    Welcome

The primary objective for this initial workshop is to develop and enrich the relationship between TRSM departments, student associations and Ryerson-wide resources. It will provide your group with much needed information to manage your events, integrate our brand and work cooperatively with the many players involved.

In order to bridge the gaps, an informational and resourceful program will be run by TRSM for TRSM student groups to build reputation, education and application with respect to co-curricular activities. Interrelated TRSM departments will contribute their resources to achieve the following objectives:

    • To empower each student group and ensure meaningful participation of

    students regarding on-campus events

    • Organize and effectively communicate the interconnected calendar of events ie. Info/workshop session, case competitions, industry events

    • Coordinate the efforts put forth by all active units in creating successful

processes at TRSM, while utilizing university-wide resources

    • Develop event management and communication procedures to ensure consistency and professionalism

    • To advise TRSM students on event planning, develop their own skills, and allow interested students the opportunity to engage outside organizations

    • Services Offered

Student Services in TRSM can offer support to Student Groups through group workshops, promotion of your events and connections to other Student Services units across campus. o Group workshops - In the past we have facilitated sessions on Time and Project

Management for Groups, Test Preparation and Exam Writing Techniques, Communication and Conflict Management. These topics were requested by the groups and other topics for group and team development are possible upon request. If there are programs offered through the Student Services units across campus, we can help connect your group to the appropriate staff person to arrange a session at a mutually agreed upon time.

o Promotion of your events - We are interested in assisting students to know about the groups on campus and learn how they can get involved or even attend one event if they are interested. Staff from Student Services in TRSM work with the faculty and staff in all four schools to deliver in-class programming and we meet students regularly in groups or on a one-to-one basis. If we know about what your group is doing we can help to promote your activities and refer students who may be interested in getting involved. Let us know how we can assist you. In addition, each month we create a calendar for distribution around the TRSM building. If your group wants us to include your events on the calendar be sure to get the details to us by the 20th

o Student Project Fund (P-FACS) – The committee allocates funds for various student projects that will improve student life and help develop a sense of community at Ryerson. JOR -03, 416-979-5187,

of the month to ensure we can add it for the following month.

    • Connections to other Student Services across Campus

There are many services available across campus that students in your groups may benefit by accessing over their years at Ryerson. Any student can get information and referral support by stopping into the Student Resource Centre (TRS 2-168). Knowing where to get information - when they need it - will help students in your groups. 416 979-5000., ext. 2435 [email protected]

As mentioned above, we can connect your group to services on campus to determine how these units can assist in developing your team and also explore potential partnering for future events.

    • Procedure & Protocol

o To book a staff member from Student Services it is imperative to give as much notice as possible. It would be best to have a few possible dates and times sent along with the initial request with as much information about the group (including the number of students attending) and the reason for requesting the session.

o Please note: Any requests made may not be possible to grant due to other commitments. We need at least a notice of one month but depending on the time of year, we will need as much flexibility as possible. As they say, book early to avoid disappointment!

    Biz Budz Peer Resource Group

BizBudz is a resource group available to all students throughout Ryerson

University. It is focused on, but not limited to, the students at the Ted Rogers School of Management (TRSM). We provide facilities for students to excel in both their academic and their forthcoming professional lives.

BizBudz plays a major role for prospective students by organizing and recruiting for tour and discussion activities. As such, each semester we market the event to TRSM students through various mediums. With the help of our hardworking members and volunteers, the TRSM portion of Discover Ryerson has always been and will continue to be a success.

BizBudz also believes in the benefits of a having the combination of a

physical wellbeing and mental fitness. As such, in the 2007/2008 academic year, we have successfully implemented “YGA 100”. “YGA 100” is a weekly yoga class which is open and free to all students at the TRSM.

Tutor registry is also a part of the services offered by BizBudz. We

actively facilitate Ryerson's tutor registry service, recruiting, screening, and recommending tutors to any student in need of
help. Although we do not set tutoring costs, we do encourage a reasonable rate that most tutors loosely follow to ensure their services remain competitive with others.

Networking is a major part of business culture. BizBudz encourages this

by providing students with a cost effective business card solution. The cards provide students with a medium to get noticed by the business community, especially during the annual Ryerson Business Forum.

BizBudz seeks to ensure the educational well being of Ryerson students

by providing solutions that facilitate constructive educational and professional activities. In addition to helping current students, we play a major role in Ryerson’s Tour and Discussion sessions, where prospective students have the opportunity to ask questions about, and view the campus. We help to show current and prospective students what they can gain from an education at Ryerson as well as providing assistance along the way.

