COLLECTIONS FOR THE WEEK ENDING AUGUST 19th Offertory $15,039 | Online $2,633 | Total $17,672

+ My dear parishioners and friends:

Thank you for your very generous outpouring of kindness and support last weekend. I was called upon to

deliver one of the toughest homilies I have ever given, but each and every hug from you and all those

words of affirmation gave me a little more strength and courage. I am also very thankful for your prayers.

I wish you could know how much. Many of you said, “This too shall pass.” That is true, but I want you to

know that while I am here at Saint Elizabeth’s, I will give my all to protect every member of our commu-

nity, from the youngest to the oldest. Father Carlos, Father Vincent, Deacon Andy, Deacon Steve, and I

are all fierce defenders of faith, truth, and integrity!

I also want to thank you for your very kind support of another fine priest, Father Leo Shea, the Maryknoll Missionary who visited us two

weekends ago. Many of you told me how much you enjoyed Father Leo’s homily about his experiences and missionary work. Thank you

for your financial support of him and his confreres, which will allow them to continue to serve God and those in their care in very mean-

ingful ways.

You may be interested to know that we have a new member on our Finance Council. Don Hart has agreed to be part of our team. He and

his wife Bobbie have been active parishioners here for 34 years. Don helped to raise funds in 1990 for the construction of our current

church building. He has been involved in Cornerstone and Pre-Cana for years and more recently has volunteered for our St. Martin’s

Kitchen and Food Van ministries. I take this moment to express my gratitude to Rich Keenan (whom Don will succeed) for his many

years of service on our council. We have set up a rotation in which every year one member will come off the Finance Council and a new

one appointed. In total we have six Finance Council members plus our two trustees: Al Daloisio and Diane Ulrich.

The trustees are key members of the civil corporation of the parish. They serve as advisors to the pastor. Their duties are fiduciary and

require responsibility for the care and preservation of the temporalities and property of the parish. Along with the Parish Finance Coun-

cil, the trustees play an active role in the review of our annual budget.

While I am thinking of the well-being of our parish, I want to make sure that you are all receiving the email blasts letting you know that

we have a new video posted on our website each week. I hope you are seeing them and enjoying the fantastic job that all my interviewees

are doing each week. I am discovering that we have a lot of natural talent in the parish! If for some reason, you are not receiving our

weekly emails, please check in at the Parish Center to make sure they have your correct email address. We enjoy staying in touch with

you.

Speaking of staying in touch, we have special devices in the sacristy that can assist those who are having a hard time hearing at Mass.

Recently, I was able to give one of these devices to a woman who attends daily Mass. She told me that it was a HUGE improvement.

Now she can hear everything! If you would like to take advantage of this, please don’t hesitate to stop by the sacristy and ask for one.

We would be delighted to help you with this.

Finally, I survived turning 51 years old this past week! My birth certificate may officially state this as a reality, however, I am happy to

tell you that my spirit and energy are somewhere back in my 30’s! I had a few wonderful celebrations with family and friends, but I am

especially thankful for your often humorous and always warm birthday greetings to me personally. I thank you for your great friendship

and the special gift of your love. We have many, many special days ahead together as a parish. I know we are going to treasure each one!

Yours in the Risen Lord,

By providing pastoral care, catechesis, and funding for building renovations, your donations help to restore the Church and build the future in the aftermath of Soviet rule. Please be generous to the Collection for the Church in Central and Eastern Europe. Visit www.usccb.org to learn more about the

Memorials for the week of August 26th

Candles on the Altar, in memory of James Lowry, in celebration of his daughter Elizabeth and her new son Charles Angle, is given by his loving family.

Prayer Chain: Become a link in our prayer chain! Once a month a list of those who would like to be remembered in prayer will be mailed to you. The praying is done at home with respect for the confidentiality of those seeking prayer. With prayer, all things are possible. If you would like to join our prayer chain, or have someone prayed for, please contact Lisa at the Parish Center 201-891-1122 ext. 211.

Religious Items: If you are in need of a gift or rosaries or other religious items, please stop by the Parish Center to see what is available.

Hosting Our Lady of Fatima Pilgrim Statue: St. Elizabeth's parish has 5 traveling statues of Our Lady of Fat-ima. For over 20 years, Our Blessed Mother's statues have been traveling from home to home visiting with our fami-lies. Although this ministry began with a single statue, it has grown to 5 statues. Hosting families have found strength and comfort through Our Lady’s presence. How pleased Our Blessed Mother must be to be welcomed into our homes and to bestow her many blessings upon her chil-dren! As you may know, Our Lady of Fatima asked Lucia, Jacinta, and Francisco to pray the Rosary daily, and to do penance

for the salvation of souls. And today, to you and me, Our Lady's message is the same. And so, while the Blessed Mother is in your home, we ask that you try to pray the Holy Rosary (or other devotional prayers to Our Lady) and to perform oth-er tokens of love for the salvation of souls. If you are not currently a host and would like to have Our Lady of Fatima Pilgrim

Statue visit your home in 2019, please contact Kathy Marsico on 201-485-7052 or

[email protected]. The 2019 itineraries for Our Blessed Mother are currently

being developed, so please call as soon as you can to book your week with Our La-

dy.
