TUP and CPSC join PACUIT for the 14th National Conference
To create an environ-
ment that would further
improve the academe-
industry working relation-
ship, the Philippine Associa-
tion of Colleges and Univer-
sities of Industrial Technolo-
gy (PACUIT) teamed up
with the Technological Uni-
versity of the Philippines
(TUP) and the Colombo Plan
Staff College (CPSC) to or-
ganize the 14th PACUIT Na-
tional Conference held at
the Development Academy
of the Philippines, Tagaytay
City from April 27 to 29,
2016. The conference is an
annual event of PACUIT with
this year’s theme, “PACUIT
@ 14: Academe-Industry
Linkage towards a Sustaina-
ble Global Society.”
The national conference
revolved around three major
components: First compo-
nent focused on the presen-
tation and discussion of
the different topics derived
from the theme; the se-
cond component was the
provision of venue for
members of PACUIT to
present their research out-
puts and effective practices
which may address theo-
retical, methodological or
practical aspects related to
industrial technology and

President’s Notes: President Pili attends 2016 ASAIHL Conference
Representatives of member institutions of ASAIHL in an opportunity to congregate during the

Dr. Adora S. Pili, President, Technological University of the Phil-
ippines (TUP) and Dr. Gisela V. Rolluqui, Dean, College of Industrial
Technology attended the 2016 ASAIHL Conference held at the Na-
tional Taiwan University (NTU), Taipei last May 18 to 20, 2016.
Both officials served as participants in the said international confer-
ence, with the theme “Mapping Out New Landscapes of Higher Edu-
cation in Southeast Asia” with three sub themes : Migration and
Higher Education; Gender Equality and Higher Education; and En-
trepreneurship and Higher Education.
The 3-day event was highlighted
with three keynote speeches, nine country
reports and eleven parallel sessions. The
parallel sessions, wherein wide array of re-
search papers that were presented that gen-
erated exchanges and fruitful dialogues
among ASAIHL members. Among those
presented were the research papers on
“Gender and Development Best Practices:
The TUP Experience,” by Dr. Pili, co-
authored by Dr. Florida C. Labuguen and Dr.
Gina L. Basa; and the “Philippine Women in
Industries” by Dean Rolluqui. Aside from
being a research paper presenter, Dr. Pili
also served as Chair in the Parallel Session
on Gender Equality and Higher Education
topics.
ASAIHL (Association of Southeast
Asia Institutions of Higher Learning) is a
non-governmental organization whose pur-
pose is to assist member institutions to
strengthen themselves through mutual self-
help and to achieve international distinction
in teaching, research and public service. In
so doing, the institutions contribute strength
to their respective nations and to the entire
region.

was chaired by Dr. Ricardo E. Ro-
toras, President, Mindanao Univer-
sity of Science and Technology;
Parallel Session 1D which was
about Food Science, chaired by Dr.
Ma. Leonor F. Validor, Director,
TUP Visayas Campus; finally,
Parallel Session 1E which focused
on Technology Innovation and
chaired by Dr. Myrna M. Tepora,
Director, TUP Cavite Campus.
The second day’s morning
session highlighted distinguished
Plenary Lecture speakers, such
as: Dr. Teresita C. Fortuna, Direc-
tor, Department of Science and Tech-
nology, NCR; Dr. Lourdes C. Gener-
alao, President, University of South-
eastern Philippines; Dr. Alex B. Bril-
in line with academe-industry curricu-
lum and research collaboration; and
the third component was designed for
the participants to experience techno-
logical advancement in the field of
manufacturing and automation in the
industry.
Dr. Mohammad Naim Yaakub ,
Director, TVET Special Projects, De-
partment of Polytechnic Education,
Ministry of Higher Education, Malaysia
delivered the keynote address. Other
high-level officials in the opening pro-
gram were Dr. Adora S. P i l i , TUP
Pres iden t ; Dr. Renato V. Alba,
PACUIT Executive Director; Dr. Nora M.
Ponce, PACUIT President; and Hon.
Agnes D. Tolentino, Mayor, Tagaytay
City. The afternoon session of the first
day featured plenary lectures. Notable
speakers included Prof. Dr. Govien-
darajan Kulanthaivel, Acting Director
General, CPSC; Dr. Renato M. Sorolla,
President, Carlos Hilado Memorial State
College; Dr. Manuel C. Belino, Dean,
School of Mechanical and Manufactur-
ing Engineering, Mapua Institute of
Technology; Dr. Luis M. Sorolla, Presi-
dent, Western Visayas State Universi-
ty; Dr. David Hall, Chief of Party,
USAID-STRIDE and Dr. Cornelio C.
Garcia, President, Ramon Magsaysay
Technological University. Five Parallel
Sessions were included: Parallel Ses-
sion 1A that centred on Curriculum
Enhancement with Dr. Joel P. Limson,
President, Negros Oriental State Uni-
versity as the Session Chair; Parallel
Session 1B which focused on Industry-
Community Linkage was chaired by Dr.
Limuel C. Cirineo, Dean, CIT, Marikina

