Also, this hasthe potential for growth into more, such as our own events andgatherings, etc. It’s our own so itcan be as much or little as wewant to make of it. There arealready a few on my list, and areadded only by request. To beincluded in this fun (I hope!)venture, please email [email protected] Thank youeveryone!!!

Minnesota Triumphs Meeting MinutesAugust 10th 2017

August meeting night was cool like July’s,but with showers around town, that kept anumber of cars sitting in their warm anddry garages. The showers missed themeeting location, but 71 degrees embracedthe 7 TR’s that did hit the road and attendthe meeting. Two new members joined us for themeeting;Hudson Nichols, proud owner of a 1974.5 TR6Charles Lederer, owning a special 1959 TR3

Club officers shared their respectiveinformation, which is shared with us in theclub newsletter.

The scheduled August 19th tech sessionthat was reported at the meeting tookplace just prior to the writing if thisdocument.I heard the session was greeted withabundant sunshine, and eager clubmembers to help. New brake lines, calipers and windshield install werecompleted and success boxes on the “todo” list were all checked.Be sure to check the newsletter for acomplete listing of events. A couple ofevents I jotted down were; Sept 9 Wheels and Wings, the Sept 9Black Hills tour, and the Sept 22-24Waumandee Hill Climb.

VTR REPORT SEPTEMBER 2017

On August 8 the Neuman’s,Thompson’s and Sanderson’s metout side of Chippewa Falls,Wisconsin. From that point theNorth American tour began. Wepassed Green Bay and laterpulled into Sault Ste Marie,Ontario where we hiked andtoured the Lake Superior locksthe following day. That nightfound us not far away in SturgeonFalls, Ont as we spent so muchtime at the locks in Sault SteMarie. From there much later inthe day we found ourselves stuckin a bit of a traffic jam inMontreal. Here we toured partof Old Town, MontrealUnderground, and China town. The next day we were comingback into the US at a Vermontcrossing where Thompson’s weredetained by the US BorderPatrol. Were they stopped fordrugs, black smoking tailpipes orgin running? We will never knowas ½ hour later they were allowedto leave and on we cruised. PastLake Champagne and thrupicturesque countryside wetraveled to our next B&B at FitchHill in Vermont where we weretreated to a lovely home, roomand a delightful breakfast the nextmorning by the owners. The nextday Sanderson’s headed backnorth to visit a cousin only 4 milesfrom the Canadian border.Meanwhile Thompson’s andNeuman’s set course for NewHampshire and the WhiteMountains where they climbedMt Washington’s some 6000+feet into the sky. Later that daySanderson’s, after cousin visiting, met us with the group at a skiresort and had a great dinnercomplete with a stage show. From here we trekked to

Portland, Maine for great sightseeing, lobster rolls, lobster stewand of course whole lobsters.Next day the group separatedwith some going to upstate NewYork, Rhode Island andRockaway, NJ. The East Coasthas so much to see, but so manypeople have so many cars andsoooo much traffic. On Wednesday the 16th we finallymade our destination to PrincetonNJ and the 2017 VTRconvention. The hotel was greatand our greeting by the DelawareValley and New Jersey Triumphclubs was superb. Lots ofvendors and so much to see anddo. Side tours to numerous NewJersey, Pennsylvania and theDelaware Valley were enjoyed. Some toured the campus ofPrinceton University that wasfounded before we became anation in 1776. What history andsuch beautiful architecture of somany buildings. The museum ofart was spectacular with so manyof the great masters paintings.Just superb. On Saturday Gregannounced that the nextconvention would be hosted byMn TRs in Lacrosse, WI as therest of the group including VirginiaBisanz, who flew in for the event, passed out tourist brochures andhotel info for LaCrosse. Theevening was crowned with anaward for our 2016 newsletterT&T. Congratulations to thosewho submit fodder for publicationand particularly to Orrin McGillfor a job well done putting it alltogether!!!!Sunday Aug 20 the group was onthe road again toward a placesomewhere in the Midwest wherewe could view the eclipse of thesun. We lighted somewhere east

of Dayton, Ohio. The next dayclouds threatened that the eclipsewould be a bust, but as wetraveled through a few drips ofrain, the clouds opened and thesun appeared as we pulled into arest stop where the IllinoisTourism bureau gave us safeglasses to view the cosmicwonder of the year. We weretreated to a 94% eclipse butsurprisingly it was still quite brightalthough subdued as if moving intotwilight. A few crickets or treefrogs began to sing and a cardinalchirped as he might while takinghis last meal before dark. Wesaw no stars and the chickens didnot go to roost. Never-the-less itwas a fun experience with goodTriumph companions. One morenight was spent in a motel inDavenport, IA with the final cruiseup Route 63 and into Minnesota.Final mileage for Sanderson’s was3533 door to door, Thompson’s3421 and the Newman’s aboutthe same. Many thanks to Gregand Carol for trip preparation andpromotion of VTR 2018. It wasa great VTR made even greaterby the trek across NorthAmerica! So now is the time to prepare forVTR 2018. Make yourreservations soon as the hotel isfilling fast.It would be particularly nice tosee Mn TR folks register for theconvention rather than justshowing up taking in a freebee. You must realize that putting on ashow costs money. Please joinVTR.

Spring Driv’in in the RockiesMany of you know or have read in past news letters that for the past five Springs Orrin and Ihave taken a five day road trip to The British National Meet in Hot Springs,AR. This Spring fora number of reasons it was canceled. So longing for another Spring road trip Orrin sent on an invitation he’d received to attend the65th Annual Rallye Glenwood Springs in Colorado on June 9-11.(See Invitation).

https://mgcc.org/rallye-glenwood-springs/2017-rallye/

We had driven around the Southwestern areas of Colorado this past September with Pam &Virginia and Terry & Bernadette Mackey for 5 days and had enjoyed it very much so wedecided he and I would go and check out the Northwestern area of the Rockies. We left on Wednesday morning, June 7th and drove 473 miles to York, NE. Thursday we drove469 miles to Lakewood a western suburb of Denver at the base of the mountains.Friday a.m. we registered for $50.00 at the breakfast meet & greet and the start of the Time &Distance Rally that ended 287 miles later up in Glenwood Springs (these Colorado MG peopletake this rally seriously). We drove top down from approximately 8:30 to 5:30 with a shortlunch stop climbing up to 11,000 ft. through beautiful scenery and old mining towns, ending atour Glenwood Springs Hotel.

Saturday was another, but not competitive, drive of 136 miles around the Aspen, Leadville, andBreckenridge areas. We stopped to have BBQ for lunch in a small old mining town calledMarble Colorado. They mine marble there - not gold or silver. The mine provided the marblefor the Tomb of the Unknowns and the Lincoln memorial.

Saturday night was a time to socialize at a cocktail and Hors d’Oeurves party hosted byHagerty Insurance back at our Glenwood Springs Hotel. The people were enjoyable and thescenery beautiful.

Sunday was the Car Show, Funkhana, and Awards Presentation, but Orrin and I had to leaveat 5:45 A.M. to drive back down the mountain to Denver and back to York. 625 miles.

Monday A.M. we left York and chose a different route home. 490 miles.

The weather, which had been beautiful the entire trip, took a turn on us in Worthington. We hadto drive home the last 190 miles in a steady hard rain.

A nice spring outing of 2,480 miles to start the driving season.(See Pictures by Joe Bisanz on following pages)
