If you’re involved in the construction, landscaping, gardening or general maintenance industries you will no doubt have a need for a Tipper at some stage. And with seven Isuzu factory-built ‘ready-to-work’ models available there’s sure to be one that will suit you a ‘T’.

The latest Isuzu N and F Series Tippers feature a factory-built tipper body and are delivered ready-to-work, meaning there is no delay in getting bodies fitted by third-party suppliers.

The tipper range starts with the car-licensed 4.5 tonne GVM (Gross Vehicle Mass) NLR 200 and 4.5 tonne GVM NPR 200. Ideal for smaller businesses that have outgrown their existing utility vehicle, the NLR 200 and NPR 200 tippers feature an all steel tipping body (2.0 and 2.3 cubic metre capacity respectively) with drop sides and removable tailgate for easy loading.

The Isuzu Factory Tipper Range

For those requiring additional capacity there are several larger Isuzu light duty Tippers available, ranging from the 5.5 tonne GVM NLR 275 with 2.0 cubic metre body to the 6.5 tonne GVM NPR 300 (3.0 cubic metre body) and the NPR 300 Crew Cab variant with 2.8 cubic metre body.

Rounding out the N Series factory Tipper range is the NQR 450 Tipper with 8.7 tonne GVM, and a 3.6 cubic metre body.

Based on the tried and tested Isuzu medium duty FRR 500 platform, commercial operators needing even more power and capacity need look no further than the 10.4 tonne GVM FRR 500.

Featuring an auto release two-way tailgate, rope rails and shovel rack, the FRR 500 features a 3.8 cubic metre payload. The model is also available

with Isuzu’s Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) for stress-free driving.

Powering the N and F Series Tipper line-up are variants of Isuzu’s Euro V rated ADR 80/03 compliant SiTEC Series III engine, ranging from 110 kW and 375 Nm in the NLR 200 and 275; 114 kW and 419 Nm in the NPR 200; 139 kW and 510 Nm in the NPR 300 and 151 kW and 637 Nm in the FRR 500.

The SiTEC Series III engine range is the cleanest conventional diesel range ever released by Isuzu in Australia, and even goes further than local requirements by exceeding the extremely stringent European Environmentally-friendly Vehicle (EEV) measure.

Unlike other truck brands that only adhere to ADR 80/03 standards, Isuzu’s EEV compliant engines emit at least 33 percent less particulate matter (PM) and 25 percent less carbon monoxide (CO) than those that meet the minimum Euro V or ADR 80/03 requirements.

All Isuzu Tippers feature a three-year, 100,000 kilometre warranty; extended warranties and service agreements are available at additional cost.

So if you’re looking for a tough, reliable, ready-to-work package with strong environmental credentials take a look at the wide range of Isuzu factory-built Tippers at your nearest Melbourne Isuzu Dealer.

This was due to the outstanding experience Ian has had with his FTS 800 Isuzu which he purchased at the start of 2011. The new D-Max Ute was purchased at the start of this year and is used as a support vehicle to the other Isuzus.

“I wanted the best little and large trucks, and with Isuzu I’ve got them,” Ian said.

“My driller and assistant love driving the Isuzus and find them very comfortable. We’re always getting comments on how good both the units look. What I find so impressive about both the truck and the Ute is that even when fully loaded they perform brilliantly. And of course complete reliability is a given being Isuzus,” Ian went on to say.

One of many things that impressed Ian when first dealing with Patterson Cheney Isuzu was the attitude of the staff.

“I love dealing with positive people, and that’s exactly what the Patterson Cheney crew are,” Ian said. “The guys at Patterson Cheney in both the sales and service departments are great – nothing is ever too much

CUSTOMER EXPERIENCES

trouble - it’s been an absolute pleasure dealing with them with both the truck and ute purchase,” Ian added.

Ian was pleasantly surprised at how little fuss was made about the need to transfer the drilling rig from an old truck onto the new Isuzu – all achieved over the quiet Christmas period to minimise downtime.

The all wheel drive FTS is what Ian uses for his drill platform – the key component in the technical and skilled area of geotechnical drilling. Geotech is a crucial part of the preliminary works process for roadways, tunnels and bridges, providing core samples of the soil and rock deep below the surface. This crucial information is used by engineers to determine the best and most suitable construction techniques.

A motor mechanic by trade, Ian has been involved with drilling most of his life and one of his early responsibilities was as drilling operations supervisor at the Victorian Arts Centre in its construction phase.