    Connect IT

    Profile

    • The advancements of Information Technology (IT) in the past decade have pushed this discipline and industry into the forefront of solving increasingly complex problems. With the relationship of IT and the social fabric of society generally overlooked we are witnessing an unparalleled time of break-fix solutions and ailing innovation. Challenges faced by individuals, society and ultimately the city can no longer afford to be solved superficially.

This year's conference challenges existing debate and conversation methods by breaking the big issues into small bites. We will explore the various ways IT impacts our lives and areas of habitation. By using the city as a focal point, we will create conversations about enabling citizens in ways unique to their social, political and economic structure at both the local and global level.

    Mission/Vision

    • To provide Canadian students with unparalleled knowledge and appreciation of opportunities and challenges currently facing society and information technology. To have Connect IT foster advocacy of change and adaptability in one’s personal and professional life.

The Regional on Bay A business case competition that gathers over 1300 high school students from the York Regional who competed in business related categories such as Business Law and Ethics, Financial services, and Buying and Merchandising.

    DECA U Provincial Competition

An annual case competition where University students from across Ontario compete in various business related categories.

March 2010 (exact date still TBD)

Bay Street Simulations Bay Street Simulations consist primarily of students competing in a case competition in their respective career fields. This case competition will be formatted similar to that of a DECA Inc. case competition, in which these business simulation case studies consist of a situation that students will have to analyze and decide on a solution within a short time period. The main difference between this case competition and any other competition is that DECA case competitions are more realistic and involved quick thinking which tests both soft and hard skills. Bay Street Simulations case competition thus provides the link that brings students classroom knowledge to the real world.

    TBD International Career Development Conference

An international case competition where University students from across the world compete in various business related categories.

Thank you for your interest in the Human Resource Student Association. The

HRSA was formed 10 years ago with the goal of uniting and providing opportunities for Human Resources’ majors and minors. Today the HRSA represents over 400 HR majors and minors. As a student association we strive to facilitate the exchange of knowledge among HR students, faculty, and industry leaders. Throughout the year we host a variety of events for our students. Amongst our most successful events are; the Organizational Behaviour Case Competition, in which students from all over southern Ontario compete, and the HR Professionals Evening, which provides students with a networking opportunity in meeting seven HR and learning about the possibilities within the field of HR. The association also heads initiatives that focus on social responsibility and community outreach. We collect pop can tabs for those who are in need of wheelchairs and hold several fundraisers for various charities throughout the year. This year we are excited to be working closely with a Toronto Charity to establish a scholarship for those seeking higher education. We invite you to become either a member or supporter of the HRSA. We encourage support and participation from all Ryerson students and hope to see you at our events.

If you are interested in joining or would like to volunteer for our upcoming events, please send us an e-mail at [email protected]. You can also find us on Face book, please search HRSA and join the group.

    Information Technology Management Student Association

What is the ITMSA? The Information Technology Management Student Association (ITMSA) is the course union for the ITM program at Ryerson University. We plan academic and social events for ITM students to assist in connecting them with their peers, with Ryerson staff and faculty, and with industry professionals. The ITMSA organizes pub nights, sends students to conferences, such as the Canadian Undergraduate Technology Conference, and hosts case competitions and a year-end boatcruise party, to name a few. The ITMSA is dedicated to enriching the lives of students in the ITM Program and TRSM on the whole.

Mission/Vision As a specialized team of students dedicated to serving our Ryerson ITM student body, we also have a strong sense of pride in our urban Toronto environment and rich TRSM community. Our vision is to reflect the prestige and reputation of Toronto as Ontario’s capital in the image of Ryerson; we want to show people that Ryerson University is the heart, the brains, and the spirit of Ontario! Our mission is to 1) effectively serve our student body, 2) be a catalyst in the positive branding of Ryerson University and the ITM program, and 3) contribute to the lively spirit of the TRSM community. As a team, we strive to provide a culture that is both collaborative and fun for our executive members and the students of the Ted Rogers School of Management.

What’s New This year, we plan to capitalize on our Executives’ and student body’s technological know-how by providing useful tools and services online. Our website is constantly evolving to foster a friendlier and more accessible online community for ITM students, reducing the usage of paper in the process. Another big initiative we have is to encourage and promote more collaboration within the TRSM community through academic and social events, which, in turn, will raise school spirit on the whole and increase turnout at events for all of the TRSM.
