Rohman Appointed As Dean
C u rric u lu m planning is u nd erway now that the new, s e m i- autonom ous co lleg e h a s been nam ed Ju s tin M o rr ill C ollege, a f te r the au th o r of the L and - G ran t Act of 1862.
The nam e w as approved T h u rs day by the B oard of T ru s te e s . Also approved was the appointm ent of D. G ordon Rohm an as dean of the new co lleg e .
Rohm an is c u rre n tly an a s so c ia te p ro fe s s o r of E nglish , and a s s is ta n t dean fo r continuing education in MSU’s C o lleg es of' Social Science a n d A rts and L e tte r s .
T h e new co llege is designed to allow studen ts to obtain a lib e ra l education In a s m a l l co llege se tting , while re ta in in g the advantages of a la rg e u n iv e rs ity .
It w ill be e s ta b lish e d through reo rg a n iza tio n within the p re se n t u n iv e rs ity s tru c tu re and w ill be housed in one of MSU’s ex isting student living u n its .

.He g radu ated fro m S yracu se U n iv e rs ity in 1948. He spent the next seven y e a r s in new spaper w ork in U tic a , N .Y ., and then joined the public re la tio n s bureau at H am ilton C o llege in C lin ton, N .Y.
Rohm an re tu rn e d to S yracuse to do g rad u a te w ork and ea rn ed both the m a s te r ’s (1955) and do c to ra l (i960) d e g re e s .

A ccording to a "C o d e on A cadem ic F r e e d o m , ” draw n up by the A m erican A sso c ia tion of Univ e rs i ty P ro fe s s o rs , the A ssoc ia tio n of A m erican C o lleges and o th e rs , a te a c h e r is fa ir ly independent once he c lo se s h is c la s s roo m o r office doo r.
