WELCOME THE STRANGER We have become accustomed to seeing pictures in the media and stories on the news about immigrants from Latin America and refugees from Syria fleeing violence and destruction in their own countries, trying to make their way to a safe place. We have also seen the reactions of people who want to keep them away from their countries, who fail to welcome the stranger and the helpless children. Have we forgotten Jesus call to com-fort the homeless and the stranger? They shall bring all your brothers and sisters from all the nations . . . to
Jerusalem, my holy mountain, says the LORD. In the three readings for this day, we are told that we are to welcome these strangers, to welcome the
discipline of the Lord, which leads to peace, and to strive to enter through the narrow gate into the glory of God's own homeland, the reign of God.

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
The wonderful diversity of life and worship among Roman Catholics of East and West is an example of God writing straight with crooked lines. The steady hand of the villainous Emperor Diocletian drew a line across Europe and Africa that split the empire
in two, and for the most part determined how Christians would worship two thousand years later. Italy's heel and the far northern city of Trieste fell on the Eastern side, and have had a form of East-ern liturgy ever since. Constantinople, which soon became the seat of the Roman Empire, became a base for Christianizing the East up to Russia and Poland. Poland was on the Eastern side, but a se-
ries of wars and medieval mayhem pushed the reli-gious boundary back to the Ukraine, and Poland
remains an outpost of the Latin Church to this day. An old rule of thumb declared that whatever reli-gion was observed by the local prince, the people had to follow. This gave rise to persecution and
migration as people sought toleration for their ex-pressions of faith. In the United States, we are ac-customed to peaceful collaboration among Chris-tians of East and West, a situation that challenges

Suy Niệm: “Thầy đến đem lửa xuống thế gian và Thầy mong muốn ngọn lửa
được bừng cháy lên.” Kính thưa quý ông bà và anh chị em, Trước hết,Chúa Giê-su khẳng định "Thầy đến mang lửa cho thế gian và Thầy ước mong lửa ấy bùng lên và thắp sáng khắp mọi nơi!” Lửa mà Chúa Giê-su đã đem vào trần gian là lửa yêu thương bác ái. Lửa mà Chúa Giê-su đã đem vào trần gian đó chính là Thánh Thần Ngôi Ba Thiên Chúa. Đồng thời, Chúa Giê-su báo trước cho các môn đệ biết là Người sẽ phải chịu đau thương và chịu chết treo trên cây thập tự giá để cứu chuộc nhân loại, và sau cùng Chúa Giê-su quả quyết sự có mặt của Người không đem lại sự bình an,bởi vì sự ghen tương, ganh tỵ quyền hành chức tước của các nhà cầm quyền, các vị trưởng lão, và những người chống đối người. Vì thế, sẽ khiến mỗi một người phải chọn lựa cho chính mình tin nhận Thiên Chúa, hoặc chối từ Người (do đó có sự chia rẽ). Vũ trụ này phải được soi sáng và hướng dẫn bằng lửa tình yêu Thiên Chúa. Nếu trong gia đình, ngoài xã hội, nơi các hội đoàn, trong các giáo xứ, và nhân loại có lửa tình yêu Thiên Chúa sẽ không đi trong bóng tối tội lỗi băng giá, nhưng có sức sống, niềm tin, và ánh sáng. Tình yêu Thiên Chúa và tình yêu cho những kẻ khốn cùng là ngọn lửa mà chúng ta cần tung ném khắp nơi. Để ngọn lửa ấy sẽ bùng cháy và cảnh khổ sẽ tan biến đi . Vì Chúa là sự hiệp nhất và yêu thương.
Lọc lừa tay trắng sạch hơn Chúa dạy cho thấy thiệt hơn trên đời Khôn ngoan nhớ lấy một lời Chúa là tất cả trên đời hư vô.
Lạy Chúa, xin ban cho chúng con biết bỏ đi thế giới riêng rẻ, sự ích kỷ cá nhân, sự ghen tương ganh tị, vì đó chính là nguyên nhân mang đến đông giá trong tâm hồn và sự chia rẽ trong gia đình và những người chung quanh. Xin đốt lửa yêu mến Chúa và yêu mến tha nhân trong tâm hồn của mỗi người chúng con. Để ngọn lửa yêu thương và sự hiệp nhất được lan tỏa khắp nơi.

Thật là đầy khích lệ vì lòng yêu thương của tất cả quý cộng đoàndân Chúa đã dành cho tôi. Xin Chúa tình yêu luôn đổ tràn lửayêu thương xuống cho quý ông bà và anh chị em. Cũng xin tiếptục cầu nguyện cho tôi và Quý Cha để hăng say phục vụ cho Chúa và nhất là cho cộng đoàn St. Martin của chúng ta.

TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE Hay quienes quieren negar los derechos de los inmigrantes latinos que llegan a los Estados Unidos en busca de una vida mejor. Esta injusticia es extraña ya que los hispanos llegamos al territorio estadounidense en 1513, 73 años antes de la llegada de los primeros an-glosajones. Estos fueron Ponce de León y compañeros quienes buscaban una mejor vida en la famosa fuente de la juventud. Eventualmente los hispanos dejaron de buscar la ilusoria fuente y en 1565 en la fiesta de san Agustín (28 de Agosto), Pedro Menéndez de Avilés fundó la primera ciudad en Florida. Gracias a su santo patrón esta ciudad ha podido sobrevivir ataques de invasores británicos y piratas, amenazas de huracanes y tempestades para convertirse en la ciudad más vieja de la Unión Americana. ¿Pero quien fue este santo? Agustín, fue un obispo africano, quien después de una vida desordenada se convirtió en uno de los santos mas importantes de la Iglesia, gracias a las oraciones continuas de su madre santa Mónica. Thank you to all the volunteers who helped clean the picnic area, with set up and clean up, preparation of the food, monitoring the flow of food, serving the food, cooking the hamburgers, hotdogs and chicken, assembly of the “pabitin” .
