The paper s an d discussion s i n thi s publicatio n o n Triaxia l Testin g ofSoils and Bituminou s Mixtures were presented at tw o nationa l meetings ofthe American Society for Testing Materials. Three of the papers dealing withbituminous mixture s were presented a t a sessio n o f the Firs t Pacifi c AreaNational Meeting held in San Francisco, Calif., October 10-14,1949, presidedover by H. E. Davis of the University of California. This session on bitumi-nous pavin g mixtures was developed fo r th e Technica l Progra m Commit -tee o f the Genera l Committee on Arrangements.
The remainder of papers, with the exception of one, were presented at th eTenth an d Elevent h Session s o f th e Fifty-thir d Annua l Meeting o f th eSociety held in Atlantic City, N. The tw osessions were presided over by W . G . Holtz, U. S . Bureau of Reclamationand W. S. Housel, University of Michigan, respectively .
One additional paper wit h discussion has been made a part o f th e pub -lication as rounding out th e discussion on triaxial testing , namely , a pape rby W. S.
