DivingWell
It’s time for coconut sunscreen and sandy flip-flops–-yes, summer is here. Children are rejoicing and ready for an adventure–-other than chasing down the ice-cream truck, of course. And what place could be more beautiful and fun-filled for spending your summer days than UCSB? The Department of Recreation offers several summer camps for kids, and these programs are an exciting and safe way to give your children a real treat–-while enjoying some time off yourself. The Department of Recreation is exceedingly proud of its summer camps and its history of excellence that is evident in both the lives of many participating families and the stellar accolades the camps receive. Just this past year, the department’s
Summer Day Camp was named the “Best Summer Camp” according to the Santa Barbara Independent’s reader’s poll. The Summer Day Camp is engaging and action-packed––the activities vary from swimming in the Recreation Center and Campus pool to braving the Ropes Adventure Course. While encouraging kids to get active and learn exciting new skills, the Summer Day Camp strives to teach children to respect and value others. The camp’s lead staff have a combined camp experience of over 100 years, and Summer Day Camp director Ray Robitaille will be coming back for his 34th summer. The summer camp staff are all CPR and First-Aid certified, and the Jr Lifeguards and Surf & Kayak Camp staff are certified beach lifeguards. In addition to pre camp orientations, all UCSB Department of Recreation staff must complete CANRA (Child Abuse Neglect & Reporting Act) training. All of these measures are taken to promote a comfortable environment for families as well as staff members. Consider joining us this summer for Summer Day Camp, Junior Lifeguards, Destination Science, Surf & Kayak Camp, Climbing Adventure for Kids or a Summer Family Recreation Center membership.