AVR, College of Industrial
Technology (CIT), Technolog-
ical University of the Philip-
pines (TUP). These OSY’s
were scholars of the Sanayan
sa Kakayahang IndustriyaL
Program (SKIL) . SKIL pro-
gram is a technical and vocational skills train-
ing program that benefits underprivileged
youth who have the intelligence, talent, and
perseverance to succeed. The training course
was a joint project of TUP and the Pilipinas
Shell Foundation, Inc. (PSFI) under the Pilipi-
nas Shell Petroleum Corporation.
The graduation program was attended by
officials of TUP and PSFI led by Dr. Adora S.
Pili, TUP President who gave an inspirational
message. Also present were: Engr. Felipe
Ronald M. Argamosa, Vice President for Re-
search and Extension; Dr. Gisela V. Rolluqui,
Dean CIT; Dr. Mila V. Espinosa, Director, Uni-
versity Extension Service, Mr. Alberto D.
Javier, Program Development Manager, PSFI;
and Ms. Jeanette L. Baretto, Communications
and Social Performance Advisor-Downstream,
Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corporation. Moreo-
ver, Mr. Joshua Matulin gave a testimonial
message as scholar of SKIL.
The training course was conducted from
April 11 to June 11, 2016 at the premises of
the College of Industrial Technology, TUP,
Manila campus.

Continuing Its Journey To
Higher Grounds”, the gradu-
ates of the Technological
University of the Philippines-
Philippine School Doha (TUP-
PSD) External Studies Pro-
gram marched along with
their fellow graduates in the
various Masters’ and Doctor-
ate degree programs during
the 111th Commencement
Exercises held at the Manila
Hotel last April 6, 2016.
As an offshore program,
TUP-PSD External Studies
Program benefits the faculty
members of Philippine School
Doha based in Qatar in terms
of career advancement and
professional development. Pro-
grams offered under the part-
nership include the Master in
Management (MM), Master of
Arts in Industrial Education ma-
jor in Administration and Super-
vision (MAIE-AS) and Doctor of
Education major in Industrial
Education Management (Ed.D.-
IEM).
There were 19 graduates of
the TUP-PSD External Studies
Program last April 2016 with 1
MAIE graduate, 10 MM gradu-
ates, and 8 Ed.D.-IEM graduates. With the suc-
cess of the partnership, both TUP and PSD hopes
to continue addressing the professional develop-
ment needs of the remaining clienteles.

The Technological University of
the Philippines (TUP) signed a Mem-
orandum of Agreement last May 10,
2016 with Sto. Rosario Sapang Pa-
lay College, Inc. (SRSPC, Inc.) to
provide relevant and quality gradu-
ate program opportunities for the
clienteles from San Jose del Monte,
B u l a c a n .
The ceremony was held at
the Office of the President, TUP-
Manila and was attended by offi-
cials from SRSPC, Inc. including
Rev. Fr. Teodoro Bulawit, President;
Rev. Fr. Alejandro C. Enriquez, Dean of
Academics Program; Dr. Carmelita Vil-
lamor, Academics Coordinator; Prof. Allan
Advincula, IT Coordinator; and Ms. Alona
Mose, Finance Officer; as well as officials
from TUP including Dr. Melito A. Baccay,
Vice President for Academic Affairs; Dr.
Ronaldo A. Juanatas, Vice President for

SRSPC, Inc. is a Catholic educa-
tional institution located in San Jose
del Monte City, Bulacan. Operated
by the Diocese of Malolos, SRSPC,
Inc. offers Bachelor of Arts and
Bachelor of Science degrees as well
as pre-school, elementary and high
school education.
The collaboration between TUP
and SRSPC, Inc. aims to provide
relevant and quality graduate pro-
gram opportunities for the clienteles
in San Jose Del Monte, the most
populated City of Bulacan.
Among the possible graduate
programs to be offered by TUP at
SRSPC, Inc. are the Master of Arts
in Teaching (MAT) Mathematics,
Science, Technology and Home Eco-
nomics; Master of Technology Edu-
cation (MTE); Master of Information
Technology (MIT), Master of Arts in
Industrial Education (MAIE); and
Master in Management (MM).
With the partnership, teachers
in San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan and
the nearby areas will have better
opportunity to enhance their capa-
bility to help them respond to local
and global challenges.

