Welcome to Trinity Church
Your presence is a blessing to us and we hope that this service of worship will give you strength
for your journey.
We are an open and inclusive community and we warmly welcome people of all ages,
orientations, backgrounds and faith traditions.
An Act of Spiritual Communion
In union, O Lord, with your faithful people at every altar of your Church where the Holy
Eucharist (Holy Communion) is now being celebrated, I desire to offer to you praise and
thanksgiving. I remember your death, Lord Christ; I proclaim your resurrection; I await your
coming in glory. And since I cannot receive you today in the Sacrament of your Body and
Blood, I beseech you to come spiritually into my heart. Cleanse and strengthen me with your
Grace, Lord Jesus; and let me never be separated from you. May I live in you and you in me in
this life and in the life to come. Amen.
If you would like to have Communion in your home, please contact
the Parish Office and we will bring it to you.

Presiding Bishop’s Collect for the Season
Presider: God of all power and love, we give thanks for your unfailing presence and the
hope you provide in times of uncertainty and loss. Send your Holy Spirit to enkindle in us your
holy fire. Revive us to live as Christ’s body in the world: a people who pray, worship, learn,
break bread, share life, heal neighbors, bear good news, seek justice, rest and grow in the Spirit.
Wherever and however we gather, unite us in common prayer and send us in common mission,
that we and the whole creation might be restored and renewed, through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
Collect of the Day
Presider: The Lord be with you
People: And also with you.
Presider: Let us pray: Almighty God, you have built your Church upon the foundation of
the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief cornerstone: Grant us so to be
joined together in unity of spirit by their teaching, that we may be made a holy temple
acceptable to you; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy
Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
(Please be seated.)
The Liturgy of the Word Old Testament Genesis 22:1-14
Reader: A reading from the Book of Genesis3
God tested Abraham. He said to him, “Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” He said,
“Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and
offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains that I shall show you.” So
Abraham rose early in the morning, saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men
with him, and his son Isaac; he cut the wood for the burnt offering, and set out and went to
the place in the distance that God had shown him. On the third day Abraham looked up and
saw the place far away. Then Abraham said to his young men, “Stay here with the donkey;
the boy and I will go over there; we will worship, and then we will come back to you.”
Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering and laid it on his son Isaac, and he himself
carried the fire and the knife. So the two of them walked on together. Isaac said to his father
Abraham, “Father!” And he said, “Here I am, my son.” He said, “The fire and the wood are
here, but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?” Abraham said, “God himself will provide
the lamb for a burnt offering, my son.” So the two of them walked on together.
6
When they came to the place that God had shown him, Abraham built an altar there
and laid the wood in order. He bound his son Isaac, and laid him on the altar, on top of the
wood. Then Abraham reached out his hand and took the knife to kill his son. But the angel
of the LORD called to him from heaven, and said, “Abraham, Abraham!” And he said,
“Here I am.” He said, “Do not lay your hand on the boy or do anything to him; for now I
know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from me.”
And Abraham looked up and saw a ram, caught in a thicket by its horns. Abraham went and
took the ram and offered it up as a burnt offering instead of his son. So Abraham called that
place “The LORD will provide”; as it is said to this day, “On the mount of the LORD it shall
be provided.”
Reader: The word of the Lord.
People: Thanks be to God.
Psalm 13 “I put my trust in your mercy, O Lord” Thomas Pavlechko
Cantor: Nick Fuchs
1 How long, O Lord, will you forget me for ever?
how long will you hide your face from me?
2 How long shall I have perplexity in my mind, and grief in my heart,
day after day? How long shall my enemy triumph over me?
Antiphon
3 Look upon me and answer me, O Lord my God;
give light to my eyes, lest I sleep in death;
4 Lest my enemy say, "I have prevailed over him,"
and my foes rejoice that I have fallen.
Antiphon
5 But I put my trust in your mercy;
my heart is joyful because of your saving help.
6 I will sing to the Lord, for he has dealt with me richly;
I will praise the Name of the Lord Most High.
Antiphon

The Epistle Romans 6:12-23
Reader: A reading from Paul’s letter to the Christian Community at Rome:
Do not let sin exercise dominion in your mortal bodies, to make you obey their
passions. No longer present your members to sin as instruments of wickedness, but present
yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and present your
members to God as instruments of righteousness. For sin will have no dominion over you,
since you are not under law but under grace.
What then? Should we sin because we are not under law but under grace? By no
means! Do you not know that if you present yourselves to anyone as obedient slaves, you
are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience,
which leads to righteousness? But thanks be to God that you, having once been slaves of
sin, have become obedient from the heart to the form of teaching to which you were
entrusted, and that you, having been set free from sin, have become slaves of righteousness.
I am speaking in human terms because of your natural limitations. For just as you once
presented your members as slaves to impurity and to greater and greater iniquity, so now
present your members as slaves to righteousness for sanctification.
When you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness. So what
advantage did you then get from the things of which you now are ashamed? The end of
those things is death. But now that you have been freed from sin and enslaved to God, the
advantage you get is sanctification. The end is eternal life. For the wages of sin is death, but
the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

