Dear Readers,

The 11th

month of the Financial Year i.e. February, puts a lot of pressure on the capex jobs that are

scheduled to be completed and capitalized before the end of the financial year. Reviews and re-planning to

complete the capex jobs take priority over other routines. Moreover, the company will be assessed this year

for Business Excellence and this time the format of the assessment seems to be different and deep dive

assessments are planned. The concerned departments are expected to review their TBEM assessment

preparedness from the above perspective.

We have been discussing about ethics in business in which I had shared some thoughts on the value of

TRUST. I wish to share some more insights regarding this value in light of the Tata Group’s continuous

efforts in reinforcing this value in its drive towards becoming a leader in Management of Business Ethics.

The six rules of CREDIBILITY will guide us towards being trustworthy and genuine.

1. Where trust is truly important there are no little lies. Any and every falsehood demonstrates a

willingness to deceive and inspires the doubt: "What else have you lied to me about?" Just like

tiny germs can cause deadly infections, little lies can kill credibility.

2. Excuses and justifications for lying are much more persuasive to the liar than the person lied to.

3. Every undiscovered lie is like a hidden land mine ready to explode a reputation or destroy

credibility.

4. Honesty and forthrightness don't always pay, but dishonesty and concealment always cost.

Nothing good may come of admitting wrongdoing, but it gets a lot worse when you don't.

5. Lies breed like rabbits. Once you start lying, it takes an ever-growing bodyguard of new lies to

protect the old ones.

6. You can't lie to a liar or cheat a cheater without becoming a liar or cheater. If you "fight fire with

fire," all you'll get in the end are the ashes of your own reputation.

Plant Performance Highlights

Safety

1. CSC meeting was conducted for the February month 2014 2. 42 Near Miss - Investigations done and recommendations derived. Out of 42 recommendations- 25

Recommendations closed and 17 recommendations pending for closure. 03 injuries (2-FAC & 1- MTC) were reported

3. Various special safety trainings like safety standards and procedures training, first aid and fire fighting

training, DMP awareness, defensive driving training, LOTO, Mobile Crane Safety Procedure, working at heights trainings, E-PTW training were also conducted during the month. Apart from “Basic safety & IMS awareness training”, working at height trainings and Safety induction

trainings for contractors for “Unit 6 outage & Unit 8 restoration” were also conducted. During the

month 125 mandays achieved from own employees training. Total number of own employees trained for

the month is 252. During the month 317 mandays achieved from contractors training. Total number of

contract employees trained for the month is 635.

4. SIAT (safety intervention audit training): 4 SIAT audits were conducted. Unsafe acts and unsafe conditions were captured during the audit and most were corrected at the site itself and for few observations

recommendations were given to corresponding departments for actions. 5. Safety Apex committee meeting was conducted for the month.

6. For the 43rd National safety day/ week celebrations , various competitions like Safety poster competition, safety slogan competition, essay competition, first aid and health

competition, PPE competition, spot the hazard competition, CFSA competition, housekeeping

competition were conducted for the Own employees & their dependants and contractor employees.

7. Safety trainings for Unit 6 outage & Unit 8 restoration :

Basic safety trainings were conducted for workers. Totally 19 trainings were conducted. 495 freshers were

trained for the month.

Safety observations were being carried out by SAFETY DEPARTMENT on all days. Unsafe acts and unsafe

conditions were corrected at the sites then and there. Reports were made on safe and unsafe observations

and were shared.

FLOWER SHOW – TATA POWER ALL THE WAY

Tata Power wins 65 prizes in Friends of The Trees Flower Show 2013-14. Tata Power won the S K Patil trophy ,

for overall supremacy in Roses and also the Queen of the Rose show, the second most coveted award in

a Rose competition for its rose cultivar, Peter Frankenfeld from its newly developed Trombay Rose Gardens

in the 53rd Friends of the Trees Flower Show 2014 at VJTI, Matunga conducted by the National Society for the

Friends of the Trees on the 22nd and 23rd February 2014.

Tata Power won 30 prizes, 11 first, 16 second and 3 third for its display of H.T, Floribunda and Miniature rose

exhibits.

In flowering and foliage plants Tata Power won 35 prizes (19 FIRST,10 SECOND and 6 Third ) for its display of

flowering and foliage plants and seasonals namely Bougainvilleas, Dahlias, Ixoras, Crotons, Marantas, Begonias

,Petunias, Sunflower , etc

Security

• 05 Feb 2014 – Monthly Security Officers Meet held at Security Conference Room duly presided over by Col. P B Dalvi (Retd).

• 08 Feb 2014 - Managing Director Mr. Anil Sardana visited the plant to oversee the U # 8 restoration

progress and ongoing U # 6 outage. Necessary security arrangements were provided for the said visit.

• 10 Feb 2014 - ISPS Code compliance training for security personnel deployed at Coal Jetty carried out by PFSO/Dy PFSO on Security aspects.

• 20 Feb 2014 - ED (O) & Chief Corp Security & Vigilance interaction with all Security Officers through Video Conferencing was held on various security aspects duly attended by Trombay Security Officers. .

• 22 Feb 2014 - Managing Director Mr. Anil Sardana visited the plant to oversee the U # 8 restoration

progress and ongoing U # 6 outage. Necessary security arrangements were provided for the said visit.

• 24 Feb 2014 – His Excellency Mr. PIUS DUNAISKI, High Commissioner of Namibia visited the plant.