Ian started Strata Drilling in 1988 and with a commitment to continuous improvement, industry best practice and protection of the environment

the company has gone from strength to strength. He’s gained a reputation as one of the best in his field and was President of the Victorian Branch of the Australian Drilling Industry Association for many years.

Strata has been involved with some of the largest and most technically challenging construction projects over the past 20 years including the Western Ring Road, City Link, East Link and more recently, Peninsula Link.

One of the biggest projects that Ian has been involved with was an environmental audit at Coode Island after the major fires there – this required the drilling of 600 holes over a period of eight months.

Ian is quick to acknowledge and praise his staff and in particular his driller Craig Walford, who has been with Ian since he started.

“An experienced driller is crucial in this business – it’s he who tells the engineers exactly what’s going on down below and what the issues are,” Ian said.

Ian, now semi-retired, attended the recent Patterson Cheney D-Max open day where he took a good look at the new D-Max. He’s committed to buying a new D-Max Crew Cab with a ‘tubby’ camper sometime over the next 12 months with a view to doing some travelling round Australia. That’s the plan anyway!

Owner Martin Peters, has been involved in the transport industry all his working life, originally working for his father and then starting his own company around 15 years ago.

Martin’s first truck was purchased from his father whom he credits for the inspiration to start his own business.

Martin’s involvement with the waste industry began when he commenced carting inert waste from Brooklyn to Clarinda landfill with one truck and a B-Double trailer. The day he started is forever etched in his memory – the infamous 11th September 2001.

For many years Martin was contracted to the Twigg group who started getting heavily involved in the composting and green waste sector which necessitated an increase in Martin’s truck and trailer fleet to cater to the increase in work.

In 2007 Twigg was bought out by Transpacific Industries (Transpacific) and Martin took on the work for Transpacific in the Melbourne area. In the subsequent years his business has grown steadily to the extent that he now operates

a total of fourteen trucks – nine of which are Western Stars towing predominantly ‘walking floor’ trailers.

Of his total waste transportation, 60% is green waste, the balance being transfer station waste. A percentage of the green ‘waste’ includes the delivery of recycled products such as shredded timber and mulches for garden centres, golf courses and freeway sidings.

Martin’s introduction to the Western Star product coincided with his work for Transpacific – the importer and distributor of Western Star Trucks in Australia.

“Naturally Transpacific were keen for me to experience the Western Star product and I was happy to do so. I was impressed with what I saw and purchased my first Star five years ago,” Martin said.

“All the Western Stars are day cab models, and very good for what we do. A lot of our work happens off road in muddy, wet and often challenging conditions. They’re a good sturdy truck for this type of work with excellent ground clearance and they’ve proven very durable over

the years. That’s critical in my line of work,” Martin explained.

M.R. Peters Pty Ltd’s most recent Western Star purchase was a 5864 model. One of the key attractions of this recently released model from Martin’s perspective was the factory fitted aerodynamic package, which in conjunction with the new Detroit DD15 engine, is delivering impressive fuel economy figures.

“Another benefit of the Western Star product is that they seem to hold their value very well – a crucial factor when it comes to resale time,” Martin added.

Aside from the product, Martin also praises the service he receives from the Dealer, Patterson Cheney. “I’ve purchased all my Western Stars from Patterson Cheney and had an excellent relationship with Sales Consultant James Leo throughout that time. The purchase process has always been hassle free and enjoyable and the workshop have always fixed any issues quickly, without fuss,” Martin went on to say.

Utilising GPS mapping, all customer paddocks are clearly identified so drivers can accurately locate the selected paddocks and commence spreading without farmers having to be present. Previously drivers would have to wait around for long periods if a farmer was unavailable for any reason.

The width of the spreader unit has become wider over the last few years allowing a far greater area to be covered in the same amount of time.

But one of the most important advances in efficiency and the lowering of operating costs has come from Gibson’s switch from JCB tractors to all-wheel-drive MAN trucks.

Manager Damien Gibson has taken delivery of four new MAN TGM 4x4 models over the last 12 months with four more being delivered shortly.

“With their low tare weight and high payload, excellent driver comfort and all wheel drive ability the new MANs are great,” Damien said.

“With the low tare weight we can carry a high payload, allowing us to minimise the times we have to return to load up. So it provides big gains in efficiency,” he added.