The Holy Gospel Matthew 10:40-42
Gospeller: The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Matthew.
People: Glory to you, Lord Christ.
Jesus said, “Whoever welcomes you welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me
welcomes the one who sent me. Whoever welcomes a prophet in the name of a prophet will
receive a prophet's reward; and whoever welcomes a righteous person in the name of a
righteous person will receive the reward of the righteous; and whoever gives even a cup of
cold water to one of these little ones in the name of a disciple -- truly I tell you, none of
these will lose their reward.”

People: Praise to you, Lord Christ.

The Sermon The Rev. Rachel Taber-Hamilton, Rector
(Please stand as able for the recitation of the Creed, and the Prayers of the People)
The Nicene Creed BCP p. 326-327
We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of
all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the
Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made,
of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our
salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin
Mary and became truly human.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the
living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the
Father, who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken
through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We
acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the
dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.
Prayers of the People
Intercessor: God who calls us to work beside you in the fields of Creation, help us to cultivate
the human heart and the world around us through the promise of your love.
(pause)
Intercessor: Creator of all, help us to embrace the blessings of your grace found in truth,
justice, and hope. I ask your prayers for the church throughout the world: for our presiding
Bishop, Michael, and our Bishop, Greg for Allen our postulant for Holy Orders, for Rachel our
clergy, for our sisters and brothers in churches everywhere, and for all who serve the Church.
(Pause)
Intercessor: Creator of all, help us to embrace the blessings of your grace found in truth,
justice, and hope. I ask your prayers for this congregation: that we embody the love and
ministry of Christ; that we grow in commitment, compassion, and courage; that we would be a
living sanctuary for all people.
(Pause)
10
Intercessor: Creator of all, help us to embrace the blessings of your grace found in truth,
justice, and hope. I ask your prayers for this nation: for prudence in our public servants; for
truth and clarity from our leadership; for civility among all people; for an appreciation of both
civil liberties and social responsibilities.
(Pause)
Intercessor: Creator of all, help us to embrace the blessings of your grace found in truth,
justice, and hope. I ask your prayers for our sisters and brothers throughout the world: where
there is violence, where there is hunger and drought, where there is pestilence, where there is
despair, where there is inequality, where there is injustice, where there is oppression of the
human spirit that longs to shine through the diversity that you have made.
(Pause)
Intercessor: Creator of all, help us to embrace the blessings of your grace found in truth,
justice, and hope. I ask your prayers for all of creation: for the land, the seas, and the sky; for
the creatures who live here; for those who truly serve as stewards of your creation.
(Pause)
Intercessor: Creator of all, help us to embrace the blessings of your grace found in truth,
justice, and hope. I ask your prayers: for those living with chronic illness; for those who have
contracted the coronavirus and those in quarantine; for those known to us who are ill or facing
challenges of body, mind or spirit, especially those we name now.
(Pause)
Intercessor: Creator of all, help us to embrace the blessings of your grace found in truth,
justice, and hope. I ask your prayers for the departed: especially those who have died in the
pandemic; and for all those known to us whom we love but see no longer, especially those we
name now.
(Pause)
Intercessor: Creator of all, help us to embrace the blessings of your grace found in truth,
justice, and hope. I ask your prayers of thanksgiving; for the verdant life on earth; for the
warming sun of a new day and the celestial spender of the cooling night sky; the blessings of
those who love us when we cannot love ourselves and the gift of the loving friendships that
sustain us in this life; for the Spirit that abides within us and inspires us to creative action; and
for the Christ that unites us one to another in God’s love; we also pray for any special joys and
blessings we name now.
(Pause)
Concluding Collect
Presider: Almighty God, to whom our needs are known before we ask: Help us to seek only
what brings us true freedom in you and release what keeps us bound and hidden; may we see
with the eyes of Christ that we may perceive and realize the selves and World that you call us to
be; grant your healing peace to troubled hearts for the sake of your Son, Christ our healer and
redeemer. Amen.
11
The Confession of Sin (All kneel or sit as able.)
Presider: Happy are those whose sins are forgiven, whose wrongs are pardoned. We pray to
you, God of all mercy.
People: We ask for your healing, merciful God: grant us the strength for true change
in mind and heart as the Living Body of your son, Jesus Christ. Some sins are plain to us,
some escape us, some we cannot face. For all these, Lord, forgive us; may we live in
freedom from all that does not serve you and all that does not honor your loving trust in
us.
Absolution
Presider: God the Creator brings you new life in Christ, forgives you and redeems you.
Believe in this forgiveness and live your life in the knowledge of God’s Love, in the
remembrance of Christ’s sacrifice, and by faith through the Holy Spirit that calls you to renewal
in the name of the One who Creates, Resurrects, and enkindles us anew for the ministry of Love
in the World. Amen.
The Peace
Presider: The peace of the Lord be always with you.
People: And also with you.

