MAGAZINE DESIGN WITH INDESIGN, PART 3 OF 3

    Step 1

Open the Adobe InDesign publication file we saved from the second part of the tutorial. Goto the back cover (page 4) and use the e!t tool to add a title using the same font we used

for the titles on page ". I used #osewood. $reating two separate te!t bo!es enables us to

move each line to where we want with a %election tool& instead of having to move it word'

    processor stle.

    Step 3

%elect the photo of the woman blowing the bubbles. Open the e!t ,rap palette

(,indow*e!t ,rap). $lick the third'from'left option at the top so the te!t will wrap around

our photo. 1ormall the te!t will wrap around the entire photo. 2ut since this photo is

overe!posed and has a lot of white area in it we can have te!t& let0s have the te!t wrap morespecificall around the subect in the photo instead of the entire photo. $hange the $ontour

    Options to Detect 3dges.

    Step 4

the %election tool and add a te!t wrap on the e!t ,rap palette. %elect the third'from'left

option at the top. ,e also want to get rid of the lines where onl a word or two is& on the right

side of the woman. %o move the photo over to the right a little bit to push the te!t out of thatarea.

    Step 6

One downside of using the Detect 3dges $ount Option on the e!t ,rap palette is that it

mabe allow te!t in areas ou don0t want it to be. or the photo of the woman blowing

bubbles& the white area shown here has let an a5 letter in there.

    Step 7

6et0s fi! that. One wa to do that is to create an obect7such as a circle here7and add a

te!t wrap to it on top of the area we don0t want te!t.

    Step 8

6et0s add a pull 8uote to one of the articles. Go to page 9 and off to the side use the e!t

tool to add a 8uote. $hange the font si:e of the actual 8uote and have the source of the

    Step 9

Add a te!t wrap to this te!t bo!& using the same option as the other te!t wraps.

    Step 10

1e!t& click'and'drag the te!t bo! with the %election tool over an area of te!t. +lacing it on the

edge somewhere prevents it from creating awkward short te!t sections such as would

happen with placing it slightl off the side of the page.

    Step 11

here0s a little too much white space here between the pull 8uote and the article. i! that b

clicking'and'dragging the sides of the te!t wrap. ;ou can move the line or ust a corner. hisenables the te!t to get closer to the pull 8uote.
