COMMANDING OFFICER
Congratulations Lieutenants :
Welcome to the Officer Corps. You have proud traditions and esteemed heritages to uphold. From our past I borrow the phrase "we came, we saw, and we conquered," indeed no words for a defeatist. May these words and your training guide you. Further let them exemplify your ability.
As an Officer Candidate you have built a foundation. Continue to build this foundation until you have attained perfection.
Ahead of you lies the task of leading a platoon; lead and guide your men with the utmost proficiency you can master. Their trust will be in you-always be deserving of that trust. Good Luck and God Speed.
DoN E. SHARP, 1st Lt., Infantry Commanding
Good Luck!

Always remember that the art of influencing and directing men in such a way as to obtain their obedience, confidence, respect and loyal cooperation in order to accomplish the mission is the fundamental goal of an infantry officer. Remember also that "Victory will always be measured by the foot and that will be the foot of an infantry man." The American soldier is the finest in the world. Practice the art, train him well and he will not let you down. Congratulations, gentlemen, and welcome to the Officer Corps.

I am sure that the date of 12 March 1957 will be long remembered by you all for it was on this date that you began your military careers anew, as an officer in the United States army. This honor has not been easily won and you have a difficult but rewarding task .ahead .. However, to assist you is the experlience, knowledge and determination gained from OCS. The application of this will not be a difficult one if you remember the importance, responsibility and need for good officers today. Be dependable and conscientious in the performance of duty. I am confident that you will meet the challenge of leadership posed by today's army and that, in return, you will reap the rewards of your harvest.

Oftimes, people are prone to concentrate on the comfort, pleasures, and luxuries offered in our way of life. The rendering of service to
the Nation is no imposition upon the individual . Regardless of the nature of any future war or what may occur during its' early phases, the major burden of combat will fall on the ground troops of the Army. As long as man lives on the land and depends on the land for his sustenance, the ultimate decision will be obtained by soldiers on the ground. It is men who win wars-not weapons.
