Co-Founders Robin & Grahame Byrnes were
lucky to return last October after a gas-tank
ruptured outside their RN (Jhansi) Children's
Home, causing evacuations for hours (Fig.
1). Bruce Wellman, from Canada (Fig. 2),
conducted First Aid courses for RN (Kenya)
Staff. A First Aid Kit was also donated from
Canada. Robin and Salvation Army repre-
sentative Terri Muendel attended an inspira-
tional National Press Club address on
“Vulnerable Children and Adoption” by
Australian actress Deborra-Lee Furness
(Fig. 3). World AIDS Day, a global health day
commemorated annually on December 1st,
helps people join the fight against HIV/AIDS,
shows support for its afflicted, remembers
those whose lives have been lost and
develops awareness. Visiting Australian Sam
Epstein helped to organise kids' Aids Day
activities in Jhansi and distributed hygiene
packs (Fig. 4). World Aids Day was com-
memorated with awareness presentations
from YWAM (Youth With A Mission). The
children made posters afterward (Fig. 5). In
RN (Bungoma) a Volley Ball match was held,
and participants donated coins to AIDS
research. Before Robin & Grahame visited
India last year, Hunter Christian Church
provided a lovely donation so children could
receive their first-ever school stationery (Fig.
6). Sewing training is starting for young
single mums to be apprenticed in Bungoma
sewing shops (Fig. 7). We have a call for
supporters who can contribute to the
apprenticeship costs and, if successful, we
will help these girls to start a new job, or their
own business, by providing their own sewing
machine and gear. We also provide micro-
loans to individuals such as farmers for small
businesses as funds are available. Nothing
could happen without our volunteers and
monthly sponsors, and we thank you all.
