A CENTERING THOUGHT: “…loaded like spoons

    into the belly of Jesus

where we lay for weeks for months

in the sweat and stink of our own breathing

Jesus - why do you not protect us

chained to the heart of the Angel

where the prayers we never tell

are hot and red as our bloody ankles

    can these be men

who vomit us out from ships

called Jesus Angel Grace of God

    onto a heathen country

    Jesus

    Angel

    ever again

    can this tongue speak

    can this bone walk

    Grace of God

    can this sin live…”

    UPCOMING SUNDAY WORSHIP SCHEDULE

Services are at 9am and 11am, unless otherwise noted March 4 – Our monthly theme for March is balance. On this first Sunday of the month, we explore how the concept of balance applies to our spiritual and religious lives, with special attention to our investment of resources as stewards of the congregation. March 11 – “At the Still Point”: In the spirit of our March theme (‘Balance’), The Rev. Anthony Jenkins will lead us in a service of music, poetry, and meditation – centered in the works of T.S. Eliot.

BLACK LIVES MATTER TEAM IS OFFERING A SHOWING of I Am Not Your Negro TODAY at 1:30-3:30pm in Sanctuary B. I Am Not Your Negro envisions the book James Baldwin never finished, a radical narration about race in America, using the writer’s original words, as read by actor Samuel L. Jackson. Alongside a flood of rich archival material, the film draws upon Baldwin’s notes on the lives and assassinations of Medgar Evers, Malcolm X, and Martin Luther King Jr. to explore and bring a fresh and radical perspective to the current racial narrative in America.

  • THE FOOD INSECURITY TEAM NEEDS HELP - Every time you walk into UUCC remember that children in our neighborhood are hungry and bring food. We are particularly short on Tuna helper, tuna, large boxes of cereal, sauce for pasta, pudding, jello, and reusable (can be pre-used) grocery bags. Also, to sign up to help stock the shelves, visit https://tinyurl.com/shelf-stockers-signup. It’s not time consuming but it is very necessary work.

SOCRATES CAFÉ: “Where thoughtful folks gather to discuss the BIG questions.” – This drop-in discussion group provides a forum for people to explore philosophical questions with an open, respectful dialogue. In a supportive and confidential setting, participants discuss what's on their minds and enable each other to learn how to think, not what to think. The group generates questions to pursue with rotating, willing facilitators for each topic. In the group we will engage in a common quest to gain a better understanding of human nature. Join us next on Mon., Feb. 26th from 7-9 pm (we meet on the 2nd & 4th Monday of each month). For more information, please visit: http://philosopher.org/socrates-cafeacute.html OR contact Joy Bingham at 410-730-2820 ~ [email protected].

WHAT MOVES US: UU THEOLOGY – Tues., Feb. 27, Mar. 6, Mar. 13, Mar. 20, and Mar. 27; 7-8:30pm – This program peels back the doctrine-rich theological language that can prevent us from affirming our faith experiences with one another and in the wider world. Through shared direct experiences and reflection exercises, readings and lessons, and ethical deliberations, What Moves Us creates an adult faith journey for

Unitarian Universalists who want to preach and teach what they already experience but have not been able to articulate: the spiritual power of our faith. Workshops include the theology of Sophia Lyon Fahs, James Luther Adams, Forrest Church, William F. Schulz, and Thandeka. Facilitated by Stephanie Lyon and Lowell Sunderland. Pre-registration is required at http://tinyurl.com/UUCC-AdultREd. For more information, email [email protected].

RACIAL PROFILING IN OUR COMMUNITY – Please join us for this conversation on Wed., Feb. 28th from 6:30-8:30pm at Wilde Lake High School. This event is co-sponsored by Jack and Jill of America, Columbia Chapter and Howard County Branch of the NAACP. It is an All Ages

Event! Over the past few years, our nation has been embroiled in a difficult conversation about the history of police brutality and racial profiling. Stories of young black men shot by officers, and footage of police behavior before many of those deaths, have raised hard questions about institutional racism and misconduct within our police force. Come learn about what our county is doing to combat profiling and help our youth be advocates in our community. For additional info: [email protected] or [email protected] and check out the Facebook event: https://www.facebook.com/events/1916782421688419/ MEN'S MONTHLY BREAKFAST GROUP – Please join us on Thurs., Mar. 1st at 9am at Rudy’s Mediterranean Grill located at 7185 Columbia Gateway Dr., Columbia!
