    TEXT 3The Butterfly

A man found the cocoon of a butterfly, on day a small opening appeared. He sat and watched thebutterfly for several hours as it struggled to force its body through that little hole. Then it seemed to stopmaking a progress. It appeared as if it had gotten as far as it could and it could go no further. So the mandecided to help the butterfly, he took a pair of scissors and sniped off the remaining bit of the cocoon.

The butterfly then emerged easily. But it had a swollen body and small shriveled wings. The mancontinued to watched the butterfly because he expected that, at any moment , the wings would enlarge and

Earthquake is one of the most destroying natural disasters. Unluckily it often happens in several regions.Recently a horrible earthquake has shaken West Sumatra. It has brought great damages. Why did it occur? Doyou know how an earthquake happens?

Earthquakes are usually caused when rock underground suddenly breaks along a fault. This suddenrelease of energy causes the seismic waves. It makes the ground shake. When two blocks of rock or two platesare rubbing against each other, they stick a little. They don't just slide smoothly. The rocks are still pushingagainst each other, but not moving. After a while, the rocks break because of all the pressure that's built up.When the rocks break, the earthquake occurs.

During the earthquake and afterward, the plates or blocks of rock start moving, and they continue to
