AbouttheSpeakers:IsabelleRosso,PhDDr.RossohasadoctoraldegreeinclinicalpsychologyfromtheUniversityofPennsylvaniaandaBachelor’sdegreefromDartmouthCollege.Dr.Rosso’sAnxietyandTraumaticStressDisordersLaboratorystudiesneurobiologicalphenotypesofemotionaldisorders,andrelatesthemtobehavioralandclinicalphenotypes.Psychiatricresearchhasreachedanexcitingjuncturewheretheneuroscienceknowledgeandmethodsexistthatcanleadtoamechanisticunderstandingofpsychopathology—particularlyusingNIMH’sdimensionalresearchframeworkknownasRDoC.Inthisvein,herlaboratoryisstudyingPTSDusingmagneticresonancemethods,andrelatingbrainchangeswithfundamentalbehavioraldimensionssuchasfearextinction.Dr.Rosso’scurrentresearchisrepresentativeofalongstandinginterestinneurobehavioralmarkersofriskanddiseaseprocessesinpsychiatricillness.ThisstartedwithgraduateschoolstudyofneurodevelopmentalprecursorsofschizophreniaattheUniversityofPennsylvania,continuedwithaneuroimagingfellowshipatHarvard,andhopefullywillculminatewithsignificantcontributionstounderstandingriskandresilienceinstress-andanxiety-relatedsyndromes.GregoryFricchione,MDDr.GregoryFricchionehasbeenonfacultyatHarvardMedicalSchool(HMS)since1993andistheMindBodyMedical InstituteProfessorofPsychiatryatHMS.HefirstcametoMassachusettsGeneralHospital(MGH) in 1982 as a psychosomatic medicine fellow. Since July 2002 he has been associate chief ofPsychiatry atMGH and director of the Division of Psychiatry andMedicine. He directs a large staff ofattending psychiatrists and psychosomaticmedicine fellows taking care of the psychiatric problems ofover5000medicallyandsurgicallyillpatientseachyear.In2000,hejoinedtheCarterCenterinAtlanta,Georgia, while on leave of absence from Harvard Medical School (HMS).While there he worked withformerPresidentJimmyandformerFirstLadyMrs.RosalynnCarteronpublicandinternationalmentalhealth issuesandpolicy.Hewas the foundingdirectorof theMGHChesterM.PierceDivisionofGlobalPsychiatry. In2006hebecamedirectorof theBensonHenry Institute forMindBodyMedicineatMGHsucceedingDr.HerbertBenson.CourtneyBeard,PhDCourtney Beard, PhD, is a clinical psychologist with expertise in anxiety disorders, cognitive biases,cognitive behavior therapy, and treatment outcome research. She is assistant director of the clinicalresearch program atMcLeanHospital’s Behavioral Health Partial (BHP)Hospital Program. Dr. Beard'sresearch aims to delineate cognitive mechanisms underlying psychiatric disorders and to developtreatments to target these mechanisms. She is internationally known for her work on cognitive biasmodification.Shedevotesmuchofhertimetosupervisingandmentoringstudentsandtrainees.Dr.Beardhasasmallprivatepracticefocusedondeliveringexposuretherapyforanxietydisorders.Dr.BeardisapastrecipientofanNIHPost-DoctoralFellowshipgrant,inwhichshetestedacognitivebiasmodification(CBM)computerizedtreatmentforsocialanxietydisorder.HercurrentNIMHfundedR34projectaimstodevelop a transdiagnostic, personalized, online cognitive bias modification treatment for anxietydisorders,aswellasthemethodsforprimarycarepracticestoprescribeanddeliverthistreatment.
