• Crimes against people: acts that threaten, hurt, or ends a life– Assault: placing someone in fear w/out physical
contact– Battery: physical contact– Homicide: killing
Crimes Against Property
• Stealing:– Larceny: taking someone else’s property w/out
violence– Robbery: uses threat and/or violence– Burglary: breaks into bldg, plans on doing
something illegal inside– Arson: setting fire on purpose– Vandalism: purposely damaging property
White Collar Crime
• Nonviolent– Fraud: taking $ or property by cheating– Embezzlement: stealing $ entrusted in your care
Victimless Crime
• Hurt people who commit them (drugs & gambling)

• Treason: betrayal of one’s country• Terrorism: use violence to get gov’t/society to
meet demands
