The Very Reverend Peter Anthony Crivello was born on July 1, 1960 in Monterey. He is the son of Frank and Mary Crivello and brother of Joseph and Providence Crivello. His Father Frank, a native of Trapani, Sicily, came to Monterey 1951 and his mother Mary, was a native of Monterey. His maternal grandparents with his great grandparents came to Monterey 1917. Father Peter attended Monterey public schools and completed his studies at Monterey Peninsula College in 1981. He was then employed by the Federal Government with the Social Security Administration. In January 1985 he was accepted by the Diocese of Monterey for priestly formation. He attended Saint Joseph’s College Seminary, graduating in 1988 as the class valedictorian. In September of 1987 he served as acolyte for the Papal Mass held at Laguna Seca during the Second Pastoral Visit to the United States of his Holiness

St. John Paul II. He attended Saint Patrick's Seminary in Menlo Park for his graduate theological studies and was ordained to the priesthood for Jesus Christ on June 12, 1993. His ordination was celebrated at his home parish, the San Carlos Cathedral of Monterey. Father Peter has served in four parishes, two as associate pastor, St. Patrick's in Watsonville and Holy Cross Parish in Santa Cruz. After only four years of priestly ministry he was appointed pastor of Resurrection Parish in Aptos, where he led the building of a new church which was completed in 2002. Bishop Sylvester Ryan appointed him Vicar General of the Diocese of Monterey in 2003. He still serves in that capacity and remains a part of Bishop Garcia's Administration Team. Father Peter served as Pastor at San Carlos Cathedral 2004-2016. He led the Conservation Project to preserve the historic Royal Presidio Chapel / San Carlos Cathedral which was on the endangered list of United States historical sites. Developing both local enthusiasm and working with consultants from different parts of the United States, the Cathedral was retrofitted and restored in 2009 after years of preparation and almost two years of monumental work to preserve its cultural and religious legacy. First and foremost, Father Peter enjoys being a pastor and his heart lies in the building up of the spiritual and communal life of the parish and has facilitated the growth of ministries and programs. In addition, he has served on a variety of committees in the Monterey Diocese. He believes it is important to encourage members of a parish to use their gifts, talents and resources, creating a dynamic parish community where all are welcome to celebrate, learn and reach out to others in the name of Jesus Christ. He looks forward to collaborating with the different ministries. He is especially grateful for collaboration of the different organizations that support the mission of the parish and is inspired by the generosity of those who have helped the parish to reach out to the hungry and homeless, and all those who come to the parish in need. Fr. Peter is grateful to God and to Bishop Garcia’s generosity in appointing him to Saint Angela Merici Parish. He is excited to begin as Pastor at Saint Angela Merici and looks forward to getting to know the Saint Angela Merici community, and working together in the Mission of our Good Shepherd, Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Have ever you thought about being an Altar Server?

This wonderful ministry of adults and young people who help around the Altar Masses, assisting the

presider during our liturgies, might be waiting for you to join!

I first met Ms. Paula when she directed a choral reading that I did during the Advent Season. She talked to me about being an altar server and suggested I try it. I thought it was a great way to learn more about the Mass and why we do

the things that we do during Mass. I also thought it could help strengthen my relationship with God. Once I had served a few times and began to feel really comfortable and confident in my duties. I was able to focus more on the readings and the homily – much more than I ever had before I began serving. My absolute favor ite thing about being an

altar server is feeling a greater relationship to God and to the Saint Angela Community. It’s fun to attend church and know

many people and have them know me.

-Lillian, 7th Grade Server

Being an altar server is like prayer to me. It is one way in which I give back to the St. Angela family and to God for all I’ve been given. Service during Mass provides a link for me… to God, to the community, and to my own soul – which often suffers from lack of attention! I’ve been a parishioner of St. Angela Merici for 20+ years – journeyed with my 3 boys through RCIA, First Communion, Confirmation; found nourishment for me own path through various ministries, formed deep connections with mentors and friends, and how grown in my fragile, fumbling faith each and every day.

The short and sweet of it is that I enjoy being of service – I enjoy making the priest’s job a little easier, sharing my faith by doing the best I can in my role. I love singing prayers lifting up to God like incense on Easter Vigil night. Being an

Altar Server is a sacred duty in my opinion…an offering of love…and yes, a job. It’s a job that deserves to be done wholeheartedly and conscientiously – as much for one’s own self as for God, the priest, and our church family.

-Ximena, Adult Server

Altar Serving has a different meaning for each and every person who serves their God in church. This is my reason. I have been altar serving at St. Angela Merici for almost 8 years. I was asked what altar serving means to me and why I like most about it. But to be honest, if I were to tell you what the church and what God means to me, I would probably be here for a very long time. That’s how much altar serving means to me. There’s no way I can explain it in a

small amount of time, because it’s my whole life, my world. It’s the only thing that I have ever truly known how to do best. So, I do it as much as I can. And coming to church each weekend means I’m committed to God and his life. And he knows I am committed. Knowing that makes me want to be with Him forever. When I am altar serving, I feel like I

am closer to Him, connected with Him. Like He is calling me. I am an altar server because I think this is what God wanted me to do. He wanted me to follow Him in his footsteps, be a guide to me towards my future. And so far, he

has done that for me.

-Lily, 10th Grade Server

We hope to see you at the meeting and new server training at 1:30pm in the Church, on Sunday, October 6th, 2019. For further information or questions, please call Paula at
