NEWSLETTER JULY 2014 Two for One – Out with the Red and in with the Blue Valda and Terry Tout had a tractor problem on their Hallsville dairy, only one tractor with a loader and an older tractor with reliability issues. There were days when swapping tractors on and off the mixer became a chore. The solution came in having two tractors that are identical in setup, horsepower, loader and tyre size. After much consideration two New Holland T5.105 Electro Command tractors were chosen. The new model T5 Electro Command series feature high efficiency common rail fuel systems for fuel savings and responsiveness and the 16Fx16R Electro Command transmission gives push button ease to operating the tractor both in the field and in the tight confines around the dairy. By having two tractors the same, flat tyres and breakdowns no longer means everything stops, just swap to the other machine and keep going while the other machine is brought back on line. The new cab on the T5 series, with the roof window, will assist greatly stacking hay in sheds and loading mixers. Challenge L3600 loaders with their clear visibility lines and reliability have been plumbed into the factory standard joystick and mid mount valve of the T5.105 – no more floor mounted 3rd party joystick setups. The Challenge 800kg 3pl Counterweight makes loader work safer and more stable and therefore more precise. CNH Industrial Capital offered attractive, easy finance and this complimented the competitive package pricing from New Holland. 3 Years/3,000 hours Service Plus warranty as standard provided peace of mind. The new BC5070 is fitted with a centralised hand pump lubricator to ensure knotters and other important components receive adequate lubrication with minimum service time. The new New Holland BC5070 baler has been coupled with a new Jadan 15 bale accumulator with folding table and lighting kit for safer road transport, as well as bale weight scales, enabling Leon to increase his productivity and efficiency. Dan needed an air conditioned cab and more horsepower than his current Workmaster 55 tractor which he has now traded, and narrow row crop requirements. The New Holland T4.75 delivers all this and more, with a roof visibility panel for loader operation, an air suspension seat and almost 2000 kg linkage lift capacity. Dan can now perform his contract mulching, spraying and slashing with comfort, safety and efficiency.

WEEDS With the recent showers you will have noticed that the weeds have popped up with a vengeance – reports from some farmers are indicating that it may be a bad year for Saffron Thistle – so get in and spray early, if the weeds are a bit bigger – double your water rate for better coverage and keep the chemical rate at the top of the label rate for your specific situation and weed.

How to know where you have sprayed – Foam Markers either single or double sided have been the standard for many years, adjustable foam output, needs refilling, sometimes messy, only last for a limited time. Or Basic GPS Guidance from New Holland PLM (Precision Land Management), similar accuracy to foam marker, works day and night, does not require filling, shows up misses and overlaps, can take you back to where you finished and can print out what you have done.

Just to keep you up to date: Frost over Barraba Arts Festival was held last week commencing with the Opening Night on Thursday 26th June and finishing on Sunday 29th June. This year a friend from my Art Class, Kate Cullen, and I decided to do one of the many Workshops that was on offer, so we booked into the “Drawing the Nude” workshop with Marilynne Barnes (note that is “Drawing the Nude” not “Drawing in the Nude”). The Workshop was about gestural drawing and drawing life forms and was very interesting and quite different to other drawing we had done. Marilynne was very patient

with her two “beginners”. She is an accomplished artist and also exhibited in the Frost Exhibition - receiving a Highly Commended for her drawing of a Flamenco Dancer, which was stunning. The winner of the New England Mutual Acquisitive Prize for Best Work of Art of $2,500 – was Maree Kelly for her work titled “Patchwork Lace”. All the Winners and Highly Commended can be seen on the official website www.frostoverbarraba.org.au Another of my other fellow Art students entered the Pottery Section and received two Highly Commended awards - Elaine Abberfield’s pottery is humourous and very clever. The work pictured is titled “Girls Night Out”.

Kate Rutter from Quirindi also exhibited this year and again sold a number of her quirky “Sheepish” drawings like this one titled “Scotch Thistle Rescue”.

I also entered a painting in the Novice Section of the

exhibition. This is my first painting and I was delighted the Judge had awarded me a

Highly Commended. I am pictured with my painting “the Lazy Verandah Chair” and behind me is the winner of this section “The Mann River - a Summer Sunset” by Terry McKean. My beautiful framing was done by Wayne and Shelley Schirmer at FrameSmart, Tamworth - so a big Thank

You to them for their efforts and enhancing the look of my work.

JOKE OF THE MONTH

The Truth is Revealed I know you have been lying awake at night wondering why baby diapers have brand names such as "Luvs", "Huggies," and "Pampers', while undergarments for old people are called "Depends". Well, here is the low down on the whole thing. When babies crap in their pants, people are still gonna Luv'em, Hug'em and Pamper'em. When old people crap in their pants, it "Depends" on who's in the Will! Glad I straightened that out for you!!
