Staff Recognition Awards2018
This evening University College Cork honours staff members for their outstanding contributions to University life and the wider community. The individuals and teams to be presented with awards were nominated by colleagues for their exceptional and influential achievements and contributions.
14 Awards will be presented by the President, Prof. Patrick O’Shea, across six categories: The Frank McGrath Perpetual Award for Equality and Welfare, Impact, Leadership, Exceptional Citizen, Enhancing the Student Experience and Outstanding Colleague.

Teaching Excellence Awards 2018
UCC prides itself on being a student-centred university. This Awards scheme recognises the
outstanding efforts of teaching staff to ensure that UCC students receive the highest quality teaching
and learning experience. All UCC students, staff and alumni were invited to submit nominations for
these awards. We are delighted to have the opportunity to demonstrate our appreciation of the
efforts and commitment of our colleagues who are being presented this evening with the 2017/18
President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching.
Congratulations to all of the awardees and other nominees on the quality of their teaching, which
is at the very core of UCC’s mission.
The Office of the Vice President for Teaching & Learning would like to thank the awards’ selection
committee for its work in deciding these awards. The selection committee comprised of a
number of senior UCC staff, representation from the Students’ Union, and the Dean of Teaching
and Learning from Maynooth University.
The UCC President’s Awards for Excellence in Teaching is the longest established teaching
excellence recognition scheme of its kind in Ireland. Further details on the awards scheme are

Early-Stage Researcher of the Year – recognising early career research excellence and the potential for future outstanding performance

Research Communicator of the Year – recognising a researcher who has taken a proactive approach to sharing their research with the general public• Dr Theresa Reidy (Department of Government and Politics, College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences)
