At the beginning of the year I acquired a strange idea. Twitter poems. I kicked

around a few ways to do it before settling on single tweet poems of 140 characters or less.

The first poem was broadcast on April 1, a fitting one youll see.

I thought it proper to use a hashtag in order to keep track of the poems. I settled

on #twitpoem. Even though other poets had beaten me to the idea and a #poetry hashtag

was already in place, my little experiment proved to be quite popular. Other poets soon

joined in, targeting #twitpoem with their own verses in addition to #poetry and #haiku.

I wasnt sure if anyone had constructed rules or guidelines for Twitter poems so I

came up with a few protocols for my own use. They consist of the following symbols:

/ = line break // = paragraph, or stanza, break

And that was about it. The poems were written as one line. But for this chapbook

I decided to break up the lines and stanzas so they could be seen as the poem was

intended. If you want to see the poems as submitted then youll have to visit

    http://hashtags.org and search for #twitpoem.

I have spared making adjustments to the poems despite their shortcomings. There

are a few (minor) places, however, where I couldnt resist. Please forgive me.

The reason for this chapbook is because I wanted to share the poems with a

broader audience. Feel free to pass it along to your friends. Distribute it widely. Just dont

sell it, please (like anyone would buy it anyway wink wink). And if you care to follow

me on Twitter youll find me at http://Twitter.com/WorldClassPoet . See you there.
