Introduction

The aim of our campaign was to heighten the awareness of our wasteful consumerist culture and the way that this mentality can have a negative impact on not only the environment, but humanity by extension. It aimed to show people what our irresponsible disposal of our waste products can create, polluting something that has existed for thousands of years. This passing on of information was achieved using a colour palate of blues and whites, with minimal addition of yellow and green. The minimalist colour palate allowed for a fairly simplistic design that allowed the viewer to clearly see and understand the information given.

Video

The video that we have created is intended to act as a way in which we can relay to the general public the seriousness of the Great Pacific Concern. It utilises a fairly minimalistic design, allowing the information to be the focus of the video, with the images to back it up, rather then the images overtaking the main purpose of the video, to convey information. The sea themed background is paying homage to the topic of the video, with the images further enforcing this theme.

Facebook

This facebook page acts as a way for the community to become aware of local events around them, and see to it that they can have a positive effect on the environment. It allows people to access information on when the council clean up days are, so that disposal of larger objects may be done responsibly, and allows them to participate in community clean up days. It also contains helpful tips and tricks on how to dispose of you rubbish correctly and also how some of the things that we normally throw out can be given a new life and purpose, decreasing the amount of rubbish produced per household. It also features informative articles to broaden their understanding of the issue.

This is one of the posters that we have designed. It features the same colour scheme as both the video and the website. Minimalist information combined with a recognisable image creates a poster that is succinct and to the point. It conveys the information clearly and is memorable because of this fact. Further information on any of the information found in the posters may be found on our facebook account or website, links to which are at the bottom of all advertisements.

This poster conveys quite clearly the adverse effects that our littering ways can have not only on marine life but also upon us. The ingestion of toxic plastics by marine life is then passed on to us as we in turn consume them. This poster maintains the previously established colour palate and maintains the ‘less is more’ approach to its design. The use of a very commonly known phrase as the only information on the poster, ensures that the primary message is both received and understood by the viewer.
