Tynte Park

History

Tynte Park was built by the Tynte family in c.1835. The family owned the village of Dunlavin and large tracts of lands and their roots in the area trace as far back as the 16th Century. A notable member of the family was Miss Voilet Tynte who resided at Tynte Park until her death, at the age of 83, in 1963. She was renowned as a fierce horsewoman and noted player in international women’s golf. She was the driving force behind the formation of the Baltinglass Golf Club. In 1903 when the Gordon Bennett Cup Motor Race was held in a local estate, Miss Tynte was so impressed she went on to co-found the Royal Irish Automobile Club on Dawson Street.

Description

The Tynte Park Estate occupies the most wonderful position, sitting at a height overlooking its own parkland, the rolling hills of Wicklow and the mountains beyond. The essence of Tynte Park is not only the very fine house but the estate in which it sits. Tynte Park is a walled estate which is further protected by a band of mature woodland which includes oak, beech, copper beech and other specimen trees.

Over the last number of years the house has benefited from improvement works including replacing the floor in the dining room, relining all the fireplaces and replacing the boiler. The house has also been rewired and the most up to date alarm and fire alarm systems have been installed.

Location and Amenities

Co. Wicklow, known as the Garden of Ireland boasts unspoilt countryside with mountains, upland lakes, steep sided glacial valleys, forests, farmlands together with a wonderful coastline and sandy beaches. A wide range of amenities are close by, for golfers the well-known Baltinglass Golf Club is a mere 15 minutes’ drive. For racing enthusiasts, The Curragh, Punchestown and Naas Racecourse are all within a relative short drive. The horse riding enthusiast is well catered for within the estate itself and the county as a whole. There are nearby horse events throughout the year and the local hunts are the Kildare Fox Hounds, the West Wicklow Hunt and the South County Hunt which meet weekly during the season. There is good shopping close by at the Kildare Outlet Shopping Centre and the Whitewater Shopping Center in Newbridge, both a short drive. Dunlavin Village will provide all daily requirements and Blessington / Newbridge / Naas and Carlow for a bigger supermarket shop.

Coach Yard/American Barn

The walled stable yard has a two storey L-shaped building with 6 lofted stables, all with automatic drinkers. There are two double coach house doors giving access to the tack room, garden room and feed store. To the rear of the stable yard is found the American barn and also a row of single storey open fronted animal stalls. The American barn has a further 6 stables at one end and a lunging ménage at the other, both accessed by double height sliding doors.

The Lands

Take the N81 road and drive through Blessington, stay on the N81 passing a Top Oil Station on the right hand side and past the sign for Hollywood. Continue for 6.4 km and take a sharp right hand turn directly opposite the Old Toll House Pub, the road is sign posted L8316 / Boherboy. Drive for 2 km and take a left hand turn which is directly after a thatched cottage. Continue to the cross roads and the main entrance of Tynte Park is directly on the cross road.

From Dunlavin

Coming into Dunlavin from either Kilcullen or Naas, pass the Market Square House (in the centre of the road). Drive to the T-junction in the centre of the village with the Dunlavin Inn directly in front of you; take the left hand turn, continue out the R412 Baltinglass Road for 4 km. At the first cross roads Tynte Park is on the right hand side.
