TRINITY REFORMED CHURCHTRINITY REFORMED CHURCH NOVEMBER 2016
connectionsconnections
Trinity Church - I say Thank You!
You continue to bless one another in this congregation, in our community and
around the world. Your openness to God’s leading is evident. It is clear to me
that God has blessed us as a church.
The investment of your time in volunteering for ministries that are making a
difference in our community is beautiful.
Your diligent study of scripture this year in our 365 journey has been so
exciting to see. I regularly hear “this 365 journey has been one of the most
influential experiences to my spiritual growth.”
The outpouring of your financial support has been tremendous.
Your support and participation in our new 11:10am worship service shows the
dedication you have to being a welcoming and hospitable church.
The way you welcome and embrace the little children in worship brings joy to
the heart of our Heavenly Father.
I want to encourage you to keep up the good work. Remain focused on loving
God - with all your heart, soul, mind and strength and loving your neighbor - as
yourself.
Together let’s continue to follow God and reach others with the Good News of
Jesus Christ!
Blessings,
Pastor Chris DeGraaf

Music Intern
You have undoubtedly noticed this blond haired young man
playing his heart out with the Praise Team. Dave Jansen is
currently a freshman student at Hope College. Dave calls
Jenison home and graduated from Unity Christian High
School in Hudsonville this past June. He is one of two
children, sharing life with a younger sister, Olivia who is
nine.
Music has been in Dave’s system most of his life. He
received his first guitar when he was in the fourth grade. For
the next year he taught himself, moving on to two
instructors during the next three years. During those three
years, one instructor concentrated on teaching Dave the
acoustic guitar while the other one focused on the electric
guitar. Dave found that the electric guitar was more to his liking and continued with those les-
sons for another four years.
Not only does Dave play the guitar, he also loves to sing. During his high school years he was
state ranked for three years (he sings bass) and sang in Unity’s top choir his sophomore year
through his senior year. In his senior year, Dave was a member of the Michigan All State
Honors Choir. He shared this honor with three other Unity Christian students. Today Dave is
singing tenor with the Trinity Choir.
Dave was drawn to Hope College because of its proximity to home, the “killer” music
program, the wonderful campus design and the music scholarships he received. Originally,
Dave thought a music education degree was in his future. Today, he is leaning toward a
Recording Arts Major with an emphasis in live music. A minor in music ministry is also a
possibility. This is a combined program with the Hope College Religion Department and
Western Theological Seminary. Dave connected with Trinity when he met Pastor Phil at a
Church Fair on Hope’s campus. Dave’s work at Trinity is worship ministry focused. He will be
involved with worship service development, play and sing with the Praise Team and sing with
the choir. One of Dave’s goals is to strengthen his planning and leadership skills.
For relaxation Dave plays and performs with a Christian Band named Reigning Grace.
Welcome Dave!!

Come join us for worship on Thanksgiving Day, November 24 at 9:30am as we give thanks to God for all His blessings. A special offering will be received to support Hurricane Matthew Relief. Please join with other RCA and CRC congregations as together we partner with World Renew Disaster Response Services and World Vision to be the hands and feet of Jesus in a part of the world that needs to feel his love now more than ever. If you use offering envelopes, please use the “Special Thanksgiving Offering” envelope.
“PREPARE YE” We hear the word “preparation” all the time. We prepare for a test,
retirement and every other type of event we can think of!! Especially during this time of the year, we are inundated with all kinds of
preparation needs. We make shopping lists, guest lists and a list for our lists!! Unfortunately, we often forget the most important preparation of all - preparing to celebrate the birth of Christ.
At 6 pm Sunday, November 20, we will gather as a congregation to intentionally prepare for celebrating Christ coming to earth as a human being. The evening will
include scripture and music that points us to Christmas. There will also be hands on activities for all ages. Group leaders will direct participants in making ornaments,
baking cookies and putting up trees around the sanctuary. Another group will pray for the evening activities and that our hearts will be open to the light of Christmas again. Bring family and friends for Hanging of the Greens - an event for all ages.
CHRISTMAS EVE WORSHIP
On Saturday, December 24 at 4pm we will gather to
“Offer our Gifts” to the Savior through worship.
Please sign up if you are willing to present a reading, special music, art, drama or some other worship element.
Our worship service will be at 4:00pm that afternoon. Mark your calendars now and plan to join us.
