Numbered Heads Together
Definisi
Suatu model pembelajaran yang lebih mengedepankan kepada aktivitas siswa dalam
mencari, mengolah, dan melaporkan informasi dari berbagai sumber yang akhirnya
dipresentasikan di depan kelas (Rahayu, 2006). Numbered heads together pertama kali
dikenalkan oleh Spencer Kagan dkk (1993).
Penerapan di Dalam Kelas
1. Penomoran (Numbering)
Guru membagi kelas menjadi kelompok-kelompok kecil. Jumlah kelompok sebaiknya
mempertimbangkan jumlah konsep yang di pelajari. Jika jumlah peserta didik dalam satu kelas
terdiri dari 40 orang dan terbagi menjadi 5 kelompok berdasarkan jumlah konsep yang dipelajari,
maka tiap kelompok terdiri 8 orang. Tiap-tiap orang dalam tiap-tiap kelompok diberi nomor 1-8.
2. Pengajuan Pertanyaan (Questioning)
kelompok mendapat giliran memaparkan jawaban atas pertanyaan guru. Berdasarkan jawaban-
jawaban itu guru dapat mengembangkan diskusi lebih mendalam, sehingga peserta didik dapat
menemukan jawaban pertanyaan itu sebagai pengetahuan yang utuh.
Example of Learning Material
(http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-p5R9PIBDXx8/UXqS5wooLPI/AAAAAAAAAF0/3Bp0Suh6l-4/s1600/ptk1.jpg)
After reading a story (as an example; the miller, his son and their donkey) , review the parts of
the plot.
For example, make sure everyone on your team can name the character(s), the climax, the
problem, the setting, the theme.
For vocabulary review, students can give the synonym or antonym of a word. They can use it
in a sentence. They can spell it. They can add the missing word in a sentence. They can
replace a given word in a sentence.
Students can review various punctuation marks in context of writing. Place an excerpt from
student writing on an overhead or on a chart. Ask questions regarding punctuating the text.
Where do the full stops go? Where should the quotation marks go? Where should the comma
go?
Be able to name three good verbs (or adjectives) to use with _________ (a particular character
in a story or book).
Be sure everyone can name a word that can substitute for run, said, good, etc.
When reviewing or practicing parts of speech, use three rounds to build progressively harder
questions. First round, decide if an underlined word in a sentence is a particular part of
speech. For example, “The dog is brown. Is brown an adjective?” Second round, students
name the particular part of speech in the sentence. For example, “Carrie always forgets to tie
her shoes. Which word is the adverb?” Third round, students name a particular part of speech.
For example, “Make sure everyone in your group can name a noun.”
Students can tell where to add capital letters in a given sentence.
Before beginning a writing session, review the types of punctuation or capital letters that may
be needed. For example, “Make sure everyone in your group can name a place you will need
to use a comma when you write your letter.” “What things will you need to capitalize in your
letter?”
Students can review irregular verbs or plural nouns.
Use homonyms in sentences. “Make sure everyone in your group can give a sentence for new
or knew.”
The Appropriate Approach of This Method
NO Numbered Heads Together Cooperative Learning Explanation
1. Penomoran (Numbering) Ketergantungan secara
positive
In this part, students
separate into several groups
regarding to the amount of
concept which is learned.
Every student accountable
for learning the material
that helps each other and
freely shares their ideas
about the text that they
write.
2. Pengajuan Pertanyaan
(Questioning)
Tanggung jawab
perseorangan
Each member of a team is
responsible not only for
learning what is taught but
also for helping teammates
learn, thus creating an
atmosphere of achievement.
3. Berpikir Bersama (Head - Tatap muka penting The teacher posses a
Together) - Komunikasi antar
anggota kelompok
question and students “put
their heads together” to
figure out the answer.
4. Pemberian Jawaban
(Answering)
Proses evaluasi dalam
kelompok
The teacher calls a specific
number to respond as a
speaker for the group.
Note: Robert E. Slavin (1995) stated Numbered Heads Together is a cooperative learning
strategy that holds each student accountable for learning the material.
Concept Mapping
Definisi
Example of Learning Material
(http://pad2.whstatic.com/images/thumb/4/4f/Make-a-Concept-Map-Step-9.jpg/670px-Make-a-Concept-Map-Step-9.jpg)
Students can make topic of concept mapping after a hands-on prewriting experience.
After reading several writings (books, poems, plays, stories) on a theme, students can map the
concept to begin exploring the connections between writings and the theme.
After Brainstorming and categorising, students can create their own version.