Necessary security, traffic control and escort provided during the visit.

• 24 Feb 2014 - CFT for taking review of MO Security for – FY13 -14 and finalization of security agencies for FY 14-15 was held at Conference Hall No. 1, Trombay duly attended by Security Officers from MO Area.

• 25 Feb 2014 - Disaster Management Plan preparedness Mock drill was conducted. Evacuation of all

the personnel of plant and accounting of personnel were carried out at respective Safe Assembly area by Security. Necessary traffic regulation/Security/QRT arrangements were made for emergency vehicles,

Incident Site & Safe Assembly Zones.

• 26 Feb 2014 – On Job Training session for personnel of Maharashtra Guard Board was conducted by shift security officers. The following points were covered.

(a) Discipline (b) Procedure for Handing and taking over of duty.

(c) How to communicate on Walkie talkie.

(d) Leave procedure (e) Action to be taken during different kinds of alert level.

(f) Handling of Security equipments

(g) 28 Feb 2014 - Quarterly Meeting of Security Officers organized by Corp Security was held at Dharavi RS. Representative of Trombay attended the VC meet.

Mr S Ramakrishnan, Executive Direcgtor-Finance was given a warm send off by the Accounts Team on his

retirement from Tata Power, at the Pool Side of Trombay Sports Complex on 28 February 2014.

Statutory Compliances

ES&A being the owner of Statutory Compliances, obtained License for Ammonia Storage from PESSO for a period

of 10 years from Feb 2014 to September 2023. Storage Licenses for Hydrogen and LPG are expected to be received

shortly, after completion of work on the sheds required, which are in progress.

VENDOR MEET

Mr K V Johnson, the Local Ethics Counsellor, addressed the vendors at the CC’s Vendors Meet organized at

Trombay Auditorium. More than 150 vendors including the vendors belonging to the SC/ST category who were

invited as part of the Affirmative Action Program of the companies, participated in the function. While addressing

the gathering, Mr Johnson emphasised the need for making Ethics a Way of Life.

ES&A at Trombay has always been on the forefront in ensuring policy implementation. Our endeavour is to meet

the performance level parameters and set new standards of performance in meeting the employee service

requirements proactively. While we ensure that rules and regulations as per policies are followed, we make a

difference when it comes to providing delight to our customers in everything we do. The benefits and facilities

available for employees are well articulated and explained so as to enjoy the full benefits by the stake holders,

mostly on a single window concept.

COMMUNITY RELATIONS

• Organised 10 visits of Mobile Medical Van to neighboring communities of Trombay. Around 710 patients

availed the medical aid and benefits. Areas covered are Mahul, Gavanpada, Prabuddha Nagar, Vashi Naka

and Jijamata Nagar.

• As a part of Women Empowerment Program, 32 Women Self Help groups are formed and 3 cases of

Domestic Violence are registered at Legal Aid Centre run by CORO, NGO with the support from Tata

Power.

• HIV/AIDS Awareness session was held at Parle Biscuits Pvt Ltd, Khopoli and road shows were conducted

at Kalamboli on 22nd February 2014. Team members: B S Mondkar, Arjinder Singh, Uday Bhide, Milind

Kale, Ankush Saindane, Vargheese Idikulla.

• Support was given to Drawing Competition on Safety, organized by Mutual Aid Response Group (MARG)

for 500 children from 9 schools in M Ward. Awareness sessions on safety arranged prior to competition by

M/s Kishor Lasalkar and Uttam Pawar. Slogan Competition for Plastic free campaign held during the

same.

“Planning for Retirement”

The session on planning for retirement was organized on 22nd to 23rd January for staff employees retiring in

the coming months. The session was inaugurated by garlanding the J N Tata bust by the employees & their

spouses. The traditional lamp was lit up by Mr. Manjrekar-Head Trombay, Mr. Surti- Head Hr WR, Mr. Ubale

president –union, Mr. Koshy zonal secretary – union & Mr. Bangera zonal secretary- union.

Mr. Surti in his speech elaborated that this type of program will be more beneficial for employees if they

attend it 5 years prior to retirement.

Mr. Manjrekar in his speech wished the employees by stating that retirement is one kind of new start of life,

which everyone should utilize for doing the things or hobbies which they have missed due to shortage of time.

Mr. Ubale thanked management for starting & including financial session in this program.

At the end of the two days session Mr. Koshy zonal secretary –Union shared his experience, How he & his

family is suffering by not having the “will” made by his father. At the end memento was distributed to each

participants.

The session on “Planning for retirement” was organized on 28th to 29th January for officers retiring in the

coming months. The session was inaugurated by garlanding the J N Tata bust by the officers & their spouses

& they lit up the traditional lamp.

Report on Samvaad Session held on 14th

February 2014

The 16th Session of “Samvaad” held in Trombay on 14th February 2014. Mr. Manjrekar interacted with 16

newly promoted employees in technical grade VIII from Trombay.

During this session of Samvaad, Mr. Manjrekar explained the sole purpose of Samvaad which is interaction

with all levels of employees, sharing of knowledge, and various way of making our plant better place to

work. During the session Mr. Manjrekar highlighted that safety is imperative & explained about PTW system,

LOTTO. He also informed that the disaster management plan is given in the departments & asked the

employees to take clarity on the same from the department Head.

After this Mr. Manjrekar asked and explained the incident happened in Unit 8. He discussed about unit 6

economical shutdown & the tariff.

A considerable amount of time was also spent on discussion about Ethics.
