From the Presiden tWOW, I can’t believe it’s already August and almost the beginning of a new League year! Where has the time gone?! It has been a very busy Summer for the League Leadership Team. The Board Retreat was held on July 28th at the Gaido Bay House in Galveston. Roughly 30 VPs, Chairs, and Co-Chairs attended this training and team building ses-sion. For first time chairmen, it’s a great introduction to their lead-ership role. For the seasoned chairman, it’s a great refresher course. Special thanks to Jocelyn Sullivan, Amy Lilly, and Kristen Lepo for providing training pertaining to their Councils, as well as Stevy Cur-bow, Liz Rogers, and Yvette Schulz for educating chairmen about the Communications Council.

The Membership Development team held two very successful in-formation sessions for prospective members in June and July. I was thrilled to see so many fabulous ladies interested in giving back to our community through the Junior League. Angie Brown, Stephanie Sta-thakos, and Anna Andrews have wonderful training meetings planned, beginning with the Provisional Orientation on August 14th.

Catherine Griffin and the Arrangements Committee have organized a fabulous Back to the League event. Please join us at the Galveston Country Club on Monday, August 20th, with a social beginning at 6pm, as we kick off an-other exciting League year!

Holly Pelletier and the Fundraising Council have been hard at work laying the foundation for a record breaking year! Amy Brown and the Cookbook Committee have been working around the clock, establishing new wholesale accounts, coming up with creative ways to target markets outside of Galveston County, and creating relationships with other Leagues for swap books. Plans are underway for this year’s Holiday Charity Ball, Escape to Casablanca! Ronnie Rapp and her committee have a few surprises in store, and it’s sure not to disappoint!

Thanks to all that have dedicated time this Summer to continue to Make a Difference in our community.

Enjoy the rest of the Summer, and I’ll see you all at Back to the League!

Pack your bags and get away for the adventure of a lifetime! The Holiday Ball Committee has been working all summer to make this flagship fundraiser the most amazing experience of the holiday season. Join us for a night

filled with mystery, romance, and intrigue at the historic Tremont House with entertainment by the Mambo Jazz Kings! To help you truly “Escape to Casablanca,” stay over at the Tremont House by calling 409-763-0300 to book

your Saturday night hotel room reservations for $159. Be sure to reference the Junior League of Galveston County room block. There are also options to book a suite ($300) by calling Christina at 409-515-2127.

The Fundraising Committee has also been hard at work collecting items for the silent auction and preparing sponsor packets. Kathy Glass will be this year’s Sponsor Party chair, and we couldn’t be more thrilled! On

November 15, Moody Gardens’ Garden Cay and Billiards Room will be transformed into a scene from the movie Casablanca. “This is the beginning of a beautiful friendship,” a famous quote from the movie, will be the evening’s

underlying theme, serving as a reminder of how appreciative we are of our sponsors.

We would like to send a shout out and HUGE thank you to Coleena Jackson and her graphic design students at College of the Mainland! Each student created a unique poster representing the Casablanca theme. Our

committee was overwhelmed with the beauty, creativity, and professionalism in each project. We chose a few designs which will be used in our advertising and promotional fliers/mailings. THANK YOU, Coleena!!

Cheers to an incredible year in the JLGC!

We are looking for you! We need all island girls between 5th and 9th grade to spend the year learning volunteering skills and

then putting them to practice monthly. Junior Junior League will be hosting their first ISLAND GIRLS informational meeting towards the end of September at the TA Building. Please follow the Wednesday Weekly Notes for exact time and date. If you are

interested or know someone that might be, please attend our first informational meeting.

It would help the committee greatly if you send contact information of any interested girls to Trisha Leimer at

Membership voted to approve a $25 financial obligation for Boutique By The Bay at Annual Meeting in May. As Fundraising VP, I am recommending to eliminate this obligation from the Standing Rules. I will bring this for a vote to the Board of Directors at our August 14th meeting.

While planning for the upcoming League year, the Fundraising Council has found portions of the Cook-book Points section of the Standing Rules that need clarification. Per our Bylaws, the following revisions will be voted on by the Board of Directors at their August 14th meeting. If you have any questions, please contact Holly Pelletier at [email protected] or 832-865-3379.
