INTRODUCTION
Welcome to Issue 9.1 of our Shipboard/Offshore catalogue.
Triangle has been manufacturing and supplying specialized cables to the marine industry for over 30 years.
Our aim has always been to design and manufacture the most innovative cables possible, and supply them in the
most customer focused manner possible.
As a privately owned, family enterprise, we retain old fashioned values in how we conduct business and how we
treat our customers, our suppliers and our dedicated Triangle team.
Over the years, we have expanded our manufacturing and sales facilities throughout the world. We now operate
three production plants and fifteen sales/distribution offices. (see back page for details).
We have also significantly expanded our product range and associated Certifications/Approvals. We now produce
cables that conform to AS/NZS1660, IEC60092-350, IEEE45, IEEE1580,TypeP, BS6883 and NEK606(MUD).
We have developed proprietary processes and raw materials, that enable us to produce highly flexible LSZH
cables with reduced Bending Radius. This saves installation time and reduces both space and cable usage.
We look forward to personally discussing your requirements, and providing cost-effective solutions that add value
to your business.

LSZHLSZH simply translates to Low Smoke Zero Halogen and refers to the behaviour ofchemical compounds when combusted - specifically the quantity of smoke generatedand the toxicity of the emissions.
Halogens - What are they?Halogens are a group of five elements comprising; Fluorine, Chlorine, Bromine, Iodineand Astatine.
Halogens - and the effect of combustionIn their basic form, Halogens are very toxic, strong oxidizers and very chemicallyreactive. In the event of combustion, LSZH and non LSZH cables behave in verydifferent ways, as indicated below.

What is the difference between LSZH and non LSZHcables?
LSZH cables have a zero Halogen content, emit no toxic fumes, generate very little smoke and produce no corrosive or causticacids. LSZH cables are therefore ideally suited for all marineapplications where personnel safety and protection of valuableequipment are of paramount importance.
Non LSZH cables, or Halogenated Cables, are typicallymanufactured from thermoplastic compounds, such as PVC. Oncombustion, these compounds generate highly toxic fumes thatcause severe irritation to the eyes, nose, mouth, throat andlungs. Increased concentrations are considered fatal to humans.
They also generate large volumes of dense black smoke thatblocks visibility and severely disrupts evacuation procedures. Thesmoke and fumes can also lead to suffocation from smokeinhalation. A one metre length of burning cable that contains

Triangle LSFLEX® - Insulation & Jacket Materials comply to the following standards:
Fine Copper Stranding - Triangle uses very fine 0.3mmcopper wire for all conductors, in accordance with IEC60228 Class 5&6 and AS/NZS 1125.
Round Concentric Cores - Triangle exclusively manufactures round cores throughout its entire size range, and does not use sectorial conductors.
Lightweight - Triangle has developed specific productranges that have reduced weight.
Small OD - Triangle has developed specific product rangesthat have reduced OD's.
Flexible Construction - Triangle uses a combination offine conductors, special compounds and manufacturingprocess to produce a very flexible cable.
Metre marking - All Triangle cables are metre-marked asstandard, with a descending number (feet marking alsoavailable).
Product marking - Triangle offers personalized text mes-sages printed onto the cable at regular intervals, even forshort lengths.
Make to order facility - Triangle can manufacture cablesexactly to customer specifications.

Significantly increased flexibility has numerous practical benefits, including reduced installation time and easiercable handing. These benefits translate directly intoreduced installation time and cost.
Standard lugs, terminals and connectors can be used, saving installation time, inventory and cost - also providingbetter electrical contact with standard round lugs.
Especially relevant to high speed craft, sailing yachts etc.where weight saving translates into improved performanceand overall cost benefits. Makes handling much easierduring installation.
Additional cables can be installed within a specified cabletray, ladder or conduit. A smaller bending radius benefitstight configurations, and smaller glands reduce cost.
Reduced installation time and cost, improved bendingradius and safer cable handling (especially larger sizes).
Assists the installation process and enables accurate stockmanagement.
Project Reference Codes, Company Name, Part Numbers,Quality Data, Marketing Information etc. can all be clearlymarked.
No need for the user to compromise or accept an alterna-tive cable. Customers receive exactly what they need.

LUGGING RECOMMENDATION
Cut at required length and remove.
Cut section and slide towards the end ofthe conductor* (allow 5mm clearance)
Place standard lug at the end of conductor
Gently push both lug and section until theymeet the jacket. Cut and remove section.
Compress lug using hexagonal die and
hydraulic crimper
*Stripping at 25mm maximum lengths is recommended. For longerlengths cutting and stripping in 25mm sections is advised.

INSTALLATION RECOMMENDATION
CORRECTION FACTORS FOR CABLE CURRENT RATING
Bunching of cable
Where more than six cables are bunched together and
operating at their maximum capacity, a correction factor of 0.85
should be applied (assuming insufficient free air circulation).
Single core cables are exempted from this requirement
Ambient temperature
The maximum current ratings in this catalogue are based on an
ambient temperature of 45°C. For other ambient temperatures,
the correction factors shown below should be applied.
* Shorepower cable only
INSTALLATION
Cable runs should be fixed in straight lines as far as
practicable. The minimum bending radius for cable should be
selected in accordance with the table below.
The installation of cables across expansion joints in any
structure should be avoided. Where this is not feasible,
a loop of cable sufficient to accommodate the expansion of
the joint should be provided. The internal radius of the loop is
to be at least 12 times the overall diameter of the cable.
Cables should be installed away from heat sources as far as
practicable. If this cannot be avoided and there is possibility
of damage to the cable, then suitable shields, insulation or
other protective measures should be installed.
Cables are not to be coated or painted with materials
which may adversely affect their jacket or fire performance.
Cables should be installed away from sources of mechanical
damage, as far as is practicable. If this cannot be avoided the
cables should be protected with suitable metallic casing.
VOLTAGE DROP
When selecting cable size, consideration must be given tovoltage drop. Refer to formula and table below:
Vd = L x I mV/Am1000
Where: Vd = voltage drop in volts
L = route length of cable in meters
I = current to be carried in amps
mV/Am = millivolts per ampere metre value
(the drop in voltage shall not exceed 5% of supply voltage)
CONDUCTOR SIZE - SHORT CIRCUIT RATING
The short circuit current ratings in this catalogue are based ona one second duration. To calculate the maximum permissibleshort circuit ratings, the following formula should be applied.
C x 146
t
C = cross section area of conductor in mm2
t = short circuit time in seconds
MAXIMUM INSTALLATION TENSION
To calculate the maximum allowable tension of cables duringinstallation the following formula should be applied:
50 x C x Nc
C = cross section area of conductor in mm2
Nc = total number of cores
Maximum tension must not exceed 20,000N (kg = N/9.81)

SECURING OF CABLES
Cables should be effectively supported and secured
using flame retardant clips, saddles or straps. Special
care should be taken to avoid any damage caused by
excessive tensioning during installation.
The distance between fixing points should be
selected according to cable type and probability of
vibration, but should not exceed 450mm.
Where cables are installed below cable trays, ladder
or supports, the fixing distance for securing the cable
should be in accordance with the table below.
