WELCOME TO THE TRON SUMMER SEASONI always feel that the Tron distinguishes itself from every other theatresimply by the diverse range of shows it presents. We are ever-mindfulof the very eclectic tastes amongst Glasgow theatre-goers and try torespond accordingly. This summer programme certainly exemplifiesthat diversity.

On the one hand we have a cutting edge and very provocative seriesof new work and debate in our Mayfesto programme, as well as playsby the heavyweight of contemporary English dramatists Howard Barker.At the other end of the spectrum we present Hardeep SinghKohli’s Indian Takeaway together with, on a slightly more bizarreculinary note, Tron Theatre Company’s own summer delight, CannibalWomen Of Mars, which is a mad intergalactic rock’n’roll romp withgreat songs by Belle and Sebastian’s Mick Cooke (no pun intended).

Other visiting theatre company highlights include Some OtherMother, which will be staged during a very busy Refugee Week; andthe return of the celebrated Irish company Blue Raincoat with the final(and best) part of their Flann O’Brien trilogy, The Poor Mouth.

In terms of work by and for young people, Tron Skillshops re-stage oneof their favourite pieces from the past ten years, Multiplex; we onceagain play host to the Merchant City Festival with a programme ofwork for family audiences (as well as a series of indoor performancesas part of Surge); and Scottish Youth Theatre round off the season withtheir production of a modern Scottish classic, Mary Queen of ScotsGot Her Head Chopped Off.

Bandwagon is the story of jumping on boardwithout knowing why. It’s the story of mass hysteria,political fads and the compulsion to join in regardless.It’s the story of hopping on, falling off and learningwho you are in the process.

Red Fish is a passionate cry for justice. Twoyoung people are caught up in the madness ofan industrial Klondike in the north Highlandcoastal town of Bunillidh. Fortunes are madeand lost exploiting one of nature’s last naturalcommodities – fish.

But these are mysterious red fish. No-one knowswhere they came from but with them hascome cash, heroin, drink, violence and tragedy.

Peggy and Calum try to live, to love, in a worldwhere to survive is to succeed.

Inthis time we have produced 35 shows atthe Tron, watched by some 11,858 friends,family members and people from the artscommunity, as well as touring to the RoyalLyceum, Edinburgh, the Byre, St Andrewsand The National Theatre in London.

To celebrate this milestone birthday, wehave been re-staging some of our favouritepieces from the past ten years. Last seasonsaw re-productions of The Woolgatherersand Project Branded from our P4-7 andS1/S2 groups and this season is the turn ofour S3-S6 group with Multiplex.

In the autumn we plan to launch an onlineresource 10 plays for 10 years as ourway of sharing with schools, drama andcommunity groups some of the best workwe have made since our inception. Thisfree resource will include workshop plans,scripts and sound designs, and give groupsthe opportunity to restage or make theirown new versions of Tron Skillshops’ work.

SINCE IT WAS FIRST ESTABLISHED IN 2003, TRON PARTICIPATION – THE EDUCATION + OUTREACH STRAND OF OUR ACTIVITIES, HAS WORKEDWITH OVER 47,000 YOUNG PEOPLE AND ADULTS AND, FOR MANY, GIVEN THEM THEIR FIRST INTRODUCTION TO CULTURAL LEARNING. ANDREW McKIE IS ONE OF THOSE YOUNG PEOPLE:

My experience of the education programmeat the Tron Theatre has been nothing shortof life-changing. Before January of last year,I had barely set foot inside a theatre, letalone stood upon a stage. But now, less than18 months later, I am a member of twodifferent acting and performance companieswithin the Tron; have starred in severalproductions; have collaborated in writingvarious pieces of theatrical work and been

given the opportunity to learn about the artof theatre-making. PHILIP REEVESPhilip Reeves' printmaking displays a modernexpressive abstraction, which is confidentlyconceived by experimentation with the process ofintaglio printmaking.

The godfather of Scottish printmaking, Philip Reeveswas integral in establishing Scotland's vibrantprintmaking scene, helping to found both Edinburghand Glasgow Print Studios as well as the GlasgowSchool of Art printmaking department.

Reeves was born and studied in Cheltenham thenat the Royal College of Art in London. From 1954the artist lectured at Glasgow School of Art beforebeing appointed Head of Printmaking at the Schoolin 1970. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society ofPainter-Etchers and a Member of the Society ofScottish Artists.
