In Honor of Pat Tillman (1976-2004)Cpl. Pat Tillman was killed in the line of duty in April of 2004 in Afghanistan. The 1997 Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Year and a three-time all-league honoree, Tillman played linebacker at ASU from 1994-97. After a successful fi ve-year NFL career with the Arizona Cardinals, Tillman and his brother, Kevin, a former ASU baseball player, enlisted in the U.S. Army and became members of the elite U.S. Rangers unit.

An Academic All-American and three-time Pac-10 All-Academic selection, Tillman graduated summa cum laude from Arizona State University’s W.P. Carey School of Business with a B.S. in marketing on Dec. 19, 1997.

In cooperation with the family of Pat Tillman, Arizona State and the Arizona Cardinals have established the Pat Tillman Memorial Scholarship, which will provide support for ASU students in the W.P. Carey School of Business marketing

program and Sun Devil Athletics. For more information on the scholarship, please

contact Lynda Lumpkin at (480) 965-2475. Donations can be sent via mail to the ASU Foundation, Attn: Lynda Lumpkin, P.O. Box 873208, Tempe, AZ 85287-3208. Tillman’s family has also established a foundation in his memory, which can be reached at pattillmanfoundation.net.

Tillman’s No. 42 jersey was retired at halftime of the Washington State game last season and Pat Tillman Sr. visited the locker room after the game. The Sun Devil team will continue

to wear a patch with Tillman’s number on the front of their jerseys this season. The Pac-10 Conference has also honored Tillman by renaming its Defensive Player of the Year Award after him.

First-time requests should be made in writing on appropriate letterhead as soon as possible, but no later than two weeks before the desired game. Direct correspondence to Doug Tammaro, Associate Director for Media Relations, Carson Student-Athlete Center, Arizona State University, Tempe, Arizona 85287-2505. Every effort will be made to mail creden-tials so wading through “will call” lines on game day can be avoided.

Mid-Week Practices Generally, the Sun Devils practice from 4-6 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday. All practices are open to the media. Players and coaches are usually available for brief inter-views after practice. Practices are closed to the general public.

Mid-Week Interviews ASU head coach Dirk Koetter asks that all interview requests with coaches and student-athletes be channeled through the media relations office for the convenience of all.

Road Game Credentials Requests for credentials and parking for ASU road games should be made through Mark Brand. He will confirm credentials requests with opponent sports information directors.

Parking Limited press parking is located in lots surrounding Sun Devil Stadium. A desire for parking passes should be stated in the credential(s) requests. Parking questions should be directed to Doug Tammaro.

Sun Devil Stadium Press Box The state-of-the-art Sun Devil Stadium press box, in its 13th season of use, is one of the premier facilities of its kind in the nation. The fully air-conditioned box is located atop the upper deck of the west side of the stadium. The press box is one level, with the exception of an open photography deck on the roof. The main writer’s area is located at midfield and to the right of the elevator. Booth space flanks the large central working area. A separate eating area is to the right of the elevator, directly behind the working press area. Rest rooms are to the left of the elevator. Direct-dial telephones are located at approximately every other seat.

Will Call “Will Call” for Sun Devil home football games is located at the south end zone ticket office. It opens an hour and a half before kickoff.

Press Box Food Snacks and soft drinks are available to media members beginning one and one-half hours before kickoff. A meal is available for sale in the press box as well.

Press Box Services Olson Statistical Services will again pro-vide all statistical information in the Sun Devil Stadium press box. The play-by-play account, halftime statistics, final statistics, game notes and coaches’ quotes will be distributed. Also, a play-by-play account of down and distance will be provided verbally over the press box public address system and over a hard line for radio and television. Scores of other games are also available.

Photographers Sideline access is restricted to working photographers from media outlets according to NCAA rules. On game day, photographers must show their credential to the attendant

at the southwest end zone in order to secure a second credential. Both credentials must be worn for sideline access.

Postgame Interviews The Dutson Theater (located on the third floor of the Carson Center) is utilized for post-game interviews for ASU players and coaches. Head coach Dirk Koetter and requested student-athletes will be available to the media following a brief “cooling off” period. ASU’s locker room is closed. Those desiring interviews with the oppos-ing coach and players should proceed to the north end of Sun Devil Stadium to the visitor’s locker room. Press Access The press gate is located at the southwest corner of Sun Devil Stadium. The elevator to the press box is situated on the west side of the stadium at the main concourse level.

Telephones Approximately 60 telephones are available to the media in the seating area of the press box. All telephones are for credit card or collect calls only. In addition, three pay tele-phones are located in the rear of the press box for private telephone calls. To install telephones in the Sun Devil Stadium press box, contact Qwest at 1-800-603-6000. Radio stations installing phones for broad-casts should specify the usage by indicating the need for a radio loop for broadcasting and should use Doug Tammaro’s name as the contact.

Real-Time Data Rights The acceptance of media credentials is an acknowledgement of Arizona State’s rights to the game and play-by-play coverage and your agreement to abide by any restrictions Arizona State may place on real-time play-by-play coverage and use of comprehensive game statistics. Failure to abide by these restrictions implemented by Arizona State may result in revocation of press credentials. Arizona State reserves the right to grant approval for distribution of real-time play-by-play, game-related statistics and informa-tion through the Internet.

2005-06 Pac-10 Bowl Game Arrangements/Selection

Procedures

The Pacific-10 Conference has arrangements with seven bowl partners. The lineup is led by the Rose Bowl, which will play host to the Bowl Championship Series (BCS) National Championship Game on Jan. 4, 2006. Therefore, the Pac-10 champion will need to rank No. 1 or 2 in the nation in the final BCS rankings to head to Pasadena. Failing that, the Pac-10 cham-pion will head to the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl.

Agreements also remain in place with the Pacific Life Holiday Bowl, Vitalis Sun Bowl, Insight Bowl, Pioneer PureVision Las Vegas Bowl and Emerald Bowl.

Regardless of the disposition of the Pac-10 champion, a second Pac-10 team may be select-ed for an at-large berth in the Bowl Champion-ship Series in any given year. Pac-10 agreements with its other bowl partners provide for that occurrence.

Don’t Be Sidelined: Ask Before You ActArizona State University is strongly committed to conducting its overall athletic program according to the official rules and regulations of the NCAA and Pacific-10 Conference. Within the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, the Office of Compliance is responsible for coordinating and monitoring all aspects of these rules and regulations.

As an athletic representative of Arizona State University, you, too, must abide by all NCAA rules and regulations, as Arizona State University is held responsible for all actions related to its prospective student-athletes and/or enrolled student-athletes.

We thank you for your continued support in our effort to succeed both academically and athletically. While this information does not contain all the applicable NCAA rules and regulations, it should serve as a guide. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call Jody Smith in the Office of Compliance at (480) 965-5943.

Remember to always ask before you act, as your action may jeopardize the eligibility of a prospective or enrolled student-athlete.
