PREFACEGiving Quality Education to all is very important in the wake of RTE 2009. As the

nodal agency for the implementation of RTE 2009, SSA Wayanad is proved to release adetailed UDISE report 2014-15 of Wayanad. Since educational statistics is highlydynamic, good planning always demand comperhensive database.

Developing such a complete database is not an easy task. Collecting variouspieces of information and presenting it in a presentable format is a daunting task.I express sincere thanks to the Honble State Project Director, SSA Kerala and MohammedSaheer, State Programme Officer (MIS), SSA Kerala, Deputy Director of Education,Principal DIET Wayanad, District Educational Officer, Asst. Programme Officer RMSAand Assistant Educational Officers for their active support and guidance. I take thischance to congratulate Mr. Muhammed, System Analyst and his team, Block ProgrammeOfficers, Principals/Headmasters, BRC officials and all others for releasing UDISE Report2014-15. In this perspective, MIS cell of SSA Wayanad, analysed UDISE Database developed byNUEPA and compiled relevant information on the basis of different indicators related to qualityeducation.

Nestled among the mountains of the Western Ghats, lies Wayanad, one ofthe loveliest hill stations of Kerala. This green paradise, located at a distance of 76Kms. From the seashores of Kozhikode, lies at height of 700-2100m. above sealevel, on the northeastern part of the State. The name, Wayaand, is believed tohave been derived from the word, Vayal nadu, meaning the land of paddy fields.The present district of Wayanad was carved out, from the prts of Kozhikode andKannur district of Kerala. This backward district is, perhaps one of the biggestforeign exchange earners of the state, thanks to its cash crops of pepper,cardamom, coffee, tea, spices and other condiments.

Most of the reserve forests in the state are in this district. The loamy soilgenerally show wide variation in depth and texture with a very high content oforganic matter. A large percentage of the population in this region are tribals.