study tour program organized by
the Colombo Plan Staff College
(CPSC). The said program was
aimed to share the best practices of
TUP in its operations, academic pro-
grams, infrastructure projects and
policy making process.
Dr. Adora S. Pili, TUP President,
led the University officials who wel-
comed the visitors. The reception
was prepared for them that includ-
ed: orientation about TUP and the
curriculum of the College of Indus-
trial Technology (CIT); open forum;
and a tour of the campus particular-
ly CIT facilities.

upgrade the quality of
educational leaders in

staff; and promote

ment activities in both
TUP and NVSU.

TUP students bag award in NASA Space Apps Challenge
Students from the Technological
University of the Philippines, Manila
(TUPM) did it again. This time, they
succeeded their way to NASA Space
App Challenge 2016. They bagged
the Best in Mission Concept Award
after competing with several contest-
ants from 55 different countries.
The TUP team which was com-
posed of John Hay Supetran (BSCS),
Emil Matubis (BCSC), Arthur Policar-
pio (BCSC) and Ronald Allan Coros
(BTIT) created three solutions name-
ly, “Saturn V R”, “Clear for Take on”
and the “Herald of Creator.” Their
key for winning was the idea about
building futuristic spaceport and ex-
ploring it via VR.
NASA Space Challenge is an inter-
national event participated in by pro-
grammers, developers, professionals
and students from different countries.
These contestants vie for different
categories such as technology, aero-
nautics, space stations, solar system,
earth and journey to mars with the
aim of innovating solutions for space-
related problems. Win-
ners in every participating
country have the chance
to be chosen by NASA for
a global award.
The 3-day hackathon
challenge was held last
April 22,2016 – April
24,2016 at PLDT- Innol-

Being the host of the 2016 International Higher Education Re-search Forum (IHERF), the Technological Uni-versity of the Philippines (TUP) held a preliminary meeting last June 29, 2016 to start talks for the forum’s successful implementation. Presid-ed by Prof. Renato Butch R. Bituonan, Vice Chairman, IHERF Man-agement Committee and Director, University De-velopment Research
Services, the meeting was attended by the chairmen and members of IHERF’s different tech-nical working committees. The 2016 IHERF will be held on September 14 to 17, 2016 at the Tagay-tay International Conven-tion Center. Organized by the Philippine Higher Education Consortium (PHERC) and TUP as its host this year, the fo-rum’s theme is “ Realizing the Future through Re-

CAFA student wins CSC’s Logo Design Making Contest

#KontraRedTape Logo
Design Contest, a pro-
ject of the Civil Service
Commission (CSC), Na-
tional Capital Region
(NCR) . Ms. Ang was giv-
en a plaque and a cash
prize amounting to seven
thousand pesos during
the ARTA Logo Design
Contest awarding cere-
mony held last July 15,
2016 at the IRTC Confer-
ence Hall, TUP Manila.
The said prizes were
awarded by Dr. Adora S.
Pili, TUP President and Dr.
Evelyn E. Viernes, Director
II, CSC-DPWH.
The winning logo was
judged based on the follow-
ing criteria: (a) Depiction
of the ARTA law; (b) Effec-
tiveness of the contest
piece; (c) Creativity and
originality; and (d) Public
vote. Judges came from
CSC’s selected partner
agencies, partner civil soci-
ety organizations and the
Commission (en banc).

exchange and collaborate
with other Technical and
Vocational Education and
Training (TVET) institu-
tions and organizations in
Asia.
The event consisted of TVET Connex conference, which was a full program that offered lpanel de-bates, discussions and networking receptions that provided delegates with a fresh and current perspec-tive on resources, and best practices sharing that
practically helped move their plans forward. Most importantly, the event was seen as the start of mainstream-ing and broadening ac-cess to quality Technical Education and Vocation-al Training to prepare for the opening of ASEAN Economic Com-munity (AEC) where there will be free flow of goods, services, invest-ment capital as well as skilled labor.

City, Negros Occidental was awarded
with ISO 9001:2008 Certification in a
ceremony held at SMX Convention
Center, Bacolod City last June 21,
2016.
The ISO 9001:2008 refers to the
Quality Management Systems an-
chored on eight management princi-
ples such as Customer Focus, Leader-
ship, Involvement of People, Process
Approach, Systems Approach, Contin-
ual Improvement, Factual Approach,
and Mutually-Beneficial Supplier Rela-
