Animated Logo Development
Tuesday – Thursday 7
Aims & Outcomes:
• Aims: To understand the animated logo development process, and how this relates to a time-based task.
• To use understanding of the principles of animation gained during animation lessons, and relate this to a time-based task.
• To develop ideas for creative solutions in time-based animated logo design.
• Outcomes:
• Bronze: Develop time-based animated design ideas on paper (sketch ideas for content, production schedule, script, storyboard) and relate this to your design intentions.
• Silver: Explore the development of digital animated sequences in preparation for final design ideas (animatics, animated sequences). Analyse the success of your ideas.
• Gold: Develop time-based animated sequences to final design and production, relating this to your assessment criteria and evaluating the success of your outcomes.
Design Task 12:
• Once you have developed packaging materials, the next step is to:
• Add all your work your have done with Lee to your sketchbook and blog.
• Carry out further research into the creation of animated logos relevant to your theme.
• Develop and plan animated logo ideas on paper before you go into the digital environment. – production plan, script, storyboard, animatics.
• Develop your ideas experimentally in the digital environment, noting your findings from you development, using screen shots.
• Develop your final animated sequence using Photoshop and/or Flash.
• Keep a journal of everything you do.
• Check that you are achieving the assessment criteria at regular intervals.
Research - Find out about
• Different types of animated logo
• How animated logos are designed
• How they link to the brand
• A wide range of different examples – add to sketchbook and blog
• The planning and development processes e.g. storyboards, used in animated sequence design
• The digital techniques used to create animated logos
• The file types animated logos exist in and where they are used
Develop skills in
• Writing scripts
• Production planning
• Creating storyboards
• Working with animatics
• Developing animations using Photoshop
• Animating in Flash
• Exporting animation to appropriate file types
Produce• Research:
• Which supports your intentions
• Planning:
• Extensive paper based planning, including, initial ideas, script, production plan, storyboards, animatics, etc.
• Development:
• Sketch out your ideas on paper
• Develop production plan and scripts
• Create detailed storyboards
• Experiment with animatics
• Create final animation
• Analysis:
• Use your journal, sketchbook and screen prints to record the developmental process
• Peer feedback
• Overall reflection and evaluation.
Remember:
• You are communication with a customer
• You must use your existing branding and the logo(s) must reflect your brand
• You must show your digital development via annotated screen shots showing your use of tools and techniques, elements ands principles etc.
The Animation Development Process:
Initial Animated Logo Idea Sketches
Create a Production Plan of the duration of the animation development
Write a script outline
including action etc.
Develop a storyboard of action
Explore Animatics
Create and test your animation
Get feedback
Analyse Suitability of
Final Solution
