Managers Profile: Name: Rob Ashworth

What is your football background?

Keen footballer who played at School level and then Sunday

League level.

How long have you been involved with Pennine Juniors?

I joined as assistant coach to Andy Booth at the end of last season

and when he left, became the manager of the team this year!

How long have you been managing a team?

First Season.

What do you like most about managing a team?

Being able to teach the players new skills, tactics, techniques and have them pick it all up

straight away.

What do you find challenging when managing a team?

Keeping the players focussed 100% of the time.

What has been your funniest/best/ most memorable moment?

Having Kai Feeney (Central Defender) turn up to a friendly with his shorts inside out AND

back to front and he didn’t notice until half way through the 2nd half.

Describe your team:

A sleeping giant. My team is full of players with so much ability and potential, they just need

to realise how good they are together as a team.

What are you focusing on in training?

Positional & Tactical play. They have the skills needed to be great footballers and they are

now working on their brains with tactics knowing where to be at all times.

Tell us the best game to date and why:

Home v Clarence. (Friendly Game) This was the first time I had the team all to myself and we

won 6-4 with some players playing in new positions for the first time. Everyone gelled very

well to say it was their first game together. A great performance.

What advice/tips would you give to young, up and coming footballers?

Don’t be afraid to play. If you want to run at a defender and express yourself. Then do it.

Match reports: Opponent: Unsworth Demons Date: 7th September 2013 Venue: Away Result: 8-2 (Lost) Match report: After a first half to forget for my lads (7-0 down at half time.) we rallied in the second half and looked a completely different team, some of the passing was a joy to behold which resulted in the goal of the game scored by Danny Devine. James Briggs won the ball in midfield and dribbled past a member of the opposition before playing a lovely pass into the feet of Macauley Stagg who held the ball up so well, fending off 2/3 Unsworth defenders. He then slid through a through ball to the advancing Daniel Devine who skipped past the last Unsworth defender and calmly finished the ball into the bottom corner. The opposition manager commented that it was one of the finest goals he’d seen at this level. We conceded another goal making it 8-1 one, but we rallied again and after Luke Pearson won the ball bravely in midfield and played a great pass to Macauley Stagg who outran the defence and scored passed the advancing Unsworth keeper. A notable mention goals to Nic Friend who played his first ever game in central defence partnering Brad Lowery (Team Captain). Nic had never played there before but he did EVERYTHING that was asked of him. Very brave in the tackle, won a lot of headers and played well.