The Offertory Anthem “Rainbow in the Sky” (In the sky, as floods receded)
Rainbow in the Sky
In the sky, as floods receded, covenant sign of love made light,
Promised life for all Creation, see the rainbow shining bright.
Like the colors of the spectrum, we together all are bound:
Everyone is God’s beloved, and on each is God’s light found.
Jesus, God’s own Love Incarnate, this commandment gave anew,
“As I loved, love on another, that my light shall shine in you.”
In the Church, as in the rainbow, all our colors shine today,
Teaching all to follow Jesus, and with love, to walk the Way.
As we journey on together, we remember those we’ve lost,
Those who could not make the voyage, those whose lives have paid the cost.
Stonewall, Laramie, Orlando….change borne on a sea of tears,
Bitter struggle, bitter hatred, so much pain from so much fear.
Still, O God, your arms enfold us like a mother’s, gentle, strong,
No exceptions, no exclusions—in your love we all belong.
Yet, in every celebration, sorrow is not far away,
And the fight is far from over for too many on this day.
Through the years of loss and conflict, we’ve been called to turn our hearts,
And together, be Love’s beacon, when all other light departs.
May we be the light God made us, rays of hope in times of pain.
Peace and justice be our promise, sunlight shining through the rain.

Eucharist Prayer C
Presider: The Lord be with you.
People: And also with you.
Presider: Lift up your hearts.
People: We lift them to the Lord.
Presider: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
People: It is right to give him thanks and praise.
Presider: God of all power, Ruler of the Universe, you are worthy of glory and praise.
People: Glory to you forever and ever.
Presider: At your command, all things came to be the vast expanse of interstellar space,
galaxies, suns, the planets in their courses, and this fragile earth, our island home.
People: By your will, they were created and have their being.
Presider: From the primal elements, you brought forth the human race, and blessed us with
memory, reason, and skill. You made us the rulers of creation. But we turned
against you, and betrayed your trust; and we turned against one another.
People: Have mercy, Lord, for we are sinners in your sight.
Presider: Again and again, you called us to return. Through prophets and sages, you
revealed your righteous Law. And in the fullness of time you sent your only Son,
born of a woman, to fulfill your Law, to open for us the way of freedom and peace.
People: By his blood, he reconciled us. By his wounds, we are healed.
Presider: And therefore, we praise you, joining with the heavenly chorus, with prophets,
apostles, and martyrs, and with all those in every generation who have looked to you in hope, to
proclaim with them your glory, in their unending hymn:

(Please stand or kneel as able.
Presider: And so, Father, we who have been redeemed by him, and made a new people by water
and the Spirit, now bring before you these gifts. Sanctify them by your Holy Spirit to be the
Body and Blood of Jesus Christ our Lord.
On the night, he was betrayed he took bread, said the blessing, broke the bread, and gave
it to his friends, and said, “Take, eat: This is my Body, which is given for you. Do this for the
remembrance of me.”***
After supper, he took the cup of wine, gave thanks, and said, “Drink this, all of you: This
is my Blood of the new Covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of
sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me.” ***
Presider: Remembering now his work of redemption, and offering to you this sacrifice of
thanksgiving,
People: We celebrate his death and resurrection, as we await the day of his coming.
Presider: God of Our Holy and Righteous Ancestors, Redeemer and Mother of Israel, God
and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ: Open our eyes to see your hand at work in the world about
us. Deliver us from the presumption of coming to this Table for solace only, and not for
strength; for pardon only, and not for renewal. Let the grace of this Holy Communion make us
one body, one spirit in Christ, that we may worthily serve the world in his name.
People: Risen Lord, be known to us in the breaking of the Bread.
Presider: Accept these prayers and praises, Father, through Jesus Christ our great High
Priest, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, your Church gives honor, glory, and worship,
from generation to generation. Amen.*

The Lord's Prayer BCP 336
Presider: And now, as our Savior Christ has taught us, we are bold to say,
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your Name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial,
and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours,
now and forever.
Amen.

Though I am far from church and sacrament, I invite you into my heart, blessed Christ.
As I look to the horizon, I know the whole world to be bread lifted in your sight to be made
holy according to your will, and all the life running within it to be your blood poured out for
healing and reconciliation. You are the host at the banquet of my live, and every day you feed
me with yourself in love. Grant this prayer to be my communion with; you by intention and

Proper 8 “…that we may be made a temple acceptable to you…” When we think of temples,
we tend to think mostly of special, consecrated buildings. Perhaps we need to focus more on
the “special and consecrated”, and not be trapped in the actual building image. Why not think
outside the box, and work at seeing yourself as a very particular temple – full of thankful love
and praise for your Creator?
