Summery Uglies is the first out of four of the series. It is about Tally Youngblood living in Ugly Ville, in the future. Everybody dreams of being pretty and going through the surgery at age 16. Once you become 16 and become pretty, you are allowed to go to Pretty Ville. Tally’s best friend Paris is 3 months older than her, he becomes pretty and while tally is without him she meets Shay. Shay is adventurist, Tally and Shay go on many adventures together. Many of Shays close friends escape to a place called Smoke. At Smoke, you don’t have to be pretty. It is illegal to go there and nobody knows where it is because they leave at night and say where it is in code. Shay wants to go to the Smoke with Tally, but Tally wants to stay and become pretty and be re-united with her friend Peris. Eventually, Shay leaves and the Specials want to know where the smoke is. They make Tally a spy and she makes the journey to the smoke. After her long journey she arrives and decides she likes it and wants to stay. When the specials sent her on the mission they gave her a heart pendant to wear on her neck. When she opened it the Specials would arrive. Once Tally realized she loved the Smoke, she threw the pendant into a fire it sent out a alarm to the specials. The specials arrived and destroyed the smoke and took its people captive in ugly ville to make them pretty.Do they escape? Does Tally become a pretty? Read the book to find out.

Tally Youngblood

Tally is a fifteen year old girl during most of the book. She is part of many adventures. She is nice, but betrays Peris, by getting into trouble. She also betrays Shay and the people at Smoke by giving away their home to the Specials.

Shay Shay gets into a lot of trouble and starts to get Tally into more trouble once they meet. Most of Shays friends left her and went to the Smoke she got scared and did not go until later, without Tally. Tally and Shay are the same age. Tally’s plan was to become pretty with Shay but Shay did not want to.

Dr. Cable Dr. Cable is head of the specials, and is a special. She is very mean and demanding. She hates Tally and the people of Smoke. Her and many specials attack Smoke and capture & kill many people living there. Dr. Cable sends Tally on the mission to Smoke as a spy.

David

David grew up in the smoke. He had never been to the Ugly Ville or Pretty Ville. He starts to like tally and that makes Shay mad. He is resourceful, for example he made leather gloves that he gave to Tally, and himself a leather jacket.

Peris

Peris is Tally’s childhood friend. They grew up together and were best friends since Peris became pretty, now they don’t see each other as much now that he is pretty and Tally is not.
