  • SME DEFINITION

Given that there have been many developments in the economy since 2005 such as price inflation, structural changes and change in business trends, a review of the definition was undertaken in 2013 and a new SME definition was endorsed at the 14th NSDC Meeting in July 2013. The definition covers all sectors,

namely services, manufacturing, agriculture, construction and mining & quarrying.

Sales turnover and number of full-time employees are the two criteria used in determining the definition with the “OR” basis as follows:

For the manufacturing sector, SMEs are defined as firms with sales turnover not exceeding RM50 million OR number of full-time employees not exceeding 200.

For the services and other sectors, SMEs are defined as firms with sales turnover not exceeding RM20 million OR number of full-time employees not exceeding 75.

    Freshwater Fish Pond

    • Temperature, pH and DO levels are measured and integrated with aerating and water supply pumps using Arduino.

    • User could receive information at pre-determined intervals on preferred communication or display gadgets as long as they have internet.

    • With this integration system, farmer need not hire worker at their site, consequently drive down operating costs and improve efficiency.

    • This project has a potential to be commercialized for the fresh water fish pond industry in Malaysia.

    Coffee Tilting Machine

    • Coffee tilting machine (CTM) is an automated transferring process of the coffee powder mixes to the packaging machine.

    • Before using CTM, the process was done manually and it is very time consuming and can effect the production itself. By using CTM, the time can be cut down gradually thus enhanced the production of the coffee packaging.

In-line auto-monitoring system for brown sugar production

    • In-line auto-monitoring system for brown sugar production is an automated system to monitor the thickness of the brown sugar while its cooking and will set of an alarm when it is fully cook.

    • The main components of this system are its sensors, control dan assembly structure. The sensors will detect the thickness and temperature of the sugar thus signaling the control box to translate the level of thickness and temperature of the brown sugar. The mechanical structure are also movable for easy use without moving any of the factory layout.
