Goals of the Webinar

● UC reviews and approves courses meeting the “a-g” subject requirements for UC and CSU freshman admission.

● A portion of those courses are

identified by the California Department of Education (CDE) as CTE courses.

● UC has approved some

141,000 high school courses, yet less than 200 are CTE-integrated courses in the “a-g” areas of English, math, and history.

UCCI Background

Expand opportunities for applied learning throughout California, so all students have access to college and career preparation.

UCCI Mission

• UCCI’s first program, the UCCI Institutes, launched in 2010.

• Funding provided by the state Career Technical Education Pathways Initiative (SB 70), and administered by the California Department of Education (CDE).

UCCI staff. ● Free to participants;

organized on demand. ● Courses have program

status. Teacher Exchange ● Preparation for teaching our

courses. ● Led by teachers for teachers. ● Customized to meet

participant needs.

UCCI Programs

● 35 courses currently on the UCCI course catalog

● 30 of these courses have been approved by local school boards and districts

● 98 California institutions of secondary education have UCCI courses on their course lists

• Launching new “a-g” database system February 2015

• Course Management Portal is being re-designed o Incentives for early submissions o Collaboration with UC Faculty to clarify

and update criteria o Development and distribution of course

evaluation rubrics aligning with criteria o Expanding the staff of UC Articulation

Analysts o Increasing availability of resources

Big Changes for 2015-2016

• Courses created at the UCCI Institutes, approved by UC, will still have program status

• More courses, faster

course approval, the ability to reach even more educators

Community College Courses

• August 4, 5, 6 • Skyline College, San Bruno, Ca

o Bay Area • Retail, Hospitality, and Tourism • Small Business/Entrepreneurship • Collaboration with: Math (“c”), Spanish

(“e”), and History (“a”) • 4-5 high school teachers per team -

goal is for teams to have a mix of high school, community college and CSU faculty

• Courses will be submitted immediately for approval

• Stipends available and travel costs • Teacher Exchange – January/February
