Remember about two years ago I was telling you all about some great new tires I’d bought for my 2005? The Michelin Pilot Sports All Weather run fl ats which had a 45,000 mile tread life warranty. Fast forward a couple years and about 15,000 miles... Rears are still like brand new but the fronts are almost shot. I certainly don’t race the car, although I’ve been known to take some freeway ramps in a spirted manner. I looked up the same tire at Discount Tire online and I see now the warranty is only 30,000 miles. They must have learned from experience. Hopefully Discount will give me a rebate on a couple new fronts, otherwise it’ll be about $600, (They have actually come down in two years!). But, considering my OEM Goodyears were dead front and back in the same mileage, I’m actually ahead at least $1400.

Am I happy with the tires after a couple years use? You bet! Even worn out, they are still much quieter and feel better than the old stiffer Goodyears were when new. In the rain/snow/ice they are so much better that it almost feels like driving a 4-wheel drive car, compared to the Goodyears. I will defi nitely never go back to Goodyear.

MARCH 16, 2012, MEMBERSHIP MEETINGFRIENDLY CHEVROLET, STEMMONS FREEWAY, DALLAS

Mitch Factor brought the meeting to order at 7:40 PM, March 16, 2012. The February minutes were approved as printed in the March newsletter.

The treasurer, Jim Iuele, gave the treasurer’s report.

The NCCC Governor, Paul Wolter, reported:

There will be three more meetings of NCCC governors this year.

CCT autocross with Cowtown Vettes is scheduled for April 28 and 29. Please sign up on the workers sheet being passed around the room. Cowtown will hold their autocrosses on Saturday and ours will be on Sunday. We should have workers participating both days, but Cowtown is obligated to work at a car show on Sunday, so we might be short on workers for Sunday. We need CCT workers especially on Sunday.

Membership Chairperson, Mary Wolters, introduced visitors, Cindy and Phil Newman, who have a Z06. Mary also displayed a blanket that she made for a child recovering from surgery and the family is staying at the Ronald McDonald House. The children can take the blankets home with them. She suggested that our members could do this as a club project. Also, those that know how to knit could make caps for newborn babies. Mary and Paul both described the Ronald McDonald House and said we could have our May business meeting at the Ronald McDonald House meeting room. This would allow our members to tour the house and realize the benefi ts of this establishment.

Mary gave a surprise gift of a CCT t-shirt to one of our members who wore her name tag tonight. The winners name, Cindy Crisler, was drawn from a hat containing all the badges worn tonight. Wear your name tag so we can get to know your name and face.

Joe Carrion announced he was heading up a CCT car show May 5th at Glen Rose in conjunction with the Peruvian Horse show.

Paulette announced a vintage car show March 24th in Arlington.

Bob Stephens announced he was working on another trip to Costa Rica for March of 2013. So start saving your money for a great trip.

Gene Whitaker conducted the raffl e and Charles took pictures of the winners for the newsletter. Everyone was invited to attend the after-club dinner at Mercado Juarez Mexican Restaurant on Northwest Highway, arranged by Gail and Joe Carrion. .

The meeting adjourned at 8:15 PM.

Respectfully submitted,

Jeanette Bradley, Secretary

Some thoughts from Keith Amendson

Snoopy Brings Healing LaughterArticle by Carol Factor

The Children’s Medical Center Pediatric Healthcare System in Dallas devotes itself solely to caring for the complex medical needs of children. This top pediatric hospital also has a mission: to help children remember how to laugh and act silly in spite of the often serious illnesses facing many of them.

Enter Snoopy - one of the best loved and dynamic characters in the “Peanuts” comic strip. Dancing, kidding around, creating smiles and laughter on each child’s face is Snoopy’s job during a visit to the hospital on Monday, March 19th. One of our very own CCT members merges with the Snoopy character and costume radiating all-out enthusiasm and a passion for humor. Bet you can’t guess who’s inside…

On the other hand, it’s easy to think of someone in our club that truly enjoys making others laugh and feel good: Susan Warnecke, of course! Giving her humor, time and energy to the children comes as naturally as clowning around does for her. Thanks, Susan, for contributing fun fi lled moments to children that may have forgotten how great it feels to laugh. I am told that some of the children that are normally reserved and subdued even joined in the fun with Snoopy.

I’ll bet Snoopy becomes a frequent and often requested guest at the children’s hospital.

There are Corvette owners and Corvette enthusiasts.

Have you:

• Been to the Corvette factory?

• Been to the Corvette museum?

• Been to a N.C.C.C. convention?

• Run a rally?

• Run an economy run?

• Entered a car show?

