Pastor’s Message ~ Mensaje del Párroco: IDENTIDAD EQUIVOCADA La gente encuentra difícil de aceptar algunas de las ense-ñanzas de Jesús. Algunos de los discípulos mencionados en el Evangelio de hoy no son excepción. No pueden aceptar lo que Jesús ha dicho refiriéndose a sí mismo como el pan de vida y por eso se alejan. A menudo se oye la frase: “No soy una persona religiosa, pero sí soy muy espiritual”. En ese caso la persona o bien ha rehusado una vida de fe o no ha entendido de qué se trata una vida de fe y está en busca de significado y consuelo emocional en otro lugar. Nosotros tenemos cierta responsabilidad en eso. La mejor manera de que la gente pueda reconocer a Jesús es por nuestro ejem-plo. Las pulseras con las iniciales “¿WWJD?” (“¿Qué haría Jesús?”, por sus siglas en inglés) se han hecho muy popula-res recientemente. Tal vez una mejor manera de decir esto sería: “¿Qué me pediría Jesús que hiciera?” La responsabili-dad no recae en Jesús sino en nosotros. Escuchemos y con-testemos la pregunta que hace Josué en la primera lectura de hoy: “Digan aquí y ahora a quién quieren servir . . . servi-remos al Señor” (Josué 24:15)

Gospel: JohN 6: 60-69 What a sad day it would be if some of our friends sud-denly turned against us because of our religious beliefs. Today's gospel story relates how many of Jesus' disciples left him. They could not accept his teaching that he him-self was the Bread of Life. They could not believe that his Body and Blood were the source of eternal life. So they turned their backs on him and returned to their old way of life. However, when Jesus asked the Twelve if they too would abandon him, Peter replied, "Master, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life." We too at times may find some of Jesus' teachings difficult. When that happens, we speak to him honestly in prayer and seek his help. 1.) Why is it sometimes difficult to practice our religious beliefs when others do not share them? 2.) How would you describe the way Jesus responds to the disciples who turn away from him? 3.) What teachings of Jesus have you had difficulties with at times? Who or what helped you to work out those difficulties?

Evangelio: JUAN 6: 60-69 Que triste sería si uno de nuestros amigos nos da la espal-da debido a nuestra religión. El evangelio de hoy relata la historia de como muchos de los discípulos de Jesús lo deja-ron. Ellos no podían aceptar su enseñanza de que él es el Pan de Vida. Ellos no podían creer que el Cuerpo y la Sangre fueran la fuente de vida eterna. Así que se fueron y regresa-ron a su vida anterior. Sin embargo, cuando Jesús le pre-guntó a los Doce si ellos también lo iban a abandonar, Pe-dro contestó: "Maestro, ¿a quién iremos? Tú tienes palabra de vida eterna." Reflections ~ Reflexiones:

A LIFE WITH GOD People find some of Jesus’ teachings very hard to ac-cept. Some of the disciples mentioned in today’s Gospel are no exception. They could not accept what Jesus had just said about himself as the bread of life, so they left. We often hear, “I’m not religious, but I am very spiritual.” Either the person has seen and rejected a life of faith, or has not understood what a life of faith requires and is seeking meaning and emotional comfort elsewhere. We bear some responsibility for this. The best way for people to recognize Jesus is through our example. Bracelets inscribed with the letters WWJD? (What Would Jesus Do?) have become very popular recently. Perhaps a bet-ter way to say this is “What Would Jesus Have Me Do?” The responsibility is not on Jesus but on us. Like Joshua in today’s first reading. “Decide today whom you will serve . . . we will serve the LORD” (Joshua 24:15). Copyright © 2011, World Library Publications. All rights reserved.

For your Information: Missionary Cooperation Plan: Today’s second collection is for the Missionary Cooperation Plan. Each year the Archdiocese of San Francisco in-vites missionaries to come and share with us the work of the Gospel being accomplished in the Missions. This weekend, Fr. Rolando Panesa is preaching at all our Masses. Fr. Ro-lando Panesa is from the Missionaries of Faith. The money collected goes specifically to each diocese or reli-gious community making the appeal in the parish. The Missions depends upon your generous support. If you have any ques-tions, please call Loy at the Parish Office: (415) 333-7630x 15. GOD’S WORD TODAY Decisions. Life is filled with them. Deci-sions are presented in the first reading and Gospel proclaimed today. The Israel-ites are asked to choose whether or not they will continue to serve the Lord, the God of Israel. In voicing their choice to continue serving the Lord, they call to mind all the wonderful things that God had done for them. The disciples in to-day’s Gospel reading are also faced with a choice. Many choose to turn away from Jesus because his invitation to eat his body and drink his blood is too hard a saying. Peter and the Twelve, when asked if they, too, would abandon Jesus respond, “Master, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.” We, in a way, repeat these words every time we come to Mass, for in fact there is nowhere else we can go to be fed by the body and blood of the Lord and hear words that will bring us eternal life. TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE:

Según la creencia de los aztecas, tolte-cas y otros indígenas, los niños y las niñas nacen sin rostro y corazón. Co-rresponde a la familia formar en ellos y ellas el rostro (la personalidad), y el corazón (ánimo/ motivación) durante los primeros siete años de su vida. Rostro y corazón son una combi-nación para hablar de un tercer aspec-to. En este caso rostro y corazón indi-can la persona bien formada. Los jud-íos de la época de Jesús también usa-ban ciertas palabras para indicar otras realidades. Cuerpo y sangre, por ejem-plo, indican a la persona en su totali-dad. El cuerpo muestra el carácter de la persona, mientras que la sangre in-dica su ánimo o motivación. Cuando Jesús nos invita a comer su Cuerpo y beber su Sangre nos está invitando a tomar su rostro y corazón. Nuestra personalidad debe ser como la suya y nuestra motivación también. De esta manera entramos en íntima co-munión con él, a quien comulgamos.
