The Elias String Quartet (BBT Award 2010), soprano Anna Lucia Richter (BBT Award 2016) and pianist Zoltan Fejérvári (BBT Fellowship 2016) played music that would have been especially dear to Franco’s heart in his hometown of Perugia in Italy. The recital programme included Mendelssohn’s String Quartet No 1 in A minor Op 13, Schubert Lieder and Schumann’s Piano Quintet in E flat Op 44. Read our blog about the Perugia concert here >> BBT COMMUNITIES Launching a brand new initiative BBT founder, Ilaria Borletti Buitoni, who has been actively involved in the charitable sector her whole life, announced a new venture, BBT Communities , following the concert in Perugia (see above): “Music brings great joy in our lives and I believe it can also be a force in helping social cohesion in disadvantaged societies where there is deeplyrooted discrimination and suffering, especially among underprivileged young people.” The launch of BBT Communities is her pledge to seek out and support organisations that make an impact on the life of a community through music and make a difference to people’s lives, whatever their age and wherever in the world they live. The first grants – up to £40,000 each – will be announced in June 2019 and every other year thereafter. BBT AUDIO CD LAUNCHES CALIDORE STRING QUARTET (BBT Fellowship 2016) RESILIENCE  Prokofiev, Janáček, Golijov and Mendelssohn  Signum Classics SIGCD551 released October 2018 Caught up in a world of social and political division and dissonance in the wake of the 2016 US Presidential elections, members of the award winning New York based Calidore String Quartet looked to music to find resilience and respite. They chose four composers who seemed to find consolation and a cathartic path towards optimism through music. Masterworks by Prokofiev, Janáček, Golijov and Mendelssohn come together in the compelling repertoire for their debut CD, Resilience, on Signum Classics.