“But one of the main benefits of the MANs is the maintenance costs –with farmers applying less fertiliser and operating on thinner margins over the last few years our maintenance costs are critical – and that’s where the MANs are outstanding. Compared to the costs of operating a JCB tractor the overall maintenance costs are around half,” Damien further explained.

“The cab comfort is also impressive which is

crucial when you operate in a paddock all day – drivers love them and let’s face it, drivers are more productive when they’re comfortable,” Damien went on to say.

The family-owned business was started in 1953 by Damien Gibson’s grandfather Bill, who used to cart bags of fertiliser around local farms. Farmers were reluctant to spread the fertiliser themselves so Bill started spreading via a simple spreader mounted to the back of his flat bed truck.

It was a natural progression from there to move to bulk fertiliser and this necessitated the building of additional storage sheds – one adjacent to the local railway track.

Around twenty five years ago, Damien’s father Gavin took over from Bill at the Yarram premises in Gippsland and oversaw a period of expansion resulting in the opening of another branch at Rosedale.

Damien joined the business around six years ago and in that time the business has grown

further, with a renewed focus on a broad product offering, higher levels of customer service and an expansion of the geographic territory covered including the opening of a third depot at Trafalgar.

Today Gibson employs twenty seven people, including four sales staff trained in agronomy. The company operates a fleet of thirteen spreader trucks which predominantly service the dairy, beef and sheep industries. The main products, fertiliser and lime, are bought in bulk from Melbourne and stored at the company’s depots.

Full blending facilities at all three locations allow the company to custom mix blends to suit individual farmer’s requirements which Gavin sees as an important differentiator and another example of Gibson’s commitment to customer service.

New Isuzu D-max launch weekend a big hit!

The all-new Isuzu D-MAX builds on its reputation of reliability and economy with new levels of performance, safety and comfort across the entire range.

D-Max is now available in five specification levels and three body configurations. A new ‘Space’ cab body configuration featuring rear ‘Wing’ doors joins the exisiting single and crew cab variants.

styling Sporting all-new exterior styling, the new Isuzu D-MAX has further improved fuel efficiency and performance. Advanced refinement in the wind tunnel of Italian auto design house Pininfarina has ensured the D-MAX is the most aerodynamic yet with record low Cd (drag coefficiency) figures. This development has also realised an improvement in cabin noise levels.

Modern and sleek exterior lines complement the new bulkier and aggressive on-road stance, with the larger exterior dimensions affording a considerable increase in interior space, further raising occupant comfort levels and improving the rear seat access in crew and space cab models.

equipmentFrom the entry-level Isuzu D-MAX 4x2 SX single cab through to the top-of-the-line 4x4 LS-Terrain crew cab, the All-New D-MAX offers a generous

complement of standard equipment, including air conditioning with a fine-particle pollen filter and a new audio system with iPod® and Bluetooth® connectivity.

The new LS-Terrain boasts a touchscreen multimedia and navigation system that features 10,000 off-road destinations for the adventurous explorer. Various models in the range also see the introduction of Isuzu’s new ‘Sky Sound’ roof-mounted surround sound system.

safetyIn addition to an upgrade in the comfort stakes, the entire D-MAX range now also comes equipped with a host of added safety benefits, including 4-channel 4-sensor Anti-skid Brake System (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Traction Control System (TCS) and Brake Assist (BA), along with six (6) airbags (dual front, curtain and side). A high-strength tailor blank welded passenger safety cell also increases occupant safety.

Further enhancing driver safety is a new collapsible steering column and brake pedal, while pedestrian safety has been improved with an impact absorbing bonnet design, recessed fog lamps and shatter-resistant polycarbonate headlamp covers.

New rear LED brake lights are also standard on the Isuzu D-MAX LS models, as are projector

lens headlights, while our top-line LS-Terrain also features the added piece of mind of a reversing camera.

Performance The well proven fuel efficient 3.0 litre turbo common rail diesel engine has been further refined and now generates 130kW and a peak torque output of 380Nm at 1800rpm. The torque is delivered across a flat curve through a large part of the rev-range to aid drivability and makes for relaxed towing. Mated to a newly-developed five-speed ‘Rev-Tronic’ automatic transmission with sequential sports mode, the all-new auto box is electronically controlled by the transmission control module (TCM) and features an adaptive-learning function which constantly monitors brake and throttle applications.

