Type V hypersensitivity reaction ●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●● ● This is an additional type of hypersensitivity reaction which is considered distinct from Type 2. ● Antibodies recognise and bind to cell surface receptors instead of binding to cell surface components. ● This prevents the intended ligand binding with the receptor or mimics the effects of the ligand, thus impairing cell signaling. ● Examples: 1) Graves' disease 2) Myasthenia gravis ● The use of Type 5 is rare. ● These conditions are more frequently classified as Type 2 Hypersensitivity reactions.