• Entered a drag race?

• Entered a gymkhana?

• Put on an event?

• Gone on a tour?

• Entered a low or high speed autocross?

• Gone out of town to another club’s event?

• Helped another club member with his/her car?

• Been responsible for getting a new member to join the club?

• Taken a friend’s Corvette on a trailer and delivered it out of state?

• Attended an event out of town, found a Corvette guy from another club broken down, gone to the hotel, taken your car, driven back to pick up your friend and take him to the hotel? It can make for a long night!

The Corvetter April 2012Trip to Fate By Keith Amendson, Photos by Paulette and Joe Wagner and Keith

I would like to thank all of you that made the trip out east on Saturday, March 3. I was surprised and yet very happy to see so many people show up. There has never been that many Corvettes in Fate, Texas, EVER!

I went to the “Honey Hole” restaurant today (Sunday, March 4) and they were very happy to have us. I told him I lost count. He told me he thought he counted 35 heads. Great job, guys and gals.

For those that want something other than catfi sh and shrimp, next time we can go to “The Fish Camp.” Some of you have already been there so you know what it’s like. It’s only about 6 or 8 miles further down the road. Just let me know.

Once again, I want to thank everyone. It really made my day. The folks at the “Honey Hole” send their thanks, also.

As always, Keith

PS I really didn’t need a computer to pull this off. All it took was the post offi ce (stamps) and Offi ce Max (copier).

The Corvetter April 2012March 2012 Meeting & Raffl e

By Charles Whitaker

The regular meeting of the Corvette Club of Texas was held on March 16, 2012 at Friendly Chevrolet with our president Mitch Factor conducting the business. The pictures below show the people that attended the meeting and the 11 raffl e prizes donated by out members.

March Meeting Attendance Raffl e Prizes

The Raffl e Lady, Gene Whitaker, collected money from selling tickets for the raffl e. Each person who brought a gift for the raffl e and each visitor got a free ticket. The 11 raffl e prize-winners are pictured below with their prizes. I want to personally thank all of the people who brought prizes because it makes the meeting a lot of fun. As usual a new member or visitor won a prize. We had a great time trying to fi gure out who had the winning tickets in their pocket and couldn’t fi nd it. By the way, it is okay to bring a prize back that you won and can’t use. For instance, if you got a bottle of wine and you don’t drink, bring it back. Just remember that all prizes should be in good taste and the more Corvette stuff that you bring the better.

Our after meeting dinner was hosted by Joe & Gail Carrion at the Mercado Juarez Café. All of the members that attended the club meeting were at the dinner except for one. The Mexican food was great and the servings were extremely large.

The Corvetter April 2012Governors Report.

2012 CCT Autocross Event. Our annual CCT & CTV autocross is the end of this month on April 28th & 29th at the Mineral Wells Airport, which is at the same location we hosted autocrosses two years ago. I hope that all the CCT members will be able to pitch in and support your club by coming out and helping us make it a successful event again this year. If you are unable to help with any of the tasks, come out and socialize with the racers, other club members and watch the racing. It is always a very interesting weekend and everyone who participates has fun.

We successfully conducted the autocross planning meeting with CTV at the Coors facility board room. Discussions included course layout, lunches, workers, registration, teching, cleaning the course, timing and other numerous items necessary for a successful event. Many thanks to all CCT members who attended this meeting.

We will be setting up the road course at the Mineral Wells Airport (located on the East side of Mineral Wells) beginning at approximately 5:00 PM on Friday, April 27th. This year’s road course will be longer at just under a mile in length since we have a much larger and open area available. If you are available, please come out Friday afternoon and help set up the course, staging and timing areas.

CTV will be hosting 7 NCCC autocrosses, then the following day CCT will host our 7 NCCC autocrosses. Lunches will be served for both racers and workers on both days at the track. Entrant check-in and teching the race cars will be at the track both Saturday and Sunday mornings beginning at 7:30 AM. Corner worker training will be conducted at 8:00 AM at the track Saturday and Sunday mornings. The drivers’ meeting will be conducted at 8:30 AM and racing starts following the parade lap on both Saturday & Sunday. If you are racing, you must be present at the drivers’ meeting to be allowed to race.

The host hotel is the Holiday Inn in Mineral Wells. Hotel reservation information and a map to the autocross site is included in the autocross event fl yer provided in this newsletter.

Bottled water for the workers and racers will be provided both days. Be sure and bring along the following items:

- Sun screen

- Folding chair

- Rain gear

- Lightweight clothing

- Comfortable shoes

We are looking forward to seeing you at your club’s autocross.
