Trinity C E Primary School – Our Curriculum – Year 4 The national curriculum 2014 sets out the following aims:

3.1 The national curriculum provides pupils with an introduction to the essential knowledge that they need to be educated citizens. It introduces pupils to the best that has been thought and said; and helps engender an appreciation of human creativity and achievement.

3.2 The national curriculum provides an outline of core knowledge around which teachers can develop exciting and stimulating lessons to promote the development of pupils’ knowledge, understanding and skills as part of the wider school curriculum.

The following curriculum planning document aims to give parents and carers a general overview of what teachers have planned for each year group. By using planning principles, alongside schemes and programmes and through outstanding delivery, the statutory aims of the National Curriculum are met. We also aim to embrace our school’s aims and ethos as well as our wider school curriculum beliefs.

Trinity teachers follow the ‘Wordsmith Programme’, alongside national curriculum programmes of study for the teaching of English. Read Write Inc is used to support the teaching of phonics. Maths teaching follows the programmes of study in the National Curriculum. RE teaching follows the Wolverhampton Syllabus for RE. Science, Geography, History and Art units are taught using prime learning challenges and key questions from the ‘Focus in Education’ programme. Specialist music and dance teachers follow humanities / science themes in order to teach national curriculum programmes of study. Computing teaching follows National Curriculum programmes of study. In PE, the LCP Resource File is used to support teaching and learning. MFL teaching follows the programmes of study in the National Curriculum.