This allows the transmission to automatically select the most appropriate shift points and lock-up points depending on the driver’s behaviour, the vehicle speed and the vehicle load. The auto also has ‘Hill Descent’ and ‘Hill-Ascent’ modes.

D-MAX also features a new “Terrain Command” 4WD select dial, allowing the driver to adjust between two-and four-wheel drive modes while travelling at speeds of up to 100km/h.

A new five-speed manual transmission is also available. It features a revised gear-lever pivot point, reducing gear-lever travel when changing gears giving a sportier feel.

PATTERSON CHENEY ISUZU D-MAXeVeNTs

Plenty of people attended our launch weekend. If you weren’t able to attend, all the facts and features on the entire Isuzu D-Max range are detailed below.

ChassisA newly developed ladder frame chassis in the All-New D-MAX builds on the engineering successes of the class leading platform. Dubbed the “i-GRIP” (Isuzu Gravity Response Intelligent Platform), it features a stiffer design with improved cross bracing at the rear, further improving stability while loaded or towing. It also ensures long term durability when exposed to harsh driving environments.

All-New suspensionRide and handling of the All-New Isuzu D-MAX has also been improved with a newly developed “Flex-Ride” suspension geometry. Independent double wish-bone with coil springs and gas shock absorbers guarantee superior front end grip and steering control, while the rear suspension consists of long span leaf-springs (underslung 4x2 low ride models, overslung 4x2 hi-ride and 4x4 models) resulting in excellent power down and stability under every road condition with or without loading the vehicle. Of course a smooth and comfortable ride in guaranteed at every speed level. 4x4 models have a 3.0 tonne (braked) towing capacity and a load capacity of approximately 1,000kg across the range.

So if you haven’t already, come down and take a look at the remarkable all-new Isuzu D-Max.

Isuzu service AgreementsA number of Service Agreements are available from Isuzu Australia Ltd which remove the uncertainty of the possible cost of ongoing maintenance by replacing it with a fixed* monthly fee spread over the term of the service agreement.

You can choose from a standard fixed-price* Scheduled Services Plan through to the more extensive Total Repair and

Maintenance Plan. The standard monthly fee will cover everything you would expect from your scheduled maintenance whereas the more extensive plans cover a range of possibilities including brake and clutch replacement through to a total engine overhaul.

Benefits of an Isuzu Service Agreement include: • Predictable cash flow - a Service Agreement with one monthly fee removes

fluctuating expenses that occur with normal retail servicing• Maximum uptime - a preventative maintenance regime is implemented instead of

only repairing when something is broken, thus reducing the chances of breakdown therefore optimising your vehicle’s reliability.

• Dedicated Isuzu technicians and equipment - computerised engine management and diagnostic systems operated by Isuzu-trained specialists to keep your vehicle operating at peak performance

• Genuine Isuzu parts - your truck will be serviced using genuine Isuzu parts, with a three year warranty on both parts and labour

• Nationwide support - enjoy the flexibility and convenience of using any of Isuzu’s Servicing Dealers throughout Australia

To find the right Service Agreement to suit your particular business, simply talk to your nearest Melbourne Isuzu Dealer who can provide more detailed information on the range of plans available.

With over 15 banks and finance companies offering exclusive deals to Western Star and MAN customers, you can be confident that you’ll get a finance package that’s just right for your business.

CoNTACT us

Truck FORCE NEWSOur truck customers are familiar with the Isuzu, Western Star and MAN brands. But what many people don’t realise is just how many other leading automotive brands fall under the Patterson Cheney umbrella.

In addition to the aforementioned truck brands, today you can look to Patterson Cheney for Honda, Holden, Toyota cars and recreational vehicles, Mercedes-Benz Passenger Cars and Vans, Isuzu D-MAX, as well as Honda lawn, garden and power equipment products.

And there are a couple of very good reasons why it’s worth talking to us if you’re in the market for any of the above brands.

Firstly, because our buying power is so big, we can pass the savings on to you as well as offering you a great range of competitive finance packages.

Secondly, you’ll experience the same great service that you’ve come to expect from any of our ‘other’ Dealerships – we didn’t get this big without looking after our customers, no matter if they’re buying new, used, parts, service or finance.

All our staff have an absolute commitment to customer satisfaction – they know what they’re talking about, so you can rely on their advice.

So if you’re in the market for one of the brands above, your first stop should be to talk to your existing truck sales consultant who will point you in the right direction.
