Trigger DQ flags• Discussed at April Workshop on Detector Conditions for the Trigger• http://indico.cern.ch/conferenceDisplay.py?confId=44741• Talks by Alex Cerri & Michael Hauschild + subsequent discussion.• Issues:

– Should Trigger DQ flags be inclusive or exclusive of Detector Conditions?– Is it always possible to produce both inclusive and exclusive status?– Trigger recon. status (ID, Calo) treated in the same way as signatures (e,tau...)?

Consensus of discussion at workshop favoured exclusive flags (from an argument of paralleling detector DQ flags), but with proviso:

i) Not possible, in general, to provide exclusive flags from online monitoring=> Flags determined from online monitoring will be inclusiveii) Should monitor decision for “physics objects” DQ flags & possibly mirror that choice

for trigger signature status Noted that DQ from trigger is intermediate in status between a “detector status”

and “physics objects” status. Note: exclusive flags are arguably the hardest to set and the hardest to use for analysis• Subsequent discussion following last Trigger Open meeting favours “simplest” solution

(simplest in what way? Setting? Analysis? )

Trigger DQ Flags• Priorities:

– Clearly documented description of how each Trigger DQ flag is derived and the extent to which it is inclusive of the detector status or other triggers

– As much uniformity as possible between Trigger signature groups

ExamplesSetting:• Histogram of No. ID tracks in RoI => Inclusive of ID detector status• Efficiency of L2 c.f. Offline tracks in RoI => exclusive of ID detector status• No. Electron triggers per RoI => Inclusive of calo & ID detector status, inclusive

of ID & Calo trigger status • Efficiency of electron trigger c.f. Offline electrons => exclusive of Calo detector

status, inclusive of ID and Calo trigger status.Analysis:• Inclusive : just use electron DQ flag• Exclusive : electron : use and of ID detectors, Calo detectors, ID trigger, Calo

trigger

Simplest solution?• Inclusive : • E.g. For electron trigger: If the ID or Calo detectors are bad, or ID or Calo or

electron trigger reconstruction is bad, then electron trigger status is bad.
