Back at the end of August, I celebrated my 60th birthday. The Big 6-0! Someone was even kind enough, if that’s the way to put it, to erect a sign in the front yard of the

parsonage that said, “Honk! Jeff’s 60.” I never found out who put the sign in the yard. But thanks for the thought whoever did! My point is to say, “Look at how time flies!” It seems just like yesterday that I was “wet behind the ears” in ministry in Coudersport, PA. Now here 30 years later we’re in Ohio in Mount Gilead. Where does the time go? It’s humbling to think of how the years go by and to what end? Good times and bad times. Mountain tops and valleys. Above all and through it all I have much to be thankful for: a great wife, three sons and one granddaughter, a loving and faithful congregation. I’m reminded of Psalm 90 in which Moses talks about the greatness of God and the “humbleness” of human life. The humbling thing is to think that

life comes, and life goes. In the end, our lives all come to an end. It’s

depressing and yet it’s not because

of the hope we have in Christ. One of my favorite verses is 1 John 5:13, “These things have I written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may KNOW that you have eternal life.” There are so many things in this world that we can’t know for sure like what tomorrow may hold (in this life). And yet we can be certain that when it is all said and done, there will be Jesus, welcoming us into His presence.

God bless, Pastor Jeff

SEPTEMBER COMMITTEE MEETINGS…

Missions Committee: Tuesday, 10/8, 7:00 pm Staff Parish with D.S.: Saturday, 10/12, 10:00 am (at Trinity UMC)

TUESDAY BIBLE STUDY AT SAMES & COOK 3:00-4:00 pm

The Sames and Cook Bible Study will be studying Rich in Things that Count the Most.

While we may or may not be wealthy when it comes to material things, James W. Moore says, every one of us can be rich in the things that count the most. True happiness, fulfillment, and wealth come from knowing that God is with us, and from being grateful for all of the blessings God has given us. Through Scripture and compelling stories of faith, the author invites us in this book to explore the real riches in our lives, those things that will last and endure, that won’t rust or corrode or become boring or go out of style.”

Oct 1: Rich in Mind, Body and Spirit (Luke 2:52)

Oct 8: Rich in the Risen Christ (John 21:15-19)

Oct 15: Rich in Easter Faith (John 20:11-18)

Oct 22: Rich in Commitment to Christ (Mark 10:46-

52)

Oct 29: Introduction & Baby Pictures (Luke 2:22-38)

Trunk or Treat - Trinity UMC will be holding a Trunk or Treat in our church parking lot from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, 10/26. If you would like to participate by being one of the “trunks” giving

out candy to the children, please let the church office know. It would be nice to have at least 8 vehicles in our parking lot. Please feel free to decorate the trunk or back of your vehicle. There are other ways you can help. You can provide a game for the children to play for prizes. If you don’t have a game idea but would like to “run” a game let the church office know. Donations of prizes and candy would be greatly appreciated.

Save the date for a Christmas Family Event,

Friday, 12/6. Come and help before and after the Mount Gilead Christmas

Parade. More information will be forthcoming.
