    A. Travel and TransportationPassport and Visa

You need a passport. Check yours today to see that it is valid for atleast six months beyond the date you intend to return to the U.S. Youcan obtain application and renewal forms for a U.S. passport on-line atwww.travel.state.govor at a local Post Office. It can take up to six weeks toreceive your passport. American & Canadian passport holders do not needa visa to visit any European country for periods of less than three months.

Booking your FlightsMost international flights leave Europe in the morning often requiring you tobook your homebound flight for the day after the tour ends. Check yourGetting To and Awayinformation specific to your ExperiencePlus! cyclingdeparture for start and end towns and airports.

Tips for booking flights: Search the web. Be sure to review their policies for restrictions and

cancellation penalties. Contact your travel agent. A good agent can help you find a competitive

fare. He or she will charge a fee for this service (often $35 per ticket). Fly into smaller airports. Some European airlines and their American

partners have competitive prices if you fly into large European hubslike London (on British Airways), Frankfurt (on Lufthansa), or

Amsterdam (on KLM) and then connect to a smaller airport withinyour destination country. Also look at flying into major European hubswith standard airlines and then book internal European flights usinglow cost airlines. Seewww.whichairline.com

    C. While There

Currency and Banking InformationEven though you may pay a fee, you usually get the best exchange rateusing ATM machines for ready cash. Check with your bank to be sure thatyour standard PIN number will work, as some cards require an internationalPIN. Many towns along the tour have ATM machines, but fewer towns haveplaces to change dollars. Most of our customers withdraw or change moneytwo - three times during the trip. We suggest withdrawing or changing $300at your arrival airport. Be aware that some machines limit the amount you

can withdraw. Once on tour the best place to change dollars is at the postoffice. Changing money in Croatia will get you a better exchange rate than ifyou change money in the U.S. Hotel exchange rates are often poor, so youwill be better off exchanging your money at banks or the Bureaux deChange in town.

Hotels and most restaurants and stores accept credit cards. (Be aware thatmany credit card companies charge a foreign transaction feecheck yourcards policies before you leave home.) VISA is most commonly accepted, followed by Master Card and American Express.

Traveling with your Cell PhoneCell phones that support the GSM Wireless system (Global System forMobile Communications) work in Europe. Most cell phone providers doprovide GSM capable phones, although you may have to call your serviceprovider to have the technology turned on. If you have T-Mobile or AT&T

you will need to unlock your GSM phone. You can also rent GSM capablephones. You must have an international plan turned on in order to makephone calls, and remember you will be charged for both outgoing andincoming phone calls. See Alternative cell phone ideas presented below.

Before you travel with your cell phone please check with your cell phoneprovider and make sure you know the answers to thesequestions:

    1. Is my cell phone GSM capable?2. If yes, is that option on and can I use it abroad or can I unlock

the GSM?3. If no, can I rent a GSM phone, or where can I get one?4. What are the international roaming fees for the country(ies) I am

    traveling in?

Alternative ideas:1.If your cell phone is GSM compatible you may wish to consider purchasinga local SIM card in your country of travel that allows international callingwithout going through you cell phone carriers plan. Most medium sizedtowns or larger, will have a cell phone store outlet and sell SIM Cards aslong as you have your passport with you. You can buy a Croatian SIM cardat newspaper and tobacco stores, small shops and markets for about HRK100, which already includes HRK 100 credit for calls. You can buy additionalcredits (in HRK 25, HRK 50 or HRK 100 cards) at the same places. . Pleasenote that you may need a Croatians help in setting up the SIM card as the

first instructions are in Croatian, but can be later be changed to English.2. If your cell phone is GSM compatible (and unlocked) you may wish toconsider purchasing a prepaid international SIM card plan. The majorprepaid package cellular companies are: Vip me, Simpa, Tele 2, andTomato. Approximate costs are HRK 2.75 for 1 minute of talking withinCroatia, HRK 6.70 for 1 minute of talking to the USA, HRK 4.40 - 5.40 for 1minute to other European countries, and HRK 0.50 for a text messageanywhere. Specific prices may vary according to the company.3. Mobal International Cell Phones,www.mobal.comoffers international phones and phone service with no monthly plan. You payonly for the minutes you use and they dont expire. You can add minutes bycredit card. Mobal also sells SIM cards for those that already have a GSM

cell phone.4. Payphones are common in Croatia. You can buy a telephone card from anewspaper kiosk for easy use - these come in various denominations.

Eating and DrinkingCroatian standard fare is similar to many other central European orMediterranean countries (pizza, pasta, meat dishes, fish). All food is safe toeat as restaurants are regularly inspected, and there is no problem withdrinking water. Unsurprisingly, seafood is a specialty along the Croatiancoastline and the islands.

    Hotel Check-in andCheck-out

    Hotel check out time in

Croatia varies, but is typicallyaround noon. Check-in time isaround 2-3 p.m., occasionallyyour room may be readyearly.

Hotels are required to logpassport information for eachtraveler so the front desk willask you for your passportwhen you check in. As aconvenience to you,ExperiencePlus! provides thisinformation to the front deskwhile you are traveling with uson tour.

Computers/Wirelessinternet accessSomehotels in Croatia (usually inlarge cities and large hotels)have wireless available tocustomers at an extra charge. However, few of the hotels we

stay at on tour offer theservice since they are smallerhotels and are in smallertowns. Places that haveinternet cafs rarely let youhook up your own computerunless you are in a large cityor a large internet caf. Thereare some cafs (not internetcafs!), especially in Split,Dubrovnik and Zagreb thathave unsecured networks thatyou can plug into, but thiscannot be predicted from oneplace or year to the next.

Drinking Water and TownFountainsTap water from your hotel orany bar or cafe is perfectlypotable.

Hotel breakfastsgenerally include coffee, tea, bread, butter, jam, pat, cheese, and ham. We try to ensure that our hotels provide a substantialbreakfast for cycling, and so ask them to include fruit, cereal, milk andmaybe yogurt. If you are on your own and need more sustenance, you canalways go to the supermarket to buy yogurt or cheese.

You can also find good snacksand pastries at Slasticarna, small pastry

shops. Look for apple, cheese or cherry strudel, Croatian donuts with a bitof marmalade inside, Chocolate donut, or Pasta, a cream based pastry.

For quick luncheson the road, you can go to a Pekara(bakery) and tryBurek, a savory pastry filled with cheese or meat and often eaten as a fastfood item. It may also be eaten with yogurt and is made of thin dough layersthat are stuffed and then rolled and cut into spirals. Another famous fast fooditem in Croatia is Cevapcici. Originally from Bosnia, this is a delicious dish ogrilled minced meat, found in the countries of theFormer Yugoslavia.Cevapcicimay be served on a plate or in a flatbread sandwich (then called alepinja), often with chopped onions, a local type of sour cream (kajmak), arelish made of bell peppers, eggplant, chili and garlic (ajvar)cottage cheese,
