Project Background

The vast Vitry-Alfortville research center (23 hectares) consisting of R&D units and production units, is an im-portant platform of the French pharmaceutical giant.

TTK equips and protects various areas in several build-ings on this site with its water leak detection systems, for example:

V In the late 90’s, TTK installed its analog system in the Galien Building. 20 years later this was replaced by the TTK advanced digital system bringing with it the benefit of technical progression for the client.

V In 2015, a TTK digital system was installed inside the laboratory zones of the Monod Building.

V In 2017, the client replaced an American com-petitor brand system with TTK’s in the De Fermat Building. The retrofit will ease the management of all leak detection devices located across the different buildings by enabling them all to be monitored by one FG-NET panel located in Galien Building.

TTK equips and protects also other Sanofi sites with the latest leak detection systems, such as Lyon Mar-cy L’Etoile, Montpellier, Gentilly and Chilly-Mazarin.

ttk’s solution

Metal grated walkways are present inside the Galien building with numerous air handlers distributing the conditioned air installed above, water supply pipes below, and the laboratories located just one level below this. All these critical zones tolerate zero water leak.

V TTK France recommended installing various lengths of sense cables (1, 3, 7 or 15 meters) as well as point sensors on the level above the gratings. For the level below the gratings, ca-bles are installed in a serpentine way to efficiently protect the entire floor.

V Only 1 FG-NET monitoring panel and 1 FG-BBOX panel (a satel-lite device for the FG-NET panel and capable of managing ad-ditional sense cables) are needed to monitor over 1290 meters of sense cables installed over 7 different zones.

V The addition of 1 FG-RELAYS (external relays box) adds a set of 24 configurable external relays to the FG-NET panel, allowing it to drive external devices such as solenoid valves, BMS signals, beacons etc, to react in the case of a leak or system alarm. In this example, as required by the client, the FG-RELAYS is con-nected to the client’s device and reacts as soon as a leak is detected on the FG-NET panel.

V The connection between these three panels is via the existing TCP/IP network, therefore there is no restriction in terms of the distance between the positioning of the panels. (This is how the FG-BBOX panel installed in the De Fermat Building will be connected to the FG-NET panel and remotely controlled.)

Project requirements

V To provide early detection and precise location of any water leak within critical zones with metal grated walkways (see photo) - both above and below them.

V To use minimum monitoring panels (to be more cost-ef-fective) and to centralize all information in one place, from where it can be reported to the client’s BMS.

V In the case of a leak occurring, the water leak detection sys-tem must react automatically and in the quickest time on cli-ent’s specific devices via relays.
