TERM 2 Week 10

GOOD COUNSEL

PRIMARY SCHOOL

25TH JUNE, 2019

Dear Parents/Carers,

Over the past three weeks teachers have

been collating data from class testing,

observations and assessment tasks to

assist them produce a comprehensive

report on each student for their work

across the twenty weeks of Semester 1.

As I have read through each report and

viewed the results, marks and

comments, I am pleased across the

board with the effort given by the vast

majority of students. Teachers have

gone to great lengths to outline student

strengths but also in which areas they

can improve.

Good Counsel teachers spend many

hours moderating results across classes

and schools in the Diocese. They do not

allocate A-E on a quota system but

rather assess against a set criteria. The

5 point assessment system A-E or Very

High to Support Required is a

progressive scale. Effort and application

is indicated as from “Consistently” to

“Needs Improvement”. A “C” Sound level

is what is expected for your child at this

point of their year level journey at the

end of Semester 1. A “B” (High) or

“A” (Very High) is only achieved if

students are working beyond level

expectations. Each child learns and

achieves at different rates. I am happier

to see a child working very hard,

receiving support and receiving a “D”

Developing or “E” Support Required than

a student receiving a “C” but they are

putting in minimal effort.

This year, more students have received

in classroom support, intervention and

small group or one on one assistance

Congratulations to our Good Counsel Primary School Lightning

Netball girls who placed second (on a count back) at the Fowler’s

Cup Carnival in Cairns on Saturday. The girls played 6 games

winning 5 in the Primary School Division.

During the holidays we have our Annual Show. Once again our

school will have a designated display area. Thankyou to Mrs

Sugars and Mrs Erbacher for their efforts in setting up the display

which showcases some great student work. Please take the time to

walk through the school’s pavilion and this year also check out the

great work of our Playgroup children who have their own display set

up by Mrs Mc Elhinney. This show section is free….

I wish everyone an enjoyable mid year break and hope you all get

time to spend with family and friends. See you all rested and

refreshed for the start of Term 3 on Monday July 15.

Regards

Liam
