St. Mark’s Parish Outreach

It’s Time For Us To Think About School Supplies!!

As in years past, our Outreach Ministry requests donations of necessary school items

for our families in need in our community. The long lists the parents receive from school put

a real strain on their budgets. If you are able, your donation of any of these items would be

greatly appreciated.

Your contributions will be gratefully accepted any time now. Use the bin at the en-

trance of church! Thank you, and God bless you!

Please deposit any gift cards in the collection baskets after Mass,

or bring them to the Parish Office.

Spiral notebooks (one subject and multiple

subjects)

Jane & Outreach Volunteers

Calling all teens!

The parishes of St. John the Baptist and

St. Mark are looking for teens who would

like to help out in both parishes. We

know you need service hours for many

things (Confirmation, National Honor

Society, Junior National Honor Society,

Scouts, college applications) and we

would love for you to be involved in parish life.

Every year we need help with big projects like the Thanksgiving and

Christmas drives working with Outreach; but we also can offer oth-

er opportunities. Young folks can be lectors, Eucharistic Ministers,

choir members, altar servers, and ushers. You can also serve as

helpers and instructors in religious formation.

We also could use help in smaller parish projects, such as helping

with facilities: matching keys with doors at St. Mark, pruning over-

grown shrubs, mulching, spring and fall clean-ups, painting, holiday

decorating, etc. We also hope to create programs for teens to

work with seniors and the needy. We would welcome individuals or

groups of friends wanting to work together. And we hope to offer

prayer and retreat opportunities, as well as social events.

If interested, please contact

Dr. Jeff Pedersen at [email protected].

We look forward to serving with you!

2021 Girl Scout Project Update: Torre Parrinello

Over the past 8 months, Torre Parrinello refurbished the gar-dens that we pass each week on our way from the parking lot to church as part of earning her Girl Scout Gold Award. She gives special thanks to Fa-ther Frank for his guidance and support along with Father Len (who she talked with at the be-ginning of the project).

The refurbishment included planting daffodil and crocus bulbs that bloomed this past spring (that she hopes the deer will not eat!); cleaning up the gardens and statues; and scrap-ing and repainting the pealing benches. In addition, approxi-mately 500 rocks were collect-ed, cleaned and painted, many with inspirational words.

Especially during the pandemic, she hopes this project will give us all a little outdoor space where we can pray, enjoy nature, be inspired and inspire others. If anyone would like to add inspiration-al rocks to the gardens, please feel free to be creative (and be sure to use acryl-ic paints with a clear polyurethane coat to help preserve them). Torre said she counts herself extremely blessed to be a part of such a wonderful Parish and faith-filled community.

Thank you to all those who have supported our Hymnal Drive

through memorializing hymnals. At this time, all of our 550

hymnals and 40 choir hymnals have been sponsored.

However, we have a sizeable deficit in the cost of the project

(almost $2000). If you wish to support the Hymnal Drive through

a donation, this will be greatly appreciated and a help to our par-

ish as we struggle to meet our parish expenses.

We welcome into our parish and our parish

community of St. Mark the following children,

who were baptized this month,

Violet Eileen Bruckbauer

Hailee Reign Gutierrez

Christopher John Seckel

Liam Mark Smith

Outreach Requests

Next weekend is Food Donation Weekend. Our pantry is in need of all non-perishable items.

Thank you for your continued generosity!

Many thanks to our St. Mark’s family for all the school supplies you have provided.

They are greatly appreciated.

As summer draws to a close

over the next weeks of

August, the parish family

looks at the future and

developing a Pastoral Plan for

the parish.

The Pastoral Council has met twice during the summer

and will reconvene in September. The Council’s main

responsibility is to assist the pastor in listening to the

needs of the parish and Pastoral Planning.

Feel free to speak with the members of the Council

and share your hopes for the future of our parish!

Registration for 2021-2022 Now Underway!

Registration Forms Available on the Website (under “Faith Formation”!)

Our Faith Formation registration for the 2021-22 Catechetical year is underway. All current families, and any new families who have contacted the Faith Formation Office, have been sent the registration forms. A mailing just went out to families whose children were baptized in our parish six years ago, and would now be ready to begin the two years of preparation to receive the sacraments of Reconciliation and the Eucharist. We welcome anyone new to our parish and any families whose children will be entering first grade in September. Please contact the Faith Formation Office to obtain the necessary information at [email protected] or 631 821-0550. Faith Formation registration fees and sacrament offerings for First Eucharist and Confirmation can be paid on our secure website: stmarkshoreham.org We are always happy to hear from everyone and assist them in any way that we can.

Are you new to the parish of St. Mark?

Do you have a child (or grandchild) going into First Grade? We invite any families whose children will be entering first grade in September to

register their children for our Faith Formation classes. Children prepare to receive

the sacraments of Reconciliation and the Eucharist over two years by participating in

our Levels 1 and 2.

To register your child please go to our website: stmarkshoreham.org where you will

find the registration forms, and also where you can complete your registration by

paying the fee under online giving.

Please contact the Faith Formation Office at [email protected] or 631 821-0550

with any questions. We invite all parishioners to spread the word to any families you

know whose children will begin first grade in September.

Feel free to spread the word to your neighbors!

ST. MARK’S KIOSK MINISTRY

As we move on our journey of life, it’s important that we all take some time to see where we’ve been, where we are now, and where we are headed. No matter our ages, we are all called by our Lord to “know Him more clearly, follow Him more nearly, and to love and to serve Him more dearly” every day of our lives. Our pur-pose in life is to grow – to grow more closely to our Lord. The kiosk is like a tool box. It offers us ways to grow in knowledge of our faith, to clear away our fears and doubts. It feeds our minds and hearts with good. Do you want or need to find some guidance in your faith? Do you want to be fed? Two cds we would like to recommend this week are CAN YOU TRUST GOD? by Dr. Tim Gray, a scripture scholar, who takes us on a journey to address the temptations we may encounter sometimes to mistrust the love that God the Father has for us. Have you ever asked God “why” when things don’t go the way we think they should?

Thank you to all our

parish volunteers who

have re-registered and

updated their

information on the

virtus.org website!

We invite all new members of our parish community to register at the Parish Office.

Becoming a Catholic or Adult Confirmation

Are you interested in becoming Catholic? Were you never Confirmed and now

find that you would like to complete your Sacraments of Initiation? Are you

interested in finding out more about the Catholic faith? If you answered “Yes”

to any of these questions, then Faith Formation is for you! Call the Parish Cen-

ter for more information.

Baptism

Baptisms are celebrated on the third Saturday of the month at 1:00 p.m.

Parents are encouraged to register for the baptism before the birth of your

Many parents also use this opportunity to register in the Parish as a new pa-

rishioner.

Marriage

We are happy to arrange for your wedding. First, we have the marriage inter-
