T rinity Lutheran School is keeping quite busy with all of the events that are happening! Please make sure that you become a part of what we are doing in the school and in our Church. I’m excited to let you know about all of the wonderful things that are going on this month so that you

may continue to lift our ministry up in prayer and become active in what we are doing with our children. I would like to thank everyone in the congregation for participating in our Mission Buddy project for this school year. You have all been such a blessing to our children in our school. I pray that you have been blessed as well. As part of our Mission Buddy final activities, we would like for you to become aware of the following dates: March 5th is the Trinity Treasures Dinner Auction-Have you bought your tickets yet? Come out for a night of dinner to support our school. March 10th-Trinity Lutheran School EXPO-come see our students in action from 6-7:30 p.m. Grades 1-3 will entertain us with their singing. Grades 4-5 will teach us about important figures from history and today. Grades 6-8 will educate us about various states and countries.

»»»» Our basketball teams finished their sea-

sons. The varsity boys participated in the Lafayette Tournament.

¡Hola! What a blessing it is to share about Trinity’s

ministry within the Lutheran Day School! Thank you

for your continued interest, support and prayers for

our students and their families. I am fifth grade’s

Language Arts and Social Studies teacher as well as

the Physical Education teacher for first through

eighth grade. This year is my fifth year teaching at

Trinity and I am so grateful for the consistent oppor-

tunities to learn about and worship our Lord.

“We rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering

produces endurance, and endurance produces char-

acter, and character produces hope, and hope does

not put us to shame, because God's love has been

poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who

has been given to us.” Romans 5:3-5

The above verse found in Romans has become a

point of prayer, study, and practice for many of my

students both in the classroom and the gymna-

sium. I continue to learn from student’s examples as

they work each day to better themselves, their fami-

lies, and the community around

them. Scholastically, this time of year is very busy

for students.

The fifth graders at Trinity operate with a unique

schedule as they spend each morning learning with

me, and each afternoon switching from one class-

room to another, learning with three different

teachers. This schedule provides students with chal-

lenges, but also provides a chance to prepare for the

structure and rigor of middle school. In our Social

Studies class, we study the United States and their

capitols. This includes learning about Native Ameri-

can cultures, exploration of the Americas, the found-

ing of the colonies in present day America, the

American Revolutionary War, and the founding of

the United States.

Currently, we are reading the first book in The Seeds

of America Trilogy by Laurie Halse Anderson, entitled

Chains. The story follows the life of a slave girl, Isa-

bel, and her little sister Ruth, at the beginning of the

Revolutionary War. As we read about the nation’s

fight for freedom, we also come to understand Isa-

bel’s individual fight for freedom. Reading this book

has been a fantastic opportunity to learn about the

war in a unique but relevant way. Fifth grade highly

encourages you to pick up, check out, or download

Chains and the other Seeds of America books that

follow in the trilogy!

In addition to reading Chains, we have been

busy researching ‘freedom’ and significant

people in history. Each year, the SERTOMA

Club hosts a Freedom Essay Contest for 5th grade students at

schools on the near eastside of Indianapolis. Soon we will

write our final drafts for submission. The annual Wax Mu-

seum, presented by the 4th and 5th grades, is approaching

quickly. We hope you are able to attend this event during the

Trinity Lutheran School Expo on Thursday, March 10, from

6:00-7:30; you won’t want to miss it! Come learn from the

historical figures themselves; Thomas Jefferson’s life and ac-

complishments, Wilma Rudolph’s unquenchable determina-

tion, Stephen Hawking’s discoveries and trials, Ruby Bridge’s

continued work for mutual understanding of all people, Paul

Revere’s ride and many more.

In the afternoon, I teach Physical Education classes to first

through eighth grade students. Physical Education is a great

passion of mine. I feel it is crucial for student’s development;

physically, mentally, and socially. Students do not only work

on specific skills such as throwing, catching, and passing. PE

students also work on cooperating with their peers and perse-

vering through difficult tasks.

Recently I have found great joy teaching and observing stu-

dents as they learn to jump rope. Jumping rope can be a sim-

ple task for some, but for those who have never practiced, it is

quite the obstacle to overcome. I have been reminded by

these students about the importance of persevering with an

attitude of determination and joy. The first day, jumping rope

seemed like an impossible task for some, ending in

tears. However, on day two, these same students came to

class telling me they had practiced jumping rope at recess, and

boy, could I tell the difference. Students that couldn’t swing

the rope and jump in rhythm on the first day, were jumping

over the rope multiple times in a row! Through their struggle

and perseverance, these students also now carry themselves

with more confidence and hope. What wonderful example of

“God’s love being poured into our hearts through the Holy

Spirit.”

As you continue through your weeks, I hope you are also re-

minded of the wonderful opportunities to rejoice, learn, and

grow in the love so lavishly given by our Lord, no matter the

trials or suffering you face.

Our 12th annual Outrun the Sun Race Against Melanoma

will take place on June 18 at Fort Harrison State Park. The Sunset festival begins at 4 pm,

and races kick off at 7 pm.

Spring Musical at Lutheran High School

Lutheran High School’s Saints on Stage are pleased to present Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella in the Ruth Lilly Auditorium April 15–17.
