Pastor’s Letter August 26/27 Dear Parish Family, It was soon after I arrived at Sacred Hearts that a small group of women requested a meeting with me. They were Mary Steinbrecher, Pat Corrigan, and Joan Heinz. They told me of the long history of the August tent party and how much they would like to see that tradition revived. They were very kind to me and very considerate of the fact that I was new to Sacred Hearts. I can also tell you that every pastor knows when they are dealing with a FORCE and that there is really only one thing to say and that is “Yes, you have my complete support.” And so the tent party was revived in the summer of 2013 and we honored Mary who had passed away not long after that amazing meeting with me. This year the tradition continues and I want you to join me in honoring Pat and Ed Corrigan and Joan Heinz. They are tireless and generous supporters of SHJM and it is good for us to remember how their energy and inspiration has kept this great tradition alive. Pat and Joan continue to watch over the progress of our plans each year and provide us with great advice and know-how. Ed and sons Maurice (Mo) and Ed are always the first to volunteer with every project we do. The foundations of our restrooms and other In Nomine Domini renewal projects as well as the landscaping around the new additions are all results of their work and expertise. Each winter they rescue us when the deepest snow falls. I cannot thank them enough for all they have done for Sacred Hearts! Thanks to our founders for inspiring this wonderful event!

Sincerely yours in Christ,

Rev. Michael A. Vetrano,

Founders

Reflections On the Gospel

August 27, 2017

In Sunday’s first reading, God overthrows the master of the palace for abuse of authority and replaces him with someone who will be more a father than a boss. In the Gospel, Jesus gives authority to Peter who is better known for making mistakes than being a leader. This certainly turns our common image of authority on its head, but don’t be misled. God is not choosing a bumbling fool over a strong commander. God is choosing someone with openness, humility, enthusiasm, and faith—however faltering—over someone who is rigid, arrogant, hateful, and cruel. At first, God’s choice may be surprising, but it actually makes perfect sense. As St. Paul wrote to the Romans: Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How inscrutable are God’s judgments and how unsearchable God’s ways!

Our Lady of the Hamptons

The 2017-18 school year will begin on September 6 for the students of

OLH. This will mark the beginning of the thirty-fifth anniversary year of

the regionalization of the school. Families are invited to explore the options of late enrollment in the

East End’s premier Catholic elementary school for this year. Limited placement is still available in

Kindergarten as well as in grade 4. Admission to the Prep program (grades 6-8) is available after

personal interviews and evaluation.

Save the date for the first of several events to celebrate the thirty-fifth anniversary of the

regionalization of Our Lady of the Hamptons: a gala Dinner Dance at the Muses in Southampton on

October 28. Ticket information will be available soon.

The community of Our Lady of the Hamptons is extending an invitation for families with three and

four year old children to consider giving their children the best possible start in Catholic education at

the OLP Pre-school. Pre-school is an important first step in the educational process. An all new,

revitalized program for three and four year old students is offered at the campus of St. Rosalie’s

Church in Hampton Bays and is an integral part of Our Lady of the Hamptons. A new team of

teachers, including one bi-lingual instructor, will be ready to embrace new students.

Classes begin soon and there is great

availability of placement especially

on the three year old program. Tours

and conferences leading toward

admission can be arranged now.

Informational packets are available.

Call 631-283-9140 to set up a

personal appointment and tour. More

information is available on the
