Among the topics discussed included having some fund raisers to help pay for the rectory renovation. We decided to have bake sales on November 3 and December 8. We will have Euchre tournaments on February 9 and March 16 (including sloppy joes and chips to eat). We discussed the parish survey that will be done by CARA (Center for Applied Research in the Apostolate from Georgetown University). Deacon Ed Harwood is checking out various items in this to see what will work best for our cluster parishes. The deficit for Divine Providence Academy for last fiscal year was $61,344.33. St. Catherine’s and St. Francis need to repay St. Joseph’s. The money came from St. Joseph’s savings. St. Francis’ portion is 18% or approximately $11,041.00. We will divide that into three parts and add it to the following three years’ of Catholic Services Appeal. Property cleanup was scheduled for October 6 with a rain date of October 13. It was noted that Sunday collections for July and August 2018 are up $2,836.00 over the same period last year. We are still looking for someone to rent the rectory. 2) The priests’ convocation was held at Shanty Creek Lodge this year (September 24 27). We had a great turnout of priests both diocesan and order priests. The speaker was excellent. He is a permanent deacon and spoke to us about better management of meetings as well as how to manage our own schedule. I was pleasantly pleased that I am already doing many of the things he suggested. He has done this kind of work for many years at the telephone company and has translated, if you will, the principles for parish use. It was good to see a lot of priests I don’t run into during the year. We had time to visit and catch up. 3) St. Joseph’s 40 Hours devotion in thanksgiving for our harvest will be Friday through Sunday, October 26 28 with Solemn Closing at 4:00 PM on Sunday. Signup sheets for adoration are in each of the three churches in the vestibules. I am asking you to sign up for some time to spend in the quiet presence of the Lord. This year, we are focusing on the healing that our country and church need. Healing from the sex abuse scandal that is in both the church and our whole society as well as healing from all the rancor and anger that is exhibited by our country’s leaders and that filters down to the rest of us. Different pastors that I spoke with at the recent convocation said they are doing different things to pray for healing in our church and society. So, please sign up and let’s ask the Lord for the graces and blessings we need. This is a Cluster activity sponsored by St. Joseph’s so everyone is welcome from all three parishes. I love you, Fr.
